Questing imho, there's more variation thus you don't get tired of it.

Rapidly killing quest monsters at an alarming pace.

Instances/BGs + Questing is the fastest, followed by just questing, straight mob grinding is by far the slowest means of leveling. Why? because the mobs youre grinding more than likely have a quest tied in with them and you would be missing more exp off the quest turn in alone than you would get from just the mobs

Also, if the random mobs you're targeting are high enough to give you XP, you probably won't be able to grind through them at a high pace.
My understanding is that this was not true in vanilla, where you could grind your way all the way to 60 with starter-zone mobs. Even there, though, there were diminishing returns.

since your 74 que as a healer and then just quest.. and quest and quest. Alot of quests in northrend are Kill x mobs for me or do something for me. You will get a bit of XP this way. Then go when the que pops and do a dungeon just make sure you have the quests for it. Do them. I went from 70 to 80 in 6 days of play on my warrior doing this.

However you want to.
Whatever. Free will is for pansies. Real men do what everyone else recommends.
Personally, I recommend you get the full Black Mageweave set for the sexy bonus, and then fist bump as many mobs to death as you can for the extra bro-experience.
... or just do quests and queue for the LFD like everyone else does.

From my experience, it depends on various factors. If you have the quests for a given dungeon, and it comes up as your random (especially first random of the day) it is by far the best xp per hour. But if you have already done the quests for the dungeons in your level range, you might be better off questing.
Of course, certain areas and level ranges are better for questing than others, and your class/spec make a difference. For instance, a druid with flight form does great in Outlands where there are so many collection quests that you can fly down, get the item, and fly out with no work at all.
Then there are the BG's. If you are in the 50-70 range and it is AV weekend, you can level like crazy (assuming your faction wins regularly). Getting 3 Vann kills can get you a level in that range in less than a couple of hours.
There is no real answer to your question without going into detail based on class/spec/level range and other factors. I say just do what I do: queue up for dungeons or BGs based on what you are in the mood for, and quest while waiting.

If you can stand the repetition and you're a tank/healer, just chain run dungeons and do quests (the easy kill quests, not the ones that send you all over Azeroth unless it's to unlock factions) when you're sick of running the same dungeon over and over again.

Best way to level =/= fastest way to level.
If you're looking to level fast, download
this addon
, it's a step by step walkthrough of level 1-80 for any race and class. It combines grinding mobs with questing. Very effective.
If you want the "best way to level," it's the way you get most enjoyment out of.
I dont see how anyone gets any enjoyment out of some stupid addon leveling guide telling them where to go and what to do, most people have more fun by doing and discovering things on their own. Wowhead itself can be used as the only leveling tool you would need, and of course the built in quest helper is a very nice tool, you still get to choose where you want to go and what you want to do, not like those guides that make you go where they tell you to.
