I agree that's possible.

I think the biggest reason is that there are very few humanoid pets and it seems a waste of resources for them to get their own classification, passives, abilities etc.

They never showed them getting hacked up in the movie. They didn't show anything gory happening to the kids. If they did it would of had a much higher rating.

I like adventure and humor. But kids mutilating one another is neither adventurous or humorous.

This wouldn't happen for the same reason there are no kids in the GTA games.

Um...no; Blizzard has never shown any child violence in WoW, and they aren't about to start.

Come on, where's your sense of adventure and humor?
There is no sense of humor or adventure in the imagery you are presenting.
