1.2 attack speed, does anyone know if it has fire resists like most mobs in that zone? might pick this one up other than Searing Roc and use as main pet if it does.

This is a RARE Silver Elite Spawn. Waited around about 5 hours for it too spawn. Does not have any resists, but after the last WOW patch none of the pets have resistances anymore.

Cleared the spawn area where it is marked as spawning in 1.3.0 several times over a few hours...nothing... Will try again in the morning... :/

Ok, found him this morning (Sunday 07H30)and noticed one thing. He is an EXTRA spawn, i.e. he doesn't take one of the other creature's spawns, so you don't have to clear the spawn to try make him pop. And he isn't silver. :P Normal looking vulture.

btw, saw Grunter just to the north of him...

ive been camping the place on the map where it�s supposed to spawn, been here severals day, up to 5 hours in a row, still no bird. has anyone seen it lately?

Oh, I know the feeling. I camped Deathmaw for about a week (off and on, for about 2-3 hours straight per time), and never once did I see him.

Just started looking for Spiteflayer today, just running around the mountain.

Anyone have any coords? The thott spawn/sighting map is pretty damn vague.

Killed this bird just off of Nethergard Keep exit, the one close to Serpent's Coil. When ppl said that this is a silver elite, what I did notice was that the dragon next to the icon is silver as oppose to some rare spawns are gold.

It dropped a cape which has +23 healing power, which is not bad for my restoration druid.

I heard Spiteflayer has an attack speed of 1.2, can have either dive, bite, (cower?), or screech. I was wandering if that would make it a better choice over an owl of the same level? Owls can't have bite and they only have attack speeds of 2.0. Oh, by the way, Ravage -- a lvl 51 hyenna with dash 3 -- can be found in the same area in the blasted lands.

I tamed him a few weeks ago and he is now 59, but I can't seem to figure out where to find his Screech ability. I re-trained him in TB from the ground up and still not anywhere i his spell book nor his training ability page.

I tried the Hunter forums with no luck and my post isn't even there any longer ... any help would be great.

I finally found him at 59,46 at 9:07am PST (9:07am Server Time) on the Crushridge server! This location is just north of the dark portal where the demons end and the beasts begin.

Hunted him for 12 hours one Sunday. His place holder (PH) spawns in two spots. The first one is 59,40 and the second one is 57,44. They are VERY close to one another. You will know you are in the right area when you see one lone Black Slayer. The Black Slayer is Spiteflayer's PH. He flys around the area. If you notice, all of the other Black Slayers stay more or less where they spawn. This guy flys around.

Stay in the area, and keep killing everything in site. You will kill dozens of the PH's until finally, low and behold, Spiteflayer spawns.

I ran into a major alli problem when i when to tame it so i tried to tame it late at night. i was the only one in that area and tried to kill what i thought to be the PH (place holder) tried for hours. got to tiered to keep trying.. so the next moring i got up and whent there really early before anyone was there again. and there he was around 57,44. There is no PH he is an extra spawn that just spawns Rare. My advice is to be an early bird to get this one before anyone else has a chance to kill him or tame him. GL and this why you wont have to wait around forever just wake up and get him... GL :)

Found him around 61,41 at 1:12a ST. It looked like he was flying the same path as the Black Slayer that spawns around 57,46, but they do not share the spawn as the Slayer attacked me just after I tamed Spite (so the posters who say that he has no PH are correct).

From what I have gathered, all three rares in this area (Spiteflayer, Ravage, Grunter) are on the same 8hr timer, so one of the three will spawn at approximately 9:10a, 5:10p and 1:10a ST. This is just a hypothesis from other posts I have found here and elsewhere and has not been tested.

There is no placeholder. The best way to tame just about any rare is to park your toon in the vicinity of the spawn, set your alarm clock, and go to bed. Get up early (as in earlier than 6AM). If the rare isn't there in the morning, don't waste your time trying to make it spawn; just try again the next morning. This is how I've tamed everything from Snarler to Broken Tooth to ... Spiteflayer. First time, just about every time. Good luck!

