Survival Hunter Rotation in
The rotation for Survival Hunter focuses on a streamlined resource management loop. In simplest terms, you'll use as many as possible

in any given fight to generate enough

to buff most, if not all, of your other abilities. The important thing to keep in mind is that you don't want to use

too aggressively, as that means you'll waste the Focus it generates and waste Tip of the Spear stacks.
Resource Management:
By far, the most important core to learn as a Survival Hunter is your resource management. Your
杀戮命令
ability is limited by charges and cooldown, and Kill Command is responsible for generating both your resources: Focus and
利矛之刃
. The best way to improve your play is to use Kill Command as much as possible in any given encounter, without over-capping on Focus or Tip of the Spear stacks. In practice, with the optimal talent build, this means you are using two abilities between each use of Kill Command.
Resource Spending:
Tying into the above point, it's very important you're spending your resources in a controlled way, while also maximizing the uses of your
猛禽一击
without idling too much. Due to our Apex node, more Raptor Strike means more
猛禽横扫
, which means you're missing tons of free damage if you're either spending too much (or too little!) Focus.
Cooldown Management:
Two of your strongest abilities,

and

are limited by cooldowns. It's important you're keeping these cooldowns in mind, as if you miss a use this can have a cascading effect further down the line and greatly lower your damage over any given encounter, especially in AoE.

As a Survival Hunter, your entire gameplay loop and priority system is fueled by

Best Survival Hunter Single Target Rotation
Survival in Single Target plays around a priority list, juggling both ability cooldowns and resources based on an order of power. This means with each GCD we go top to bottom on a list, and press the button with the current highest value.

Best Survival Hunter AoE Rotation
Our AoE rotation is very similar to our single-target gameplay loop. However, you'll have much more frequent uses of

due to two talents recommended in most builds:

. This means it's extra important to pay attention to your ability's cooldown to not waste uses. Something else to consider is your position, as both Wildfire Bomb and Boomstick deal damage in cone shapes, so you need to make sure you are standing in a way to hit as many enemies as possible.

There is very little mechanical RNG in the Pack Leader opener, or its entire rotation for that matter. You could technically end up doing the exact same thing every single pull, global to global.

Pre-Combat Check
Before any combat happens, it is important for Survival Hunters to make sure the following are done. This applies to raids, dungeons, delves, or even open-world content.
Survival Hunter Major Cooldowns
Survival has access to only a handful of cooldowns in the talent trees; some of them can only be picked up very deep into the tree, meaning you won't often pair them together.
Takedown

Is an extremely short-duration damage cooldown which should always be buffed with
利矛之刃
. In addition to its high upfront damage, it buffs you and your pets' damage by 20%. It is worth noting that this 20% buff does not affect any damage sources outside of our class-specific damaging abilities, so no trinkets or non-class procs can be buffed this way.
Some talents affect

into an impressively powerful AoE attack. This doesn't inherently change the way your cooldown works, but it may affect the way you'd want to time your cooldown. For instance, without

, you may want to use

before the adds even spawn in, so you don't have to spend the global cooldown during the add's lifespan.
双生利牙
allows
狩魂一击
to generate 3 stacks of
利矛之刃
, meaning less of your extremely short cooldown window is spent pressing

, allowing you to press the buttons that deal more meaningful damage more often.
This talent somewhat conflicts with
Pack Leader
's
奔踏!
talent, which already incentivizes you to follow up your
狩魂一击
with a
杀戮命令
to trigger the stampede and beast as soon as possible.
However, the talents that fundamentally modify
侧翼夹击
the most are all part of hero-talent specific interactions.
For

, as mentioned before, is simply modified by

to trigger

and any of the next

This doesn't affect gameplay a whole lot beyond that, but it is worth noting that

aims in a direction based on your position relative to your target, which is useful to know when you're trying to optimise the fairly narrow AoE zone.

to a much bigger degree, and are modified by

, using the same keybind, and is a powerful follow-up attack.

node that directly impacts the way you use

, delaying its use until you can benefit from the 10 seconds of

, allowing you to chuck more dramatically stronger bombs.

can be especially helpful for this in the event you continue to proc a bunch, reducing the odds for you to run out of bombs to spend your

procs with.
Flamefang Pitch
燎焰沥青
deals a chunk of fire damage at a ground-targeted area, and any mobs caught in the blast take some extra fire damage over the next 8 seconds. Essentially, this is a supercharged (but really not
that
supercharged) version of
野火炸弹
. As a bonus, it covers the ground in fire, making it much more difficult to see what is going on in melee.
in its base form, it is incredibly simplistic to use; simply use it during
狩魂一击
, as it will naturally line up provided that you spent 2 points into
野蛮
.

can be modified by two talents:

, each changing the way you want to use

slightly.

