Remember those old one turn kill Freeze Mages? Well Garethax has created a hybrid between the classic decklist with a more modern twist in the form of and . Though it's not revolutionary or anything, it's a great reminder that sometimes trying something that's normally considered less than optimal can lead to success. No one out there is going to play around so maybe he can steal you a win or two. Head on over to
the deck guide
for more detailed stats.
PROS:
Utilizes the win conditions of the old OTK Ancient mage deck, plus the classic Alexstraza + all normal freeze win-conditions that do not involve Antonidas or Pyroblast (Yes this narrows things down a bit).
This deck is capable of comboing; Brann, and the double-apprentice into Ancient Mage OTK to deliver exactly 30 damage in just frostbolt and ice lances. Using Fireball and Forgotten torch on top of the aforementioned combo can OHK everything short of a heavily-armored Warrior and Mages behind Ice Block. On top of this with Emperor discounts and Brann+ Ancient Mage it's insanely easy to do 15-20 damage (un-discounted Brann + Sorcerer's Apprentice + Ancient into frostbolt Ice lance = 15 dmg).
This deck is meant to draw into it's combo as quickly as possible and can overdraw/ mill opposing freeze-mage and control decks, or combo coldlight and novice with Brann when a victory seems secure through Alex and traditional Freeze-Combo's.
The faster and higher-burst OTK provided means the deck is capable of ignoring the existence of Reno Jackson, or even turn him into a liability/ dead card.

CONS:
Fewer long/multi-turn win conditions and less stabilizing/AOE and control-oriented cards than traditional Freeze-Mage means this deck barely squeaks-bye more often then I would prefer against aggro Decks.
Control-Warrior is still Extremely difficult, if not impossible, the only potential benefit to running this over Antonidas Freeze-Mage against Warriors is that this deck is capable of drawing into and delivering an insane amount of damage slightly faster which may allow you to barely finish off a heavy Warrior deck instead of coming up short with Antonidas. (And of course to finish off Reno decks as if the card didn't exist)
