My warrior used to have it. It procs about 1 every 5 minutes. In my opinion, I wouldn't suggest even bothering with it. Sorry.

Let's see if I can handle all of the various bits of nonsense from prior posts, dispel them for you, and give you facts (or common sense where I have none) to help you:

1 - Spirit has nothing to do with the rate of a weapon proc. Put that stupid rumor to rest.

2 - This weapon's proc is an 8-second stun. Use common sense... if the weapon didn't have a very rare proc % then it would be unbalanced: 8 seconds is a LONG amount of time in WoW fights. I have now used it for a few outings and haven't seen it proc yet. I am not disappointed yet -- I expected it to be rare. My Warrior is a Mace master anyway, so I expect that some of the stuns which occur toward the end of a fight will be unrecognizable. When I see a stun at the start of a fight which keeps going and going... I'll know it proc'd. :)

As a poster above indicated, use this weapon because it has good numbers, as well as to impress everyone with a rarely-obtained weapon, not to mention that awesome-to-read "chance on hit: 8 second stun" blurb. Even if you know it's rare, don't tell anyone... people will think you rule.

3 - Miners can obtain Dark Iron Ore from Blackrock Depths (BRD) and now the Burning Steppes finally. Also, no matter what your professions, you will occasionally get a Dark Iron Ore drop from a mob in BRD.

4 - How to smelt: You must first learn HOW to smelt. Then you can go to the Dark Forge and smelt your bars (8 ore per 1 bar). To do either or both, you must go very far into BRD. I wull assume that you haven't learned how to Smelt Dark Iron yet. Before you go to BRD, put 2 Star Rubies, 10 Truesilver Bars, and 20 Gold in your inventory. I don't think you can learn how if you are in a raid though I could be wrong on that. Also I strongly suggest that you have the Shadowforge Key, because if not, then your only alternative is to make sure you have friends who are willing to go with you and take a lot of their time just for you and your stupid Dark Iron stuff :P

A ghosty Dark Iron Dwarf named Gloom'rel is where you learn to smelt the stuff. To get to him, go first to the Shadowforge lock and extend the bridge, head up the ramp, to the left and across the bridge, then follow the hallway as it snakes a little, and take your first right down the ramp to the room with all the through the area with all the patrolling gnomes with guns and the golems. Lord Argelmach is there, but you don't have to kill him. Actually, just kill the patrolling gnomes and head down the hall until you are about to enter the room with Argelmach, and look right. You will see a bridge guarded by Fireguard Destroyers. Hug that wall. Kill the Fireguards (make sure your fire resist is good!) and you can cross the bridge... once you kill 3 more. Past them is the Grim Guzzler, a bar filled with yellow NPCs. Buy Dark Iron Ales for Private Rocknot on the 2nd level of the bar. Give him enough and he will go break the kegs. That angers the Golem that's sitting there twitching in the far corner, who then turns red, breaks the back door, and then stands in the doorway ready to fight. Fight the Golem but avoid ANY damage/effects (AoE, Cleave, Whirlwind, shouts, etc) to the patrons nearby or the WHOLE BAR will aggro on you. After that, continue staying to the left, fighting all the mobs that present a threat and at last you'll make it to the chamber with the 7 Ghosts.

Talk to Gloom'rel first! If you talk to Doom'rel before learning to Smelt Dark Iron you will have to fight and kill Gloom'rel. Talk to Gloom'rel and he says he needs the Star Rubies, Truesilver, and the Gold. Drop those in the bowl thing next to him and then talk to him again. You now know how to Smelt the Dark Iron Ore. Talk to Doom'rel now because you have to get past this room. The 7 Dwarf Ghosts will come one at a time to fight you. Deal with them, loot the chest that appears, and then continue out of the room and down the ramp (or go to the Lyceum but that's where the Emperor is so if you are short on time don't bother).

You will see 3 Fireguards again, guarding a bridge. Beyond them are 3 more Fireguards and the entrance to the Molten Core raid instance. You need only kill those first 3 Fireguards. Then notice the metal path built over the lavafall on the left. Kill that one last Fireguard. Smelt the Dark Iron Ore at the Dark Forge.

5 - How to make the Pulverizer: Like other Dark Iron plans, the Pulverizer can only be created on the Dark Anvil. If you are going to smelt in the same trip as make something (recommended), it's easy from there. Simply go to the back door of the Grim Guzzler and look down. Lord Incendius is guarding the Dark Anvil. Step to the edge and you will see a flaring hallway with 6 Fireguards arranged in 3 sets of 2. Drop down as a group and fight 2 Fireguards at a time (attack one and they both aggro). Clear out the hallway, then pull Lord Incendius to the hallway, because if you fight him around the Dark Anvil he will occasionally "toss" you, which will send you plummeting down into the lava from which there is no getting out of. Kill him, and make your Pulverizer and/or whatever other Dark Iron stuff you came to make.

