Currently, when you capture a pet that appears in more than one zone, it checks off the list for every zone. So you don't have to capture, say 20 different
. Just one and it counts for every zone it appears in.
I think every hunter should be forced to obtain this title.
It will be at least 6 months after MoP release before you see anyone sporting this title. In Kalimdor, there are two seasonally dependent battle pets: the Snowy Owl in Winterspring and the Qiraji Guardian in Silithis. Because Pandaria launched just after the end of Warcraft summer, we have to wait for it to cycle around again before the Qiraji Guardians -- a summer-only pet -- are available.
In the meantime, don't forget to get a Snowy Owl while it's winter.
Pffft, why would you have this, when u can go to a real one! :D
This title/achievement is currently unobtainable because of the
that only appears during the summer months. It will be available 'supposedly' starting March 20th, actual specific dates cannot be specifically determined, we are just guessing that it follows the same season structure as the seasonal fish.
Make sure to catch the
before then, as it is only available during winter months which start on 'supposedly' September 23rd. There is no overlap between the two, wow only has 2 seasons.
I wrote a couple of macros to help with this achievement. The first one checks for any wild pets that you already have 3 of, so I just click it every now and then to make sure I'll be able to actually catch the blighters when I find them./run local C=C_PetJournal C.ClearSearchFilter()local _,n,p,t=C.GetNumPets(false)for i=1,n do local _,_,o,_,_,_,_,s,_,_,_,_,_,w=C.GetPetInfoByIndex(i)if o and w then if s==p then if t then print(s) t=nil else t=1 end else p=s t=nil end end end
The second checks which pets can be obtained in the zone you're currently in. It'll also show any pets which can be obtained in the zone other than from pet battles (ie. not for this achievement) but they will be shown in grey text. It uses the pet journal to check, so beware of the few cases where the pet journal is wrong./run local C=C_PetJournal C.ClearSearchFilter()local n=C.GetNumPets(false)for i=1,n do local _,_,o,_,_,_,_,s,_,_,_,z,_,w=C.GetPetInfoByIndex(i)if z and not o then if strmatch(z,GetRealZoneText())then print((w and""or"\124cff808080")..s)end end end
Both macros will clear the search filter on the pet journal, but it won't clear the other filters; so you'll have to make sure you aren't filtering by family, source or collected/not collected in the pet journal, otherwise the macros won't be able to check all your pets!
Brionl touched on this but it does bear repeating: it is not required to catch a particular quality of a species nor is it necessary that you keep said species in your collection. Just having caught it in a fight is enough for it to count. Personally I'm an admitted pet snob and won't bother keeping a run-of-the-mill pet that isn't rare quality or at least unique in some way. And yes I have already gotten my Quality and Quantity achievement - and I'm still not even close to getting any of the Safari ones at the time of this post.
Note these pets that you might have to wait for, either because of the time, the weather or the season isn't right:
- When it rains on Jaguero Isle. (Note: Jaguero Isle and Cape of Stranglethorn do not share weather. You have to go to the isle to see.)
- Capturable when it snows in The Storm Peaks.
- When there's a sandstorm in Tanaris.
- Appears at night right after 00:00 in a cellar outside of Karazhan.
- Spawns at night. Around 7pm(?).
- Found at night close to the Widow spiders in Duskwood.*
- Only surfaced during Warcraft summer.
- Only surfaced during Warcraft winter.
*I actually just came across a Widow Spiderling right now (14:00 server time) so I'm confused. It's listed as a "Night" pet, but 2pm is definitely not night. Anyone have an idea?
Also known as "Gotta catch'em all!"
As has been posted on the Battle.Net forums a lot; this achievement is a joke until one of two things happens.
1) They remove the Minfernal from the Kalimdor Safari achivement
2) They remove Cross Realm Zones.
Between guildies and I about 600 hours has been spent trying to get a Minfernal, and no one has even seen one. You go to the area and there are generally 8-12 people all waiting for a Minfernal to spawn, and from what we can tell the rate would be less than one every 24 hours.
This isn't a title you can work for, it may as well be "Roll 100 three times in a row when greeding on loot." - the chance is just too low, no matter how much work you do.
A small hiccup with this achievement is if you tamed a Crested Owl before 5.1 you will need to re-tame another. The Crested Owl somehow was removed from Kalimdor Safari log with the patch. You do not have to delete your current owl unless you have 3 and need to make room for another capture.
Summer started June 21st for the Qiraji Guardling and was hot-fixed for spawn rate on June 24th.
The winter (Snowy Owl) and summer (Qiraji Guardling) pets are set with real calendar seasons as is the pet store pet Blossoming Ancients seasonal foliage.
