Night Fae Brewmaster Monk Covenant Abilities
Night Fae Monk Class Ability:
妖魂踏
The Night Fae Class Ability for Monks of all specializations is
妖魂踏
, a 30 second cooldown, AoE damage skill that also heals and grants you 5% more Stagger value for 8 seconds. It also leaves a zone on the ground that grants you a chance to instantly reset Faeline Stomp's cooldown
as long as you are standing on it while fighting
. As such, the average cooldown winds up being a good bit lower than 30 seconds (10-12 seconds with the Covenant Legendary).
妖魂踏
adds an AoE damage filler skill into your rotation, which is great. Brewmaster Monk's ability to deal AoE damage is decent, but the rotation is static, and this adds a layer of fun complexity.
Unfortunately,
妖魂踏
has serious issues with consistency. Even under ideal conditions, it's not a competitive offensive choice in single target. It deals massively less damage than Kyrian in the best-case scenario, and when you are forced to move somewhat often, Night Fae is by far the worst Covenant.
Despite the listed target cap of 5,
妖魂踏
actually hits 6 targets for Brewmaster. In 6-target AoE, it's good, but not the best. Losing value whenever you are forced to move is this Covenant's main shortcoming. That happens fairly often in raid fights, and often enough in Mythic+ that this just isn't a competitive choice anywhere.
Additionally, because
妖魂踏
was untouched when Blizzard rebalanced most of the game's AoE spell caps in Patch 9.1.5, it loses value in AoE that involves more than 6 targets. In Mythic+, you may not have to move as often, but you are more likely to fight more than 6 enemies at a time.
Night Fae Brewmaster Monk -- Good or Bad?
妖魂踏
offers the worst of all possible worlds. It's not good in single target, doesn't help with burst damage, inconsistent defensively, and inconsistent offensively. So is Night Fae Monk just horrible? Worthless? Totally not worth playing?
It's still good -- at two things!
First off, it's good for AoE damage without a lot of movement. That's good for Mythic+.
Second, it's really, really tanky! That's also good for Mythic+.
妖魂踏
and the Soulbind interactions with Niya primarily offer defense, but the defensive value is great, especially when combined with Tier Set bonuses! You can get well over 250k health on a Brewmaster Monk without cooldowns active.
But Should You Actually Play Night Fae Monk?
Not really. You should mess around with it if you like trying out things that are unusual and off-meta, just to have fun. It's genuinely not a bad Covenant, but Kyrian is, without question, a better all-around choice in every situation. Necrolord is about as tanky as Night Fae, and is way more popular in Mythic+ due to providing much more consistent defensive value that doesn't require specific positioning to function. In tanking, consistency wins.
Night Fae Conduit for
妖魂踏
法夜之道
adds a good chunk of extra damage in AoE, and it is easily your second-best Conduit option available in AoE. In pure single target, its value is weaker, but that's not an ideal situation for Night Fae Monk anyways.

Night Fae Signature Ability:

is a relatively simple mobility skill. It grants a short-cooldown, short-distance teleport forward, and a modest movement speed increase on a moderate cooldown. It’s not a bad mobility skill, and getting a defensive buff out of the Signature skill isn’t totally necessary. Then again, Monks already have great mobility tools, and this doesn’t really fix a glaring problem with the class. In Sepulcher of the First Ones, this has been an extremely useful skill for teleporting over lines of pain on fights like Artificer Xy'mox and Desaugne.
Then again, for most of the other encounters, it's pretty limited in value.
It's also very pretty, and that's arguably more important.
Night Fae Exclusive Legendary for Brewmaster Monks
妖魂祥和
doubles your reset chance with
妖魂踏
, and adds an extra 8% damage and healing buff onto everything it hits. It's really good in AoE and it seriously improves the consistency of
妖魂踏
resets.
Legendary Interactions for Night Fae Brewmaster Monks
妖魂踏
doesn't directly interact with your Legendaries.

Faeline Stomp is a fairly simple filler skill that offers a mix of damage, healing, and Stagger value. As such, it fits into your single target ability priority like this:

It’s a mobility skill. You can potentially use it to teleport over dangerous raid mechanics as needed. Otherwise, it’s useful whenever you need mobility and everything else is on cooldown. Sometimes extremely good, sometimes just okay. Situational value!

counts each damaging and healing event as a separate spell cast, which makes it an extremely reliable option for nearly-guaranteed resets on
妖魂踏
. Use it at all times.