Tamed this guy = ) tried killing the one that some call a PH and clearing the field over and over- in the long run him and his so called PH both spawned at the same time at 5AM eastern- I think the people who say the early bird gets the worm got it. Screech is a great ability and pair that with the only Bird in the game with under 2.0 attack (1.2)- this guy is one the most handy pets. Yes there is a Bat in ZB that has a faster attack and bats can screech so if you feel like waiting HE has the fastest attack in the game 1.0 but is a 60 and has to eat fruit : P

Finally found him, after 3 nights of a couple/few hours. He doesn't share a spawn spot with anything else. The odd thing about his spawn was that Teremus the Devourer was wandering from the Dark Portal area then stayed in one place for a few minutes like he was stuck. As I got closer to Teremus to show a friend a dragon, the bird popped out of nowhere. The map on this page is probably right, but where he first appeared was at the bottom dots. He does have a nasty 10min curse that increases damage done to you by 52. So far, Great pet. Good hunting!

I was just going to grind.. thought he was just another bird but nope it was Spiteflayer. Level 52 and hits pretty hard. Wasnt hard to kill except he almost killed my pet. killed him on 3/26/06 at around 8:50am game time. found him at about 58,41

Great pet so far. Quick as a whip. He outruns me
even with Aspect of the Cheetah turned on.

Can't wait to level him up and take him into WSG.

It took me an hour of camping where he spawns.

After killing 12 placeholder carrion birds he
spawned. If you want him as a pet, don't give up!
He'll spawn eventually. It only took me an hour :D

I found him on 5/8/05 at around 8:30 PST. I was looking for Deathmaw at one point in the Burning Steppes to no avail, but the stats of Spiteflayer according to a report where the same as Deathmaw except Spiteflayer could learn more and ate fish and meat not just meat.

Anyways, it looked as if he were coming out of the Dark Portal area of Blasted Lands. Tamed him as soon as I saw him. About freakin' time.

He flies back and forth north to south in the middle of the indicated area on the map. If you see a Black Slayer flying this route keep killing that spawn and eventually Spiteflayer will appear. If you have trouble finding him just get on the south side of Serpent's Coil (the hill) and wait for him to arrive between the two indentations. That's where he stops and turns around and heads back south. Keep killing those Black Slayers that run that route, they're the placeholder for him. The last two times I've been to Blasted Lands and spent any amount of time I've been able to tame him. He's easy to get to spawn. Now Ravage seems to be a different story. I've not seen him yet. After having Spiteflayer for awhile I've been very happy with his performance. Screech is invaluable and this pet is a nice alternative to the typical white owl or the 1.0 bat. I've grown increasingly less impressed with the fast hitting pets for PvE. The only thing they're good for is keeping casters from getting off spells. They don't do enough damage to be viable in my opinion. Spiteflayer does decent damage for his 1.2 attack speed, so I would count him as an exception. As other have said, it's sometimes hard to target around him, but it comes with having a bird as a pet.

Hi,

I picked up the Spiteflayer today. I got to the location killed a few things, then the power went out in my house. I logged back in 5 mins later, and there he was flying by me. Snatched him up, the rest is history. All told, it took about 10mins of camping him. I got lucky, I also had the same thing happen with Broken Tooth, found him, trained him, in under 10mins of searching for him.

And just so you know there is no PH, as there was another plain old black slayer flying along the same path as the Spiteflayer.

I'v been looking for this bird for about a month and when I finally got it, I was soon anoyed by it's movement. Those birds tend to be between the camera and you or your targets. The good thing is, that they annoy your opponents, too.
Stats are a bit better then ravage (attack speed 1.2 instead of 1.3) but I wouldn't tame this one again.
If you don't mind this, it's the best PvP pet in the 50s

This is the info I have on this rare bird. He does spawn in the area posted but it is not an 8 hour spawn rate like others have said. Ravage spawned at 3:40 pm (well it was when I found him). Killed him then logged in 3 houes later (6:30 pm) and Spiteflayer was there, trap...shot...tamed...done. He does seem to do very well in PvE and PvP.

