How to Find the Maelstrom Weapon RuneMaelstrom Weapon Rune Location

Razorfen Kraul: 卡爾加‧刺肋 in 剃刀沼澤 will drop . This Scroll requires a minimum level of 30.

Take the Scroll to Rau Cliffrunner in Freewind Post, Thousand Needles, /way 46.0 51.6.

Go to Tarren Mill in Hillsbrad Foothills, then follow the River north into Alterac Mountains. Find 『觀風者』巴斯拉 at /way 80.4, 66.8, Alterac Mountains. Before talking to him, do the emote /pray. He will give you three quests to find Elemental items.

For , go to Desolace and collect 5x from Wind Elementals such as 旋風撕裂者, 旋風切割者, and 旋風雷暴行者 (levels 32-37). These are found all over the zone, but the lower-level elementals are most plentiful in the area between the Kodo Graveyard and Thunder Axe Fortress.

For , go to Dustwallow Marsh and collect 5x from Withervine elementals such as 枯藤蠕行者, 枯藤斷木者, 枯藤沼澤獸, and 枯藤狂怒者. These are found in waterways in the northern half of the zone, many right outside Brackenwell Village.

For , go to Badlands and collect 5x from the Rock elementals such as 次級石元素, 石元素, and 巨型石元素. The ones in the 37-40 range are just north and east of Kargath.

Return to 『觀風者』巴斯拉 in Alterac Mountains and, bring 1x 腐化之瓶. Bath'rah will need one for the followup , so bring it with you in advance to save a trip. He gives you a and the quest .

Return to Freewind Post and present the to Rau Cliffrunner. You will then pick up the quest , instructing you that the potion will help you see through the storm.

Drink the Vial and talk to 奈瑟, the Flight Master in Freewind Post to get your wyvern ride into the storm.

Kill the Closest Quillboar caster, then kill the . Loot the . Note: If you die during this fight, talk to the spirit guide and ask to be taken back to where you were -- do not Spirit Resurrect!

Return to Rau Cliffrunner to turn in and receive your non-Rune rewards. He will give you the followup quest , sending you back to 『觀風者』巴斯拉.

Return to 『觀風者』巴斯拉 in Alterac Mountains to receive the Rune.

Before You Go: You will need one vendor-purchased 腐化之瓶 for one part in the questline.

I finally finished this mind-numbingly painful quest. PSA - don't be alarmed if you get no experience when you turn in the three essences quest. I turned it in at 38 and got zero experience. The bracer reward is pretty nice though.

Things I learned along the way:

1) Air elementals in Desolace. These spawns share a mob table with the buzzards, thunder lizards, and basilisks. I spent about six hours here.
2) Dustwallow - I just did small loops just south of Brackenwall every ten minutes or so. I also did other quests in this area to break up the slog. I spent about 4 hours here.
3) I did the earth elementals first and it was largely uncontested at the camps just outside Kargath. The mob levels here range from 37-40. I saw some low 30s grouping here so if you going for this at low level (below 35) bring help. Spent about an hour or so here. I got unlucky with drops.

Mileage may vary, but these three quests took me a lot longer than I would have liked. The drop rate needs to be buffed significantly. Especially with how contested and awful spawn timers some of these have.

For the Power of Da Earth, I had a 100% drop rate of the Rumbling Essence from the Rock Elementals, killed 10 lvl 39 as a 35 and got 1 from each. By far the easiest of the three. For optimal farming I recommend the Southern Badlands area as it only has the Rock elementals. If you go with a friend or at 36 you can probably kill the level 40 ones as well.

So I have killed the last boss of rfk multiple times, some before 30, some after 30, and never gotten the note to drop. Anyone know what I am doing wrong or is it a lower drop chance than people think?

Desolace - Horrible drop rate and horrible spawn rate, had the best luck between Ethel Rethor and Thunderaxe. I was killing anything to try and get more elemental spawns, took about 1h30m here.

Dustwallow Marsh - Horrible drop rate again but more reliable spawns. The higher level trash around the zone however made this worse than Desolace, took about 2h here.

Badlands - Great drop rate and great spawns. The elementals by Kargath only gave me 3 out 7, but then I traveled to the ones in the south and got my last 7 in 7 kills, would recommend going there for sure,

The guide is misleading its missing a important step. After you get the Eye of the Tempest return to Free Wind Post to return the quest before going to Bath'rah the Windwatcher north of Tarren Mill.

Bath'rah the Windwatcher converted my entire stack of 5 Crystal Viles when i turned in the part to get Squall-Breakers Potion btw

As of between me farming 10 essences in Desolace, going to Dustwallow Marsh, starting to farm, taking a nap for an hour, coming back, they changed it so you only need 5 of each essence now.

5 days later after somebody said it, you're still missing a step.

Missing a Step: After killing The closest caster and the Elite huge water elemental, Looting the eye.
GO BACK TO Rau Ciffrunner in freewind post. Then go to Bath'rah the windwatcher and receive Rune of the Storm engraving

Fix your guide, please; just wasted 15 minutes of my life running that could have been avoided.

I went to Alterac Mountains praying to the npc as the guide told me but somehow completely missed that Rau offered a follow-up quest when you complete the Tattered Note quest. So just to clarify the very first parts:

Enter Razorfen Kraul and loot the 破爛的筆記 from 卡爾加·刺肋.
This item starts which is completed at 勞恩·峭壁行者 at Freewind Post in Thousand Needles.
He will then offer you the quest . Accept this quest BEFORE you go to 『觀風者』巴斯拉 in Alterac Mountains.

Maybe a little pedantic but:

This is a lower-level version of another quest line normally available for Horde around level 52. Blizzard seems to have borrowed the ending for this rune quest.

This may be similar to the shaman ST quest but it definitely didn't borrow the ending. This was all new for SoD and actually a real cool finale to a cool quest chain, just figured I'd point that out so the SoD team gets the credit they deserve

Here are a couple of macros to help you out with your search.
It took me about 4-5 hours to complete the questline at degenerate hours 1 AM - 5 AM with Netflix on a PvP server at LV 40 with mount. You cannot kill hope. Best of luck!

#Dustwallow (took me about 10 kills for 5 drops)

#Badlands (took me about 10 kills for 5 drops) You don't need a macro for the rock elementals in Badlands since they are grouped up.

Requirements have been changed to 5 and the drop rate has increased significantly. Took no longer than 10 minutes for me to get each set of the items, even while struggling with the Badlands elementals as a level 35.

If you died to "Raging Tempest" Talk to the Spirit Healer, my random shaman friend and I died and we spirt walked to the cave to see if it can be in range (It's not) then He went to the Freewing Post to Talk to the flight master (He's not there in to talk to him"I guess we have to take a rez sickne... wait... we can rez from the Spirt Healer.... ARE YOU F*KING KIDDING ME XD I laughed so hard and was just looking at the comments.