Night Fae Brewmaster Monk Gearing Differences
妖魂踏
doesn't have any kind of unusual interactions with gear. Gear exactly the same way you always do: prioritize item level, sockets, Versatility, Critical Strike, and Armor. Mastery is good, but less reliable than the other stats, and Haste is generally the weakest stat -- not worthless, just not all that great.
Night Fae Brewmaster Monk Soulbinds Explained
Night Fae have access, across all classes and specs, to the same three Soulbinds:
Niya
,
Dreamweaver
and
Korayn
. These are the NPCs who accompany you in completing the Ardenweald storyline. As you gain Renown with the Night Fae, you gain deeper access to a tree of Soulbind Traits (always-on, game-wide bonuses) and Conduits (semi-customizable bonuses to specific abilities).
This tree unlocks progressively based on completion steps (such as finishing the campaign) and your renown level with the Night Fae covenant.
Below, we have summarized the optimal route through each Soulbind Tree, and the best Conduits along the way. There is some flexibility at points, with some Soulbind Traits offering non-throughput, utility-oriented options, or some defensive Conduits being arguably better in some situations than others, and weaker in some situations than others.
Niya grants several appealing traits:
林地复兴
grants a Mastery and Maximum Health proc. The buff overlaps, but does not refresh, and using
妖魂踏
grants 4 stacks of it at once. It’s a very good bonus, worth an average of around 10% Mastery and Maximum Health (much more with the Covenant Legendary). It would be more interesting if it were a better stat like Versatility or Critical Strike, but it's still really, really good.
尼娅的工具：毒药
makes interrupting a DPS increase. It’s good when it works, but it does nothing a lot of the time, too. Not a huge deal.

forces you away from a Potency Conduit slot, but deals enough DPS in single target to compensate. It's fine.

is a simple, fairly small defensive lifeline. It's not bad, but the frequent movement speed boosts from

can actually wind up being better overall, because movement speed makes dodging mechanics easier.

adds some group healing and a nice boost of Mastery and Maximum Health.

is good enough on its own to arguably make this the strongest tree, but the traits you unlock in the bottom half really push it to another level.
Here is an ideal setup for this Soulbind Tree:
Dreamweaver provides a couple of valuable bonuses:
灵茧守护者
is a Cheat Death effect. It’s not perfect -- it drops threat for 10 seconds when it activates and cannot be canceled early. That may be okay at some points in raids, but it's almost certain to be lethal for your party members in Mythic+. This is great for non-tanks, but for tanks, it can often be actively detrimental. This trait alone should make you steer clear of this tree.

grants you a small Versatility buff that rotates between you and nearby allies. It’s very small and forces you through an Endurance Conduit, so it's not great.
繁华原野
makes Faeline Stomp grant a pretty good Haste buff. The uptime on the buff is great, but it reinforces the issues of being punished by movement, it's short, and it's Haste.
梦境初醒
adds an occasional shield. More defensive layers is always good, and this isn't bad.
梦境探索者
is a very simple damage and healing increase. It's nothing special.
灵茧守护者
makes this Soulbind a very dangerous tree for tanks, and pretty hard to justify ever using. Aside from that bonus, it's still not really a competitive option even once the full tree is unlocked.
Here is an ideal setup for this Soulbind Tree:
Picking Korayn grants access to the following notable traits:
荒猎团战术
grants, on average, about 2.5% more damage throughout a fight. This is an underestimate, since you generally start out fights with all of your offensive cooldowns, and an extra 10% damage layered out on top of that can potentially be worth more than 2.5% throughout an entire fight. It’s also a nice little boost to help lock down threat at the start of pulls. The added movement speed is not a big deal, but not bad. The extra self-healing while below 35% isn't a big deal, but everything counts.
勇面敌人
grants a constant 3% damage reduction from enemies you are tanking, which is a very good defensive gain. It’s simple. It’s great.
坚守阵地
is in the same tier as Face Your Foes, and does not affect magic damage, and requires standing still for 5 seconds,
and
requires going through a second Finesse Conduit -- but it offers a lot of physical damage reduction.
争先打击
is an excellent offensive power when running Mythic+ or doing fights with groups of periodically spawning adds. It's practically worthless in pure single target, so be sure not to run this tree in ST!
狩猎刺激
is a simple tertiary stat boost. Not bad, but nothing special as a tank.
狂野狩猎策略
is a passive throughput increase that works a bit strangely. It's not bad, but it's not great, either.
Korayn offers a lot of burst damage in AoE, but that's really about the extent of it, and compared to Niya's constant boost to stat budget, it's not really all that competitive in most circumstances:
Double Legendaries for Night Fae Brewmaster Monk
Patch 9.2 adds the option of using two legendaries at the same time, with the restriction that one of them is your Covenant legendary. This change empowers Night Fae Brewmaster Monk even more. You can learn more about it in our Legendary Guide.
