Following the end of the Eternal Palace, Jaina and Lor'themar have a bit of dialogue concerning their factions.
Story spoilers.
Thanks to Oltanya-Zul'jin for sending us this dialogue.
In this exchange, Lor'themar pledges himself to Saurfang's rebellion. N'Zoth has been freed, and to make things worse, Sylvanas is still a threat in Orgrimmar.
Lor'themar: Our victory rings hollow. Azshara's master will rise. Nothing can stop that now.
Jaina: For all her lies, Priscilla Ashvane spoke one truth. The war between the Alliance and Horde has kept us distracted. Divided, we have no hope against N'Zoth.
Lor'themar: We may have found common cause here in Nazjatar, but the battle still rages beyond these waters. So long as Sylvanas holds Orgrimmar, there can be no lasting peace.
Jaina: The war needs to end, Lor'themar. You know this to be true.
Lor'themar: I had hoped that reason would prevail. But the time has come to finish this.
Lor'themar: I will tell my people what transpired here. Of how Azshara fell because we stood together. Of the threat rising from the depths, and all that is at stake if we should fail.
Lor'themar: Then I will take my place beside Saurfang and Thrall, and pray that the sin'dorei stand with me.
Lor'themar and Jaina were enemies in Mists of Pandaria, as Jaina purged the Sunreavers from Dalaran. Upon completing the War Campaign, Lor'themar has a conversation with Thalyssra making peace with their past:
Lor'themar Theron: Proudmoore and Shaw risked their lives to rescue Baine? Unexpected.
First Arcanist Thalyssra: Is it? Not long ago, Alliance and Horde fought together to liberate Suramar from the Legion.
Lor'themar Theron: Cooperation between our sides has been the exception, not the rule. More often, we are at each other's throats.
First Arcanist Thalyssra: The animosity only benefits Azshara. Her power is considerable. Divided, we are no match for her--or the master she serves.
Lor'themar Theron: Sylvanas has the loyalty of the people. So long as she is warchief, this war will rage within their hearts. We cannot stop it.
First Arcanist Thalyssra: Perhaps we do not need to. It might be enough to direct our attacks against Azshara rather than the Alliance.
Lor'themar Theron: That plan would infuriate Blightcaller... which makes me like it all the more. Hmm... "It stops when you turn from one another and walk away..."
First Arcanist Thalyssra: What was that?
Lor'themar Theron: A lesson once taught to Jaina Proudmoore and me. Your counsel is wise, Thalyssra. Our focus must be on ending Azshara's reign.
Lor'themar Theron: But if the Alliance undermines our efforts, the flames of war will rise once again.
The line "It stops when you turn from one another and walk away..." references dialogue in
A Queda de Shan Bu
from Mists, where Taran Zhu tries to have them break their cycle of hatred:
Lady Jaina Proudmoore: Hand over the Archmage and I may yet allow you to walk out of here, Lor'themar.
Lor'themar Theron: Proudmoore! You will release my people from the Violet Hold, or I will cut you down myself!
Lady Jaina Proudmoore: Your people are legitimate prisoners of war. They orchestrated an attack on Darnassus from MY city-
Lor'themar Theron: The Sunreavers knew NOTHING of Garrosh's raid on Darnassus!
Taran Zhu: ENOUGH!! There will be no more bloodshed today.
Taran Zhu: I see now why your Alliance and Horde cannot stop fighting.
Taran Zhu: Every reprisal is itself an act of aggression, and every act of aggression triggers immediate reprisal.
Lady Jaina Proudmoore: They have undermined EVERY attempt at peace!
Lor'themar Theron: I must protect my sovereign people.
Taran Zhu: SILENCE! YOU must break the cycle.
Taran Zhu: It ends TODAY. Here. The cycle ends when you, Regent Lord, and you, Lady Proudmoore, turn from one another. And walk. Away.
As we've seen in the Crossroads cinematic, Jaina and Thrall are willing to work together, learning from their paths to forge a (hopefully) long-lasting peace. Now, with the new conversation between Jaina and Lor'themar, Saurfang's rebellion has gained one more key supporter. This is a big step for Lor'themar, who knows who Sylvanas was as a loyal defender of Silvermoon before her death and transformation. In our
Crossroads cinematic analysis
, we wonder if this newfound unity will lead to the dissolution of the factions--or if we've gone too far in Battle for Azeroth to truly mend relations, leading to even more rifts and alignments.
