Overview
Arathi Basin is a 15v15 battleground with a "resource-based" objective. However, in a Rated Battleground setting, it becomes a 10v10 match and the state of the map remains unchanged. On this page, we go into depth about how to play the map, important locations, map-specific terms and shorthand, common Rated Battleground strategies, and some helpful tips to help players navigate the map more easily.
Battleground Terminology for Arathi Basin
ST - Stables (northwest base)
LM - Lumber Mill (southwest base)
GM - Gold Mines (northeast base)
BS - Blacksmith (middle base)
Farm (southeast base)

Arathi Basin Win Conditions
The first team to 1500 resources wins. Players assault bases by right clicking on the white flag at the base and then defending them for one minute before it turns over in their favor and starts adding resources towards their score. It takes six seconds (without interruption) to assault. It is impossible to assault a base while being hit. Bases that are captured will give resources over time. The more bases in a team's possession, the faster the resources accumulate. Typically holding three bases for the majority of the match will ensure a victory.
Best Arathi Basin RBG Strategies
At the beginning of the match, teams usually send one player to sit their starter base (Stables for Alliance and Farm for Horde) and then the strategy varies based on the group.
Teams usually send 1-2 players down to Gold Mines (typically a Rogue and Balance Druid). The strategy at Gold Mines depends on whether the enemy team sends one player, two players, or none at all. If the enemy team sends one, the team usually commits to the 2v1 for the base. If the enemy team sends two, some teams attempt the 2v2, some stay alive as long as possible to spin, and some even leave the Rogue to CC them as long as possible in stealth before opening while the Druid heads straight to the opposite base (Stables or Farm).
If players are confident in an individual, sometimes they only send one person to Gold Mines to win the 1v1 at the base.
If the enemy teams send no one to Gold Mines (this happens sometimes) and the team sent more than one player to the base, this needs to be noticied immediately so the other player can reinforce Blacksmith or Lumber Mill instead.
Teams usually send 2 players to Blacksmith to spin the base or attempt to CC cap on the enemy team. Some teams have also been seen to their tank (if they have one) to Blacksmith to spin and stay alive as long as possible with a healer. Communication at Blacksmith is crucial because if the enemy's team's goal is to CC cap in a 2v2 situation, players cannot afford to overlap CDs or their
不羁角斗士的勋章
.
Most teams usually have their main team fight at Lumber Mill, especially if they send classes that have knocks such as Hunters with
爆炸陷阱
, Priests that can
精神控制
and/or
闪光力场
, Elemental Shamans with
雷霆风暴
, and more. However, sometimes if Blacksmith looks like it is shifting in favor of a team, they may have people jump off of Lumber Mill (i.e. Demon Hunter or Druid that can avoid fall damage) to reinforce it and take it.
It should be noted that if a team is playing at a lower MMR, this "4-base" strategy may not always work because certain squads may not be as strong and the team will be spread more thinly. If this is the case, consider giving up a base (if necessary, preferably Gold Mines because it is typically more difficult to defend) and send DPS elsewhere. This can include sending three players to Blacksmith instead of 2 or having a bigger team fight at Lumber Mill. Nevertheless, this adaptation should be kept in mind because the other team may have this mentality and also decide to give up Gold Mines. Players can catch this early if they are clicking on their BattlegroundEnemies addon.
In higher MMR games or groups that may be more confident, sometimes a class that can stealth will capture the starting base (Stables or Farm) but then stealth towards Gold Mines to help win the base. Some teams even do this with a non-stealth class and the enemy player will mount up and leave the base after capturing it. If this happens, this needs to be called out immediately because sometimes a player from Lumber Mill may be able to peel out fast enough to get the base before it even turns over in the enemy's favor.
As the match continues, depending on how team fight is going, sometimes teams may start to attempt a ninja approach. This may include a Rogue ghosting the base to try to CC capture the other one or sending two classes that can stealth (usually a Rogue and Balance Druid) to CC the enemy sitting the base. Thus, it is important to constantly keep track of classes in stealth, even in the middle of the match. If the team decides to go for a ninja attempt, it is the entire team's responsibility to keep track of all of the enemy players' locations. In addition, players in the team fight need to stop or at least slow down enemies that try to peel out once their base is being hit. If an enemy player successfully peels out, they can either defend their base, or if a base was ghosted, they can run at the base and force players to peel out of the team fight. Teams with more experience will expect the other team to go for a ninja attempt as a last resort, especially if they are not winning the team fight and falling behind in points. However, if the ninja attempt is successful, the team needs to immediately reinforce the base and be cautious of a potential counter-hit, especially if one of the bases is extremely far from the one that was just taken.
If a base is being hit, a mobile DPS is usually the first person that should peel out of the team fight. However, depending on the state of the team fight, sometimes a healer may be the one to leave. For example, if almost all of the enemies in a team fight are dead, the healer can peel out to help reinforce a base against one person because the remaining DPS can clean up the remaining enemies. Once the team controls three bases, some players (typically a healer and/or DPS) should be floating between all three points and be prepared to rotate to whichever one needs help. This is especially important if the enemy team has multiple classes that can stealth because a team should never fully commit to a team fight if multiple enemies are missing.
Best Arathi Basin Tips
Each base has alternating utility buffs (i.e. berserker, leaf, speed).
The respawn timer of all the buffs located at each base is 1 minute and 30 seconds.
At Lumber Mill and Blacksmith, the healers should utilize the buildings for line of sight purposes to prevent damage or CCs from going off if their DPS cannot interrupt them.
Players can easily be knocked off at Lumber Mill and Blacksmith if they stand too close to the edge. Sometimes if a team has a Death Knight and a Discipline or Holy Priest on their team, they may have the Death Knight
死亡之握
an enemy towards the ledge and have the Priest cast
闪光力场
on them to knock the player off.
