Apparently hunters and locks can solo it (at least how the mob works currently in the beta), as it doesn't do it's debuff to pets.

After the patch 5.0.4, you can find him near the cave in Darkmoon Island ( 78, 80).

He had 174.5 mill Health.

I also found him outside and in front of the cave, stepping inside the water which makes him hard to get noticed right away.

Just killed it on Ravencrest-EU, it indeed did drop 暗月兔子
Used about an hour killing it with a whole raid, got resetted 3 times before we first got to kill it though, because some retard ran away once he got aggro...
So on the last attempt it took an hour getting it from 174M down to 0hp
I sadly did not win the 暗月兔子 though atleast i got the pimp 那兔子太恐怖啦！

The rabbit is located at the "abandoned" cave on the DMF map. if you look good enough, you will probably find it

We just killed this ferocious critter with a 40 man raid group on Azuremyst-EU (2-9-2012, first day of the Darkmoon Faire)
It can be found in a cave on the beach, southeast on the Darkmoon Faire grounds. It's a neutral NPC but will start it's killing spree once you tag it.

174 million HP, it will drop 1 暗月兔子, so good luck rolling for it!

How to kill it:
1. Get a lot of people.
2. Stand together in the back of the cave. Do not run off since this will reset the 暗月兔子 (level 93).
3. He will leap to random raid members using 巨大，锋利的牙齿！, which will make you flee, and probably kill you.
4. Release, run back, continue, conquer the beast.

Everybody in the raid will receive 那兔子太恐怖啦！. Only 1 lucky person will get 暗月兔子
If he is not in his cave, he is killed already and you need to wait for respawn, which might take several days, but it should spawn more than once per faire.

There is an item called Indalamar's New Holy Hand Grenade in the database which should relate to this monster, but we have not found such an item ingame, nor needed it.

It IS possible to kill the rabbit with enough people. We had a raid of 40 people and some outsiders helping with the kill.

He seems to switch the target (thus not killing the player getting focused by it!) but I'm not sure what triggers the target change. It could be damage.

One thing that helps a lot is having healers out of the raid group resurrecting people since they're out of combat.

The only downside to this is them not getting the achievement and not getting to roll on the pet.

Just downed on Neptulon EU with a 40m raid. Just tank and spank. Or rather tank, die, corpserun, spank. Took a while since it's considered a lvl 90 boss, so your hit and expertise ratings were quite off. Dropped one epic rabbit pet, which was BoE.

The most important thing to keep in mind is to always stay stacked up on one single spot on the beach, because he will reset pretty easily, and when he does the attack where he picks someone up and kills him he will always run away a bit. So make sure to put out a raid marker and never stray from it and you will be fine.

Just killed this fluffy little bugger with a 40 man raid and some extra people in about 40 minutes on Frostmane. We had one reset, because someone ran to far with the rabbit chasing him.
What worked best for us was to stand inside the cave with the entire raid group, all the way in the back, since the rabbit jumps target pretty fast. This way, when you get feared, you'll only run as far as the entrance to the cave, thus having the rabbit in range for the rest of the raid. We tried him on the beach as well, but that was a disaster, because of people getting feared in all directions, with the rabbit following them and thus having to run across the beach endlessly. If you die, run back to your corpse, since it's only a short run and everyone needs their mana for the fight, not for ressing. It's also convenient if you have an engineer who can make Jeeves, so people who's gear is yellow or red can repair on site, in stead of having to run to a Darkmoon Faire repair guy.

This cute looking critter is a real pain in the ass to kill, so beware!

Edit: why is this getting downrated, it's a useful comment and strategy? If you downrate, please tell me why, so I can learn something from it? I'm new here, and this is really demotivating people to post comments...

Just killed it for the first time on my realm with a 40-man raid, took about 30-45 minutes. The boss reset twice. Here are some tips:
1: Make sure everyone is stacked up, and tell the melee NOT to follow the boss.
2: If he enters too far into the water, he evades and resets. To avoid this, have a tank taunt him every time he is near the water.
3: The rabbit fears its targets and attacks them, for that reason, as mentioned previously, it's best to stack in the cave.
4: People will die. Often. They need to release and run.

As long as you don't let the bunny go swimming and people run back, you should be fine. Stay stacked and kill him. He is a level 93 boss, meaning if you are still 85, your entire group will miss their attacks, a lot.
I wish I could give some input regarding his spawn timer, but for the time being, I have no clue.
Drops the Darkmoon Rabbit epic quality pet, which can be traded and sold on the Auction House.

Killed it today on Sha'tar-EU with a 40 man raid. Took about 20 minutes, could have done it earlier but we had some alliance attack us constantly so even more people die. Also, when releasing and corpse running some people got resurrection sickness, seemed pretty random and unexpected. Most likely a bug. The pet dropped, only one of it obviously so good luck everyone with the rolls against the 40 man raid. The pet is boe and can be sold at the auction house however our winner decided to keep it.

