Changes to Night Fae Arcane Mages in 9.2
Second legendary access added on week 5 of the patch and
is a great quality of life legendary, however it's throughput, especially in single target, is very low. The legendary will make it so that
can be cast while moving, which is amazing, and each target hit by the spell grants a 1% haste and crit buff, up to 10% for 15-seconds. This does not tangible change the rotation.
Night Fae Arcane Mage Covenant Abilities
Night Fae Arcane Mage Class Ability:
The Night Fae are the guardians of nature; if the Emerald Dream is life in its summer, Ardenweald is its twilight. Arcane Mages who align themselves with the Night Fae gain
, a point-blank AoE spell that reduces the cooldown of all of our other Mage abilities.
Shifting Power is very, very strong for Arcane, as the majority of the spec's damage revolves around cooldowns like
. Having these abilities available more often is a huge boon in any type of content, and you should be using it any time all of your major abilities (
) are on cooldown and not active (i.e. do not use it in the burn phase).
Night Fae Arcane Mage Conduit:
We can use the
Conduit to enhance Shifting Power, which increases the cooldown recovery from the spell. This is a reasonably strong Conduit for Arcane in AoE, but it isn't worth using the Conduit against a single target unless the fight has specific cooldown timings that need the extra reduction.

Night Fae Arcane Mage Signature Ability:
Night Fae Arcane Mages can use
, an instant movement speed increase and teleport, with a built-in teleport mechanic you can use every few seconds. This is an amazing mobility tool, even though Arcane already has good mobility with
, as the spec can't save instant spell cast procs like Fire or Frost to reposition. It's less useful if we use
is the meta choice.
Night Fae-Exclusive Legendary for Arcane Mages
The Night Fae Covenant legendary is
, which makes
usable while moving and also buffs our Critical Strike and Haste during and after the channel.
I have a love-hate relationship with this legendary: on the one hand, increasing Shifting Power's mobility is excellent; interrupting the channel because of forced movement really hurts our DPS. On the other hand, it means that baseline move-and-casting is likely never going to be added.
The stat buffs are unimpressive. For starters, 10% is not actually very much or very noticeable, equalling a very small damage increase. Additionally, because we use Shifting Power at the
of our cooldowns, they also come at the wrong time: after all of our burst.
On the whole, this Legendary is not worth crafting.
Other Legendary Interactions for Night Fae Arcane Mages
Two of Arcane's strongest legendary powers,
, don't rely on cooldowns, so there's no interaction to be had. It does buff
, but this is still behind Harmony/Bombardment. The effect on
is also negligible, due to the length of

Best Night Fae Arcane Mage Soulbinds
Once Niya's Soulbind tree is fully unlocked at Renown 55, she overtakes Korayn as our strongest ally for single-target fights. A lot of Niya's power is locked behind
and you must use it, rather than another Potency Conduit.
Korayn's capstone trait,
, is very niche in raids, but much more useful in dungeons where you'll frequently be attacking enemies at different health levels (you need to attack something above 75% health to prime the effect, then something below 35% health to activate it).
is also great in dungeon content.

is a strong tool in the Arcane arsenal. You should use it whenever all of your major abilities (
) are on cooldown and not active (avoid using it in the burn phase).
You can also use Shifting Power in the opener (just one tick) to enable Dreamweaver's
Night Fae Arcane Mage Talent Builds
Choosing the Night Fae Covenant doesn't affect Arcane's talent choices at all. It does make
stronger, but it's the meta choice anyway.

Night Fae Arcane Mage Gearing Differences
Due to the lower cooldown on
, additional haste tends to be welcome for Night Fae Arcane Mages. The reduced cooldown of

quite a bit stronger than for the other covenants.

Night Fae Arcane Mage Soulbinds Explained
All Night Fae players have access to the same three Soulbinds:
. They are the NPCs you complete the zone story with, and allow you to 'attune' yourself to them to gain access to a tree of upgrades centered around your base toolkit (through Conduits) and Covenant abilities (through special, game-wide traits).
This tree progressively unlocks based on completion steps (such as finishing the campaign) and your Renown level with the Night Fae Covenant.
We've summarized the optimal traits for each Soulbind below, along with potential Conduits to use. Bear in mind that Endurance and Finesse Conduit choice will largely depend on which encounter you're progressing on, as their value changes dramatically based on the requirements they enforce.
Niya has a strong damage trait, and two more situational ones:
grants a stacking buff when we deal damage that grants maximum health and Mastery.
grants eight stacks, and has such a low cooldown that it should be active often. This is a very strong ability for Arcane, but not worth playing around.
applies a DoT to any target you interrupt, and deals a burst of damage to them if they're interrupted again in 30 seconds. A good damage boost if you can interrupt on cooldown, but very minor otherwise.
has a chance to damage and snare enemies. A very reliable source of damage, which requires missing the second Potency slot; this is worth doing in all situations since 9.1, as Niya can pick up another Potency slot at Renown 43.
is a nice passive healing effect that your raid will appreciate, with the addition of a Mastery and health buff to you.
An example tree to follow is as follows:
Dreamweaver is an interesting Soulbind: not only for his abilities, but for having an earlier second Potency slot than any other in the game:
is Dreamweaver's opening ability; a cheat death effect on a 10-minute cooldown. Far more useful than other on-death Soulbind traits like
, it returns you to life at maximum efficiency - though takes 10 seconds to activate, during which you're stunned. Any Mythic raider can tell you how useful a cheat death is:
is one of Fire's strongest progression tools.
is a great trait - again, Versatility is incredibly good for progression raiding - but means missing a Potency slot. Social Butterfly is strong enough to justify this in dungeon content, but not if you're only fighting one enemy.
increases Haste by 12% every time we use
, which is really powerful considering the ability's short cooldown.
is effectively a passive 3% damage increase. Although it has a very short duration, it stacks up quickly.
An example tree can be seen below, but it's not set in stone - just make sure to pick up the Potency slots, or
Korayn has an excellent opening trait - strong enough to justify using her over either other Soulbind by itself at early-mid Renown levels, even though most of her other abilities focus on utility.
is a flat 10% damage buff to targets above 75% health, which generally accounts for the majority of most bosses' first phase. I don't need to tell you how powerful 10% more damage in your burst phase is.
grants a critical strike buff if you hit an enemy before they can hit you, but means skipping a second Potency slot - it's not strong enough to justify that in normal raiding, but is excellent in Mythic+.
is pretty niche in raids: you need to attack a target above 75% health, then a target below 35% health within 1 minute. That doesn't occur too often in raid fights, but is almost constant in dungeons - especially on