Picked up Spiteflayer by chance as I spent 10 days camping the area for Ravage who never popped up. After being tamed, at lvl52 Spiteflayer lists at 47.5 dps (1.2 attack speed) and can learn all abilities. He comes with lvl3 dive. Doesn't have any type of growl, bite, or claw ability right off the bat, so he holds no aggro, but you can easily teach him those.

The downside is indeed that he often flutters in you line of sight... yet, he does it more so to those you sick him on, so call it a trade off :)

So I've been looking for this freakin Bird here and there for over a year.
The past 4 days I've been giving it some serious effort. By that I mean
staking the area out for 2 or 3 hours at a time killing every possible
place holder in his spawn area. Now, the messed up part: I've seen Ravage
not once, not twice, but THREE god forsaken times in 4 days... and I have
not seen so much as the tiniest little glimpse of Spiteflayer in OVER A
YEAR.
Sucks... but I'm gonna keep at it! You better believe it. IMO this could be
the best and most versatile pet in the game. I've put everything on hold
until he is MINE. Could take a week but she will be mine. Oh yes, she will
be mine.

Elites have the same stats as regular tames (AC, HP, DPS, ect), the only difference is that some creatures (elites or regulars) have different attack speeds. They do less damage per hit, so they have similar DPS to standard (2.0) attack speed pets.

After not having used my lvl50 orc hunter for a long time, i decided to level it to 52 and get this bird.

First i saw grunter so i tamed that piggy. But immidiately after that i saw spiteflayer and dumped the pig for the awesome bird. It was located slightly west of that guard tower (60,35).
It's just loyalty lvl 2 now but i love it already. I had dive 3 already and i gave it screech and growl. Shall i teach him bite or claw when i got enough training points?

btw I'm wondering if the rares in blasted lands spawn simultaniously or spawn each at a time.

Once upon a time in a world where Evil fights Evil, this determined hunter by the name of Modontinae was in search of a multipurpose pet. He first had his heart set on Deathmaw but that damn worg seemed to be a pain to camp for, plus alot of other hunters were looking for him. He then went out to search for another creature with the same attack speed as DM. And now.... after one day and several hours of getting raped by lvl 60 hordes and camping and-ISH he finally tamed this fine specimen... at 8:15pm Server time (Spinebreaker) at loc cords- 59,40. this cord is not actually his spawn point... im not sure where it is but he roams along the path of a black slayer that spawns at 58,45 and coasts along to 60,36 then turns around... i was posted up a mountain side (at 60,33) using eagle eye towards the Dark Portal area (the path that the lone Black Slayer flys on) using macro I locked on to Spiteflayer and ran to tame him.... which is at loc 59,40... with the great help of other's post messages this bird shouldnt be that hard to find and tame.... sorry for the damn long story. =]

Seriously, my mate just told me about what stats this guy has, 1.2 attack speed and can learn all five pet abilities. This has been said also on www.goodintentionsguild.com and being an elite beast would have supernatural abilities, health and AR.
Seriously, a fast attack, extra def and health, can learn everything, where could you go wrong?

Just tamed him in classic. Camped for 8 straight hours one day, never saw him. Came back the next day for another 3 hours and he finally spawned.

Sometimes I killed mobs, sometimes I didn't. The time he spawned was when I decided to clear the field. I do not believe he shares a spawn point with anything, as the mobs in the field were all up for a bit before I started clearing. Mobs were dead for about 1-2 minutes and I saw him flying towards me on a path no other mobs I've seen in the zone take. This leads me to believe he's on his own spawn cycle/path. He spawned @ or very close to 60,46 and began flying NW.

Spiteflayer is on a 12 hour spawn, not 8 hours.

I know this because I have spent the last 2 days camping him, and I had the following experience.

At 8pm on the first day, someone killed him before I could tame him. I know this because I was asking everyone in the zone to let me know if they see it, and this guy let me know he just killed it. Assuming an 8 hour spawn time as indicated in other comments, I logged back in at 0330 and stayed until 0500. Spiteflayer did not spawn.

The following day I began camping him around 2pm. By 10pm I was expecting him to spawn, however he did not spawn until approximately 1am. Yes I camped him for 11 hours, so that tells me its a 12 hours spawn.