The whole fight with alliance over the boss is a very good practice for the world boss fights coming in Mists of Pandaria.

Addition from the healers pov - we managed to keep the tank alive all the time, the only tank death was caused by the pvp. Also, when the bunny jumps on random people and starts biting them, their healing is reduced by 100%, yes, but you can still bop that person, use pain suppression or hand of sacrifice, greatly reducing the death count.
When corpse running, you get out of combat after ressing so it is a good idea to drink up if you are a mana user or to mount up and repair if needed.

Just killed him for the first time on Cenarion Circle-US.

We pulled with 40 people, with five tanks, everyone inside of the cave on Darkmoon Faire where he is spawned. We killed him with no bug outs or evades! Perfectly executed kill.

Make sure everyone is inside of the cave and let him run in and out with people in his jaws. Taunt back if he gets too far when not doing his fear move.

Note: He will bug you out if you use an invulnerability during his "carry out" move. I was stuck perma-feared underwater until I died.

Bring a 40 man raid with you, make sure you have
3 Tanks
5 Healers
Rest DPS

Keep him in the cave if all possible, this will prevent him from evade bugging out and also when he does HUGE, SHARP TEETH he causes the member to run in panic and then die.

If you are fighting him on a PvE server and you have the other faction show up and flag to wipe you, remember to single target! No AoE!

As a Tank I found it best to rotate my cool downs, he can hit for 60K when one tank gets low on HP you switch to the other. If your tank dies you will have 2 back up tanks.

Every one who does die should run back to their bodies as it is about an 11 second run, the whole fight takes about 15-20 minutes and is very hard at current level.

When he is at about 9% health make sure all raid members are close by to receiveThat Rabbit's Dynamite! if they are at the grave yard they might be to far away to get credit for it.

Just downed this guy. As a hunter. he WILL KILL your pet.... ALOT. Expect to Rez pets alteast 10-20 times. I personally died 10 x on 2 attempts. Repair bill was about 138 g at Exhalted.

Wasn't terribly hard just alot of running back and rez-ing. You Do need a 40 man group for this. We tried it w/ 33 people and failed because we had to many people on rez cd.

Guy who won the roll put the pet in AH for 350k gold. lols.

40 Alliance, 45 minute fight. Try to stay in the back of the cave and run back if you are killed. Hunters pets will get killed alot, plenty of time to rez to get them back into the fight. Bunny does have a fear so don't yell at people that get feared outside the cave. Good luck and enjoy this great salute to Monty Python!

Nevermind, I found it on YouTube. The title references the moment after the group charges enmass to kill the Killer Rabbit, only to lose two more knights and retreating. After asertaining their losses to be a total of three knights, King Arthur declares, "Well, we'd better not risk another frontal assault; that rabbit's dynamite!"

On respawn rate:
Currently, the rabbit is for sale on the AH on quite a few servers, visible courtesy of the Undermine Journal.

However, there are no servers, US or European, where 2 rabbits are available, not with 2 on the same faction or 1 available on each side of the server. This isn't conclusive, but makes it significantly more likely that we've only had 1 spawn of the rabbit per server.

Feel free to watch that link and note if more than 1 becomes available on a server, should be a quick way to confirm that he does respawn more than once per Darkmoon Fair.

Edit 1, 9/4, 6 AM PST: There are now several (4 alliance, 3 horde) EU servers with 2 rabbits listed on the AH. There are still zero US servers with 2 rabbits listed. Seems like the EU has had a 2nd rabbit spawn, but US servers still haven't.

Edit 2, 9/4, 10 PM PST: Currently 1 US server (Goldrinn) with 2 rabbits listed, both alli side. Pretty cheap too (50k each) so it seems unlikely that someone transferred a rabbit to this server, just to sell it for less than it's selling for on any other server. I'm going to go ahead and call this one a likely respawn, so we can get back to camping!

Final Edit, 9/6, 11 AM PST: Currently several US servers have 2 rabbits listed, which looks like confirmation that respawns exist. I'm leaving this comment up so people can see the link; Undermine Journal ftw. And good luck to everyone hunting wabbits!

We have gotte a reply from a GM saying it does indeed spawn more then once per faire and there may be some hidden conditions for the spawn. What he meant is unclear so please help out if you have a clue, we have been running around the map living and dead to explore for a clue but nothing, last kill on my server has been since 28hours+

I wouldn't trust a GM on a matter like this, neither would I trust a player to restate what a GM said, but that's about as close to a blue post as we have right now.

I can now confirm that the Darkmoon Rabbit Does respawn more than one time during Darkmoon Faire, it was about 48 hours ago it was first killed on EU-Lighnings Blade and now it's up again!

