The Honor Problem in Burning Crusade Classic
23.06.2021 в 13:59
In Burning Crusade Classic, there is a massive problem for players trying to farm honor through battlegrounds in hopes of purchasing off pieces for Season 1 Arena gear. This issue began to present itself during the Pre-Patch event leading up to the Dark Portal opening,
where Blizzard implemented a "double Honor" week
. While that was nice for the Pre-Patch, it was merely a band-aid on a bigger issue... Horde queue times are getting worse and worse every day since Burning Crusade Classic launched.
Arena is an extremely popular mode for Player versus Player content and Burning Crusade is the expansion this game mode was introduced to World of Warcraft. One of the hot button issues for over a decade in World of Wacraft is Racial ability balance. Alliance players have
, Horde players have
. The Horde racials are generally considered to be much more impactful in PvP situations, as Undead is one of the most popular race choices for top performing teams.
While this issue isn't
a Racial ability issue, it also comes down to the fact that players are required to play with the same faction in arena. That means when a group of people choose to play one faction, other people that might want to play with those people will also go to that faction, and in the end, everyone has a larger pool of players to play with.
Taking a look at the demographics (
thanks to Ironforge.pro
) from the final weeks of World of Warcraft Classic versus the first few weeks of Burning Crusade Classic, you can see how the Horde have become even more popular on North American PvP Realms:
World of Warcraft Classic Demographics
Burning Crusade Classic Demographics
As the demographic data shows, Horde made up 53% of the population at the tail end of World of Warcraft Classic, and now make up 61% in Burning Crusade Classic. This inevitable causes a major issue when it comes to queuing for Battlegrounds, which is always an Alliance versus Horde PvP activity. With the lopsided populations, Horde Battleground queues get longer and longer.
And this isn't only a problem for the Horde. Because as the queue times get longer, Horde players look for opportunities to farm Honor elsewhere on PvP realms. That means they go out in the world and kill lower leveled players trying to innocently quest in each zone in Outland. In fact, you can get more honor from killing low level players in Zangarmarsh in a 45 minute queue than you would get from the entire battleground's worth of honor.
This isn't a healthy experience for Horde or Alliance players.
As you can expect, players are not happy with how things have evolved in Burning Crusade Classic. There are even some prominent community figures that aren't even going to play Arena at all because of how long the grind is to farm honor for Horde players.
"Player Created Issue"
Some players think the Honor Problem isn't something that needs to be fixed at all, because it is a "player created issue".
If Horde don't want long queue times, just re-roll Alliance
. While this is one way to look at the problem, the same could be said about
World Buffs in World of Warcraft Classic
. This was a player created issue, as well, where players were so invested in doing as much damage as possible, that logging out with World Buffs was the norm, to save them for raid night.
If World Buffs are an issue, just raid without them
. Thankfully, Blizzard didn't see it that way and did create a unique solution to the problem with
, even if it did come extremely late in World of Warcraft Classic.
"But That Isn't original Burning Crusade"
This idea of Classic staying true to the original Burning Crusade is
. The game and the community is just too different, we've got
Level 58 Character Boosts
. On top of all that, Blizzard is aware of how different the community is in 2021 versus 2007, which is exactly why they chose to give
to Alliance players, when it was a Horde only ability in original Burning Crusade. There are just so many things that separate Classic from original Burning Crusade, that the entire argument to "stay true" can basically be thrown out the window.
is a system Blizzard introduced in Warlords of Draenor, allowing players to participate in a Battleground as the opposite faction. This is the most recommended fix from the community to help alleviate the queue time issues Horde are facing. While it isn't quite as elegant of a solution as the Chronoboon Displacer was, what is stopping Blizzard from introducing another
that could essentially do the same thing?
This Honor Problem in Burning Crusade Classic is also a "player created issue" and the community is begging Blizzard to do something about it. It is a bad thing for both Alliance and Horde players, and there is a precedent with Blizzard fixing "player created issues" by introducing brand new items on Chromie. We should all hope that if Blizzard ever does address this issue or come up with a solution, hopefully it won't take until the Sunwell Patch for it to come out.