He spawned at 57,44

Was really starting to think this was some kind of hoax, in current WoW classic. I had been looking for weeks at random times, hadn't seen hide nor hair... until...I saw his corpse. I just missed it.

It was kind of crushing to think I missed it by a couple of seconds, but at least now I had proof it's still in the game.

I can guarantee he is not on an 8 hour timer. After I saw the corpse, I set alarms on my phone. I checked every 8 hours, logging in a little before and staying a little late to give myself a window.

I believe the spawn timer is for "something" to spawn. When SF didn't spawn, I would ride around looking for anything else that might have. I kept running into Akubar the Seer. Akubar the Seer

Finally 1 day, and 8 hours later. I got Spiteflayer.

Yes it has 1.2 attack speed. I have a screen shot of that. Yes it can learn Claw, Bite, Dive, Screech, and Growl. However, the interface only allow 4 skills to be used. You also have to take into account pet Focus. You don't want Claw, because it completely drains the focus bar. You take Dive (which SF comes with), Bite, Growl and Screech. Screech is an AoE debuff, so it's easy to hold a group, as long as you don't multishot. It lowers the attack power, which in essence, makes your pet tougher.

After 2-3 days on/off camping Spiteflayer, I just got him. (Classic, Gandling EU)

I went a bit crazy last night and camped from 23:00-04:30 before I decided to get some sleep. I woke up at 06:00 and he wasn't there either. I woke up at 08:45 server time because someone in 2006 in the comments said he spawned at 09:07am server time for them. He didn't. I waited 'til 09:16am and decided to log out and go to the toilet.

I came back and logged in, and there he was at 09:22am server time (08:22am local time, British Summer Time), approx. 60,42 flying north along the same route as the Black Slayer. I nearly let him fly off into the distance thinking he was the patrolling Black Slayer. Caught up with him. Remembered to abandon my current pet first (a local Hyena I called Ed after the Lion King to help dissuade any passing enemies who might want to pick a fight with me last night), unlike yesterday when I went to tame Son of Hakkar for Lightning Breath 6 and didn't notice the game screaming "YOU HAVE A PET ALREADY" at me when I went to press Tame (and then it resisted my FD and killed me)...

Anyway, I was so nervous (and happy I'd remembered to abandon Ed) that I went and popped frost trap instead of freezing trap. Just as I tamed, an enemy 60 warrior ran past. PHEW.

Finally got the little bugger after a couple of days camping something that spawns in the middle of an endless farming zone.

A few notes based on the comments below:

I didn't see Ravage or Grunter during my camps, but I wasn't really looking, either.
I saw Akubar the Seeker once, at 06:00 the same morning I found Spiteflayer (3 hours earlier). He was just to the east of where the patrolling Black Slayer spawns
I camped him a lot yesterday (Sunday), and someone I whispered in the zone whilst I went elsewhere told me he'd seen and killed Spiteflayer approx. 18:00 local time (British Summer Time), approx. 19:00 server time. Slightly annoying as I'd logged only an hour earlier after 3hrs camping.
He didn't spawn at 17:10 and 01:10 server time as someone suggested, but did spawn around 09:15-09:20 server time as suggested (someone said 09:07am ST)
He didn't spawn between 00:00 - 05:30 server time (23:00 - 04:30 British Summer Time)
Although I did get bored and clear the spawn area (it can't hurt), and others were constantly passing through doing the same for quests, there were a lot of spawns present when I logged in and saw him, albeit the Black Slayer that people say is his place holder wasn't there. I don't believe he has a place holder per many comments on here.
If he did spawn at 06:00am this morning (approx. 12hours after that guy said he'd killed him), then he has a quick respawn to have appeared 3hrs later for me, so I don't believe it does have a 12 hour respawn (or a 3 hour respawn)
I don't know if its respawn is based on the time of its death, or a fixed value/time, and whether or not a fixed value/time is linked to Ravage and Grunter, also.
In all my time camping, I never saw his corpse, so if that guy who said he'd killed him wasn't lying to me, was fairly accurate with the time, and no one saw/killed him since (I wasn't there from 17:00 - 23:00 local time, he was allegedly killed around 18:00 local time), then his respawn time for me was approx. 15.25 hours.