Looks like a 48 hour-ish respawn timer. First Cenarius kill was somewhere between 3 am and 10am Sunday September 2nd and he respawned 3am Tuesday September 4th. Killed at 4:15 ish, hard to gather 35 to 40 people at 3am on a Tuesday :D

Also npcscan manually adding the npcid 58336 does trigger when he spawns.

Rolling restarts will despawn the Darkmoon Rabbit. Just confirmed when we failed to get enough players to kill it then proceeded to reform group post-restart only to find it was gone.

Edit: This means it's likely to affect the spawn timer as well.

took this lil guy out in a 40 man group. it indeed dropped a single darkmoon rabbit pet.

this was two days ago. it has yet to spawn again. the pet is still sitting in the auction house on my server. i have heard that this boss can respawn as quickly as 5 hours and others reporting it taking 20+ hours. is it possible the spawn of this boss has anything to do with the pet being learned (to prevent multiples in AH, or someone hoarding multiples of the pet)?

if so, the chances of getting to do this again before the faire ends are slim-nil considering the owner is currently asking 300k (dropped from original asking price of 675k)

any input about this creature's spawn time would be awesome. it was a fun fight, and i would like to get another group together so some of my other guildies have a chance at the achievement at least.

To everyone reading up about respawn rates for the Rabbit I have a tibbit of information.

First spawn of the rabbit was sunday afternoon 3-5 pm server time on Doomhammer.
Second spawn was Tuesday morning at 3-5 am server time on doomhammer.

These are the current known first 2 spawns of the rabbit. So we can all assume it spawns more than once per faire now. We can also assume that it might have a spawn time of 36 hours or so. But the 3rd spawn on doomhammer will tell us about that fact.

Killed at 9pm server time on Wildhammer-EU took 20mins nearly, we had 2 tanks 10 healers 28 dps and we all stacked at the back of the cave for better aoe healing if he did go running out of the cave we waited for him to come back, as we started to get closer to him dying we told anyone that died to stay in there body in case they missed there achievements or the roll for the pet he drops,i can't confirm the respawn exactly but i heard 32 hours alot on different servers so i will camp him out and put up here if that is the time, and i will try to upload a screenshot of our first attempt.

Edit: Spawn time is between 32 hours and 38 hours after i camped him since my group killed him then my group did killed him a second time

Just killed him in Khaz' Goroth around 20 mins ago at 1.30am AEST (8.30am PDT) not too sure on the exact spawn timer ive heard from afew that it was 18hrs roughly for this spawn and b4 that 27hrs.

Heres how the fight goes down at 85-90.

There are two raid groups, usually one Horde and one Alliance, waiting on people to get there and/or collect more bodies to throw at the boss. Since this part of the zone is now cross-realm available (we had players from Mal-Ganis Vashj and Windrunner with myself being Kilrogg), expect someone from a pvp server to come in flagged. Inevitably, the two raids will then start to attack the flagged members of the other to get them to leave, or just plain world pvp, who knows. Once the world pvp has settled down (IF it settles down I should say), the two raids will then compete for the tag by gaining a place on the level 93 Boss's threat table then dragging him out into the water/beach while the boss jumps from player to player, hitting for about 75k on level 85 ilvl 410 mail and crushing blows into the 150k range, to evade bug him. This will go on for hours on end until the boss permanently evades or one side gives up.

The latter is not likely because of the presence of cross server players consistently coming and going from Darkmoon Island and seeing the "LFM Darkmoon Rabbit!" in their respective factions general chat .

Encounters like this are reminiscent of the world dragons/bosses in Vanilla and Burning Crusade. I don't miss those either. I know this level 93 Boss drops a very very rare pet. Yes, anyone showing it off is one lucky player, or rich (maybe poor now after buying the pet). But personally I think I will wait until well in Mists of Pandaria to attempt to kill this 10 point Whale Shark.

Fair warning: this foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent is no respecter of innocent bystanders. My server's 40-man to kill him filled up fast, but I decided to go along anyway, to watch/cheer them on/screenshot. 10 seconds into the pull he flew right at me - despite the fact that I was a fair distance away and not attacking - and savagely ripped my throat out.

Needless to say, upon rezzing I went ahead and joined the fight, since the evil little lepus had gone and made it personal.

This is in the game, on the right side of the isle in Darkmoon Island Cave. Coords 75, 78. You need a FULL raid group, about 10 minutes to kill and think 'old school raiding' when you enter the cramped cave. Don't go too far from the cave. He'll try to drown you in the ocean, go up the mountain a little and to the other side of the beach. He does have a terrible fear ability.and 174.5 mil health.

Can verify he spawned at 1:30 pst for us, today.

