Hatecrest Screamers south of Feathermoon Stronghold will rarely drop a spent voidcore. Once you get one of these to drop, keep killing naga until the shadowy figure appears that'll give you a mote of darkness after talking to her. Combine both items to make a charged voidcore.

Took me a bit over 100 kills on regular demons to get the Shadowy Figure to spawn in Mannoroc Coven, Desolace

after you get to where you're going to farm demons... please relog.

i just spent like an hour killing demons just for the mob to spawn for literally everyone else, including the horde off of my kill. jfc lmao.

relogging, and another spawned in like 3 kill thankfully.

Hello, So we was a party farming for hours.
one dude got DC, and after the DC it spawned for only him.
we all relogged and finally it dropped for 4/5 of us.

I farmed for hours, relogged many times, restarted wow aswell.
It then hit me to delete cache folder in wow location.
So i quitted wow, deleted folder. Logged in, killed a random wolf (not even the mobs i grinded to start with) and it spawns on the first try.

noway its random. something is bugged with this quest.

Yeah so two theories:

1. It's time based and x amount of time needs to have passed before killing something lets you meet the shadowy figure
2. you need to farm anything within your level range (be it players or npc's but the chance is very low.

I tried farming the naga's since other people claimed they could spawn the NPC just the same but had little luck after killing a few dozen of them. I ended up logging out and when I came back later and killed a random goblin mob in STV I met her within a kill or 3.

We'll need to see whether someone was able to meet the shadowy figure extremely quickly after acquiring the item from the naga or whether it might just primarily be a time-based lockout.

I've seen the shadowy figure now appear from killing a Bear in Feralas and an Ogre in Feralas....it appears it doesn't need to be a demon at all.

I was wondering around Manoroc Coven and spotted a Shadowy Figure. No kills, job done :)

The north island where Feathermoon Stronghold is located has a lot of caster naga along the beach and around the naga compound to the south.
I found the nagas at the compound to be mostly melee, but easy to find casters around it. After I got the first part, I just fought mobs on the way to the flightpath. 4-5 naga, nothing. First wolf, the figure showed up. No logging out for mine.

Others mentioned deleting cache folder. Deleting the cache folder was also a fix for a bug involving the Trap launcher rune. If you don't know where it is, the folder is where you would find WTF and Interface. You can just delete the folder that says Cache.

Reporting:

I did this on two characters. First character took forever, eventually got both from the naga in the cave. I was in a group of three, and it seemed like semi-personal loot. Different people could see the item, sometimes only one person, sometimes two people. Same with the shadowy figure. Sometimes two could see, sometimes only one.

Second character: I cleared my cache as suggested by others. First item dropped in four kills. I went to kill random things in the world. Tons of low level mobs and critters, but no shadowy figure. Went into Gnomeregan (outside the instance with the gnomes and trogs). Killed about 8 gnomes and 7 trogs, and the shadowy figure spawned there. My guess is it is anything level appropriate.

Spent one hour killing demons with no sucess, then i deleted cache and relogged and got it within 3 mobs

I killed like 4 Nagas. got the voidcore.
Killed like 10 nagas.

I did the naga, in tandem with the scales quest, finished the scales before I got my first voidcore, proceeded to get 5 more before the figure spawned, took about an hour or so...
I assume you have to go back to BB to take the port back up?

I had a extreme good lucky today on this quest... I killed just one naga spell caster to get the item and then in desolace I killed a lv38 player hunter to spawn the shadow figure. So yeah, is confirmed that kill players will spawn the shadow figure

idk about anyone else but this quest isnt even showing for me after I get teleported up. reloged and exited and nothin. cant even interact with the npc

Shadowy Figure step

killed a few dozen, nothing.

cleared my cache, killed a dozen, nothing.

relogged, used an alt for few minutes, came back, few kills, nothing.

disabled all my addons, killed 1 mob and it spawned.

turned my addons back on and it was gone.

Got whole quest done in like 20 mobs. South of feralas, kill lady mobs, then I exited out of wow and also re-logged char (In that order, but maybe do before) and 2 more male mobs naga and I got the other part done.

Can confirm that the Shadowy Figure can spawn of ANY mob in the world, not just demons like some people claim. I got it to spawn off a Woodpaw Humanoid in Feralas, Friends have gotten it off Nagas in Feralas. Overall I'd recommend just farming out the Voidcore at the Nagas and then just staying there and keep farming until the Shadowy Figure spawns.

I didn't see this anywhere else, but I was out farming naga after getting my Núcleo de Caos Gasto but before getting my Partícula de Escuridão. Someone nearby (that I wasn't grouped with) must have spawned the Shadowy figure and I was able to just walk up and talk to them too. Very lucky on my part, but just in case that's relevant to anyone else..

killed about 20 hatecrest screamers. did not have to delete cache. about 50 kills later, figure spawned. did not have to clear cache at all.

I was farming like 1-2 hour. I relogged and there was 2 Shadowy Figure nearby two corps :/

You probably need to relog after getting Spent Voidcore to see Shadowy Figures

I need some help here:
I completed quadrangulation ( Quadrangulation#comments), talked to scooty and was teleported to Wirdal Wondergear in Feralas.
But Wirdal doesnt have a quest for me.
Are there any other quests i have to do before i go to Wirdal?

May be coincidence but it worked. Got the voidcore and when I decided to relog (after many kills) I got the spirit spawining within just 2 kills.

Farmed all the nagas for 2 hours by myself and got nothing. Grouped with a friend and got the core in 1 kill and the figure on the second.

Farmed this out in Phase 3 of SoD. Killed naga in Feralas near Feathermoon until getting the core to drop. Then wasn't getting the shadowy figure to appear after a while of more farming. About 20 mins and I got impatient. Reading comments here suggested to try logging out, deleting cache, and also killing mobs near your level. Figured I might not have success on level 41-43 mobs such as the naga so I went to un goro crater and started killing lashers. Logged out and back in. About 11 lashers in and no shadowy figure. Then I got impatient and deleted cache. Killed 3 more lashers and got it to appear.

While doing this quest on my warlock post-P3 launch, I had two Shadowy Figures spawn at the same time during a ZF run in the scarab room.
Doubt the screenshot I sent in will get approved as my group ran off and nearly wiped while I was taking it, but I definitely recommend that spot for any recipe completionists.

[I can repair that processor for you, but I need a somewhat hard-to-get item; a Charged Voidcore. Naga spell casters are known to carry these and while I can't be sure where the Naga get them or how they are made, they tend to act as powerful foci for certain types of magical rituals. They are the key component to my G-7 C.O.R.E. Processor unit. They aren't common so you may be in for a tough time finding one.]