talented, you gain an extra charge of

, as well as providing 10 seconds of cooldown reduction to
野火炸弹
. You should ideally avoid using
燎焰沥青
if you can't actually carry any more
野火炸弹
charges.
This talent can indirectly impact the power of
致命校准
, utilising the extra
野火炸弹
charges to further reduce the cooldown of
爆裂火铳
, which in turn can have large impacts on burst AoE output, as well as allowing you to achieve more specific
爆裂火铳
cooldown timings.
野火灌注
adds a small amount of fire damage to each auto attack for the next 10 seconds. This talent is dramatically stronger when dual-wielding, especially when using daggers.
Daggers can attack up to 4 times faster than a 2-handed weapon; despite this looking powerful on paper, it is a weak interaction in practice. That said,
if
dual wielding it adds a decent amount of single-target power to a set of talents that is otherwise incredibly weak for single-target purposes.
With that said, currently, even with daggers it is currently not worth talenting deep into
燎焰沥青
, or even at all.
The duration of
野火灌注
does not stack with itself, so ideally the second charge of
燎焰沥青
is held if you're also talented into
榴弹杂耍
, unless you are prioritizing burst AoE output.
Boomstick
爆裂火铳
Is a very high-damaging frontal cone channel that should always be used with
利矛之刃
. It has a fairly long range that can be utilised to hit enemies that are ordinarily too spread out to properly hit while in melee range. A quick
逃脱
gets you to an ideal distance for something like this, but it isn't strictly necessary in most cases.
爆裂火铳
is functionally a 45-second cooldown for single target purposes, or it can have cooldowns as low as 15 seconds while AoEing thanks to
致命校准
, a staple talent pick for AoE builds.
野火弹药
can be paired with this to create a feedback loop, causing a drastically more fast paced AoE rotation.
Something to consider is that although boomstick deals an incredible amount of damage for a single button, it spends at least 2 globals effectively to channel. This makes its single target potency a lot weaker than it looks at a glance, Although it is still worth using, simply never using it at all only results in a ~2.5% dps loss, even when heavily invested into boomstick talents.
Due to the layout of the talent tree we cannot easily ignore these talents, but it may give you some context to how "unimportant" boomstick actually is for Single Target output, meaning if there is ever an opporunity to hold its use to utilise it for AoE, you should consider it.
Survival Hunter Advanced Tips
In addition to
羁绊共狩
optimization, Survival Hunter has two other main points of optimization to truly separate yourself from a novice to more advanced Survival player.
Strike as One
羁绊共狩
, despite being a passive talent, is one of your most important sources of damage. It's very important you're proccing this as much as possible, which means you're playing around your Focus management and
杀戮命令
charges.
Positioning
As a Survival Hunter, literally all of your AoE/Cleave depends on your positioning.
野火炸弹
and
爆裂火铳
deal their damage in a cone (from the target and from you respectively) so you need to be aware of your position and place yourself in an angle to hit as many targets as possible with the abilities conal shape.
猛禽横扫
and
奔踏!
also rely on your positioning as well, so it's a good idea to keep track of where you are in relation to the target(s).
Pet Utility
To make sure you're meeting you and your groups needs at all times, we strongly recommend you keep a Tenacity, Ferocity, and Cunning pet in your active pet slots at all times. This means you can flex into more self-sustain and Bloodlust with Ferocity, more pure damage reduction through Tenacity, or external CC cleansing with Cunning.

s, not even counting any of the enhancing talents. Furthermore,

, making the ability a waste of focus unless you find yourself outside of melee range without

"Any beasts available" effectively means having any of the "buffs" active, and thus summoning them by using

.
This is barely worth using at 5 or more targets, and not worth using at any less. Consider holding it and using it as a means to exit melee range for a GCD if you feel like you might need to do something, such as avoid a ground slam.
Pet Specialization
You can change your pet's specialization at any stable master, and it is generally convenient to have at least 1 pet of every specialization with you at all times, each providing unique effects that affect both your pet and yourself.
Tenacity
Tenacity pets are great for providing passive damage mitigation and effective health, which is extremely valuable in content where you frequently get hit for large amounts of damage, such as high-end Mythic+.

Ferocity
Ferocity pets are great for constant passive healing, and can usually offset more damage than a Tenacity could, but it often doesn't help you live an Effective Health damage intake "check" which can occur frequently in high m+.

Cunning

Could you expand on the opening sequences? I find the rotation quite organic to follow once you get rolling with the encounter, but since most of the priorities are based on our current focus and charges available, I struggle a bit to settle on the optimal opener sequence.

So I'm just curious, in the little explanation for the opener in 11.0 you state
Our opener is relatively predictable, with the exception of potential Deathblow and Grenade Juggler (if talented) procs to react to. Outside of this, the goal of our opener is to get rid of of our Wildfire Bomb charges and get Explosive Shot on cooldown in an efficient manner before using Coordinated Assault.
The actual opener listed does not mention Explosive Shot getting used at all, and it's shown pretty low on our single target priority list.
I know last season we did want to use Explosive Shot before Coordinated Assault - is the explanation out of date and it isn't that important to use it in the opener anymore? Or is Explosive Shot just missing from the opener for some reason?