I am on my very first character ever in WoW. (it came free with my computer). As soon as I saw the schematics for this weapon, my goal in life became to get one. I have worked extremely hard to level my blacksmithing skill up to 265 in order to be able to make this weapon alone. I set all of my talent points towards having this weapon. I am now close to level 50, and I realize there is no chance for me to be able to ever get one of these without having at least 200++ gold to spend on it, or leveling to 60 and spending a solid month on trying to become able to smelt/use dark iron ore.

Then of course I come to find that the 8 second stun has a less than 1% chance to work. What a terrible disappointment. Getting a dark iron pulverizer is actually more difficult than getting an unstoppable force.... and of course you must consider the fact that the dark iron pulverizer kind of sucks in comparrison to what a level 60 could be using(and you will definitely be level 60 before you can actually create this weapon)

The increase in the level cap means that within the near future, all non-stealthers will be able to reliably solo BRD. Dark Iron gear, especially the fairly good items such as this hammer (BE pallies anyone?) might actually become more common as players look to equip guildies and alts with gear that previously would have been difficult to acquire.

It takes 8 dark iron ore to make 1 dark iron bar

The forge is off to the left just before the bridge at the MC portal inside BRD.

You need to learn Smelt Dark Iron ore from the NPC in the room with the chest of the seven, it takes 2 star ruby, 20 gold bar, and 10 truesilver bar to learn to smelt dark iron ore.

I just recently had this mace made for my level 50 warrior.... Its a damn good mace regardless the proc rate, because its so slow, and has 211 base end damage, its gonna %^&* up your oponent regardless the proc. I mean, alot of ppl get this mace because of its proc, and i agree, the proc rate is extremely low, but its still a great weapon to !@#$ up ur enemy with. Level 50 warrior crits 1000 white damage with it...yea...

I have this piece of junk. It literally procs at .1%, just doesn't happen, even with windfury going and flurry and berzerking at every cooldown. And then when it procs, you're holding a 48 DPS weapon.

Do not make this.

Does anyone have this? 8 second stun proc sounds so deadly, especially for a Shaman using windfury.

I made one for a warrior in my guild yesterday, he seems quite happy with it. The hard part of course is getting all that Dark Iron. You don't have to be a hammersmith, just a weaponsmith.

Oh, and it basically looks like someone took a big brick of Dark Iron and attached a handle to it.

geez, im a pally n would love to have it, 8 second stun is enough to heal me and my party member, and it would sure proc a lot more often eith the SoC thas for sure....

This Hammer blows so bad 47 dps omg i have seen 1 handed with more then that this is no wheres worth 144 dark iron ore.....

Is there anyone who's used this that can give us an idea of how often it procs? I'm thinking of using this in Moonkin form. It'd be nice in parties (for obvious reasons) and great for soloing - eight seconds is enough for nearly three uninterrupted Starfires.

This is where fury builds come in. With the reduction they made to the health cost of bloodrage, and fury builds having a reduction of cooldown time to slam, this can be a very deadly weapon. It does enough damage to do slam right after a hit, providing the enemy is attacking u. It goes like this: Howl, run, intercept, melee, slam, slam, melee. There are lots of chances to proc in those four attacks, because proc chances are increased the slower the weapon is. Plus, dont worry about hte rage cost, I see a lot of players ending a duel with over 60 rage points. In conclusion, definately a warrior weapon.

One of my guildies has this hammer. He doesn't recommend making another one : /

The proc is rather low(2-3% maybe), and with the 3.7 speed its extremely hard to get a proc off.

Actual WoW Classic test. Hours of offline before it. So no attacks with this weapon was done for a long time before test.
I used script to track timestamps of stun procs, so time offsets exact.

One combat fight on "training dummy" with around half an hour length.
Time in seconds. "+" means offset from previous timestamp.
Combat log:
0. Combat started.
234. First proc.
+144. Proc.
+728. Proc.
+15. Proc.
+14. Proc.
+62. Proc.
+76. Proc.
+222. Proc.
+306. Proc.
+122. Proc.
+0. Combat ended.

So as you can see there is no any patterns that can allow you to abuse this weapon. Just $%^&ty RNG weapon.