It does drop 暗月兔子 at the end of the fight. I was fortunate enough to roll a 98 and get it on my first epic battle with the beast. I say I didn't kill it, I tamed it.

36 hour spawn timer is confirmed... I camped this rabbit for 3 days... Saw it once on Friday morning around 3am EST... our group tagged it but someone bugged it by running into the water and it despawned. Didn't see it again until 3pm EST Saturday afternoon. Killed the sucker with 40 people... took roughly 20 minutes. Didn't win the roll however, but the achievement is still pretty rewarding in itself! Good Luck to everyone wanting this achieve & pet! You guys do realize that this achievement is based off of Fargo's WoW based comic Flintlocke vs. The Horde? Fargo used to work for Gamespy, but then went to Blizzard. He introduced his comic characters as NPC's in the Cataclysm expansion!

yeah..., darkmoon fair is now cross realm. with only a single pet drop per kill and a very long spawn timer, it was already hard enough winning the pet in your own server groups, now we have to deal with other server people as well. of course, even if it becomes tap to faction, still have to deal with opposite faction players from other servers so goodbye to ever having any chance at winning the rabbit ever again. hopefully they speed up his spawn timer to compensate(though i wont be holding my breath).

Not only are you up against the opposite faction but you are also up against premades from other servers too.

The spawn rate for the rabbit has to be buffed because as it stands this is one hell of a frustrating achieve to get let alone the pet!

I earned the achievement today for killing the Darkmoon Rabbit. I have never attempted to kill it before because of all the claims of how long the spawn timer was (anywhere from 24-36 hours from what I read). I was not on at the time of the Darkmoon Faire starting (10-5-14 @ 4am), so I can NOT confirm if the rabbit spawned at the beginning of the event. He did spawn at 1:15ish server time (Zul'jin Server EST Server). I began waiting for him about 10am server time. Just wanted to post in case anyone was doing research on spawn timing.

Saw the archivment today, i googled it to find out more about it, curious as i was i ran to the cave and fount the little rabbit there just at the entrance. I attacked it to se if i could solo it. I made it but it took like 15-20 mins to take it down alone. I play retri paladin lvl 100 619 ilvl on Grim Batol EU. and i also got the 暗月兔子 and 那兔子太恐怖啦！

I had looked up the coordinates for the Darkmoon Rabbit and got to the cave. He hadn't spawned yet, so I came to this page to check out the details. Based on what I read, I was disappointed. I really wanted the pet drop. That said, I wasn't going to wait around for him to spawn. I also didn't want to roll against an entire raid group for the drop.

So I alt-tabbed back over, and there he was.

I did a double take, and yes, he was right there. I didn't see anybody else around.

I'm a ilvl 634 Marksmanship hunter. While I had been using Lone Wolf and Iron Hawk for running heroics, I switched to Spirit Bond and Exotic Munitions for the survivability. I brought out my wolf pet for the crit bonus and set him to tenacity.

I started the fight with misdirection to my pet and with pet growl on. My top priority was keeping Mend Pet on at all times. I cast misdirection on cooldown but I still kept pulling aggro. The rabbit doesn't hit especially hard, so I was able to tank it for a bit while my pet's health topped off.

After figuring out this little tank swap strategy, it was rinse and repeat for about five and a half minutes. Not too hard, honestly. I kept worrying that he was going to use a new ability. For what it's worth, I don't believe he ever used his Huge Sharp Teeth ability on me or on my pet. Maybe because I went in solo?

All in all, it was pretty simple. I was in disbelief.

(I stayed an extra half hour afterwards while writing this up and doing things around the house to see if they had buffed the spawn timer substantially. So far, he hasn't spawned again. You could say I'm super lucky, but my alt that's been parked over Shatter Scar Vale looking for a Minfernal would disagree.)

I had read that you could not get it if you were not in the group that pulled it, but I thought hell why not at least try, nothing ventured nothing gained eh. So helped kill it and voilà achieve popped :D

Just got the achievement with a 5 man group using group finder, custom group (make sure to filter and tick all the languages to open up finding more groups available). No pet drop though, that might still only be under raids.

Just did this with a tank and 5 dps, tank was able to keep himself alive without a healer but it was close. Pet dropped for one party member, long fight, real beefy rabbit. 4.7m health I think it was.

I wondered why this rabbit was the only Darkmoon Rabbit on the entire island, so I found it (not knowing how OP it was) and tried to kill it. It took all of my strength to reduce its health to 44400k (I'm a lvl 70 dh). The lesson is to run to Wowhead, always.

just did it as lv 64 paladin with 259 GS and 5 other dd's without heal. sadly i didnt check what level and GS the teammates had to give you more informations. The fight was a at start a bit difficult, because my mana ran out. but once I was able to manage my mana to heal myself, it wasn't that hard.
