The journey through Season of Discovery culminates with Phase 8 beginning on April 8!

It was mentioned that Naxx was the "final phase" in our presentation for that. At the time, it was our intention for Naxx to be the final "full" phase and that whatever else we wanted to tackle would be sort of phase 7.1 or 7.5 but not phase 8. Since then, the team came together and between how much fun we had and are having with building Karazhan Crypts and Scarlet Enclave we are all-in on a really great, really robust phase 8.

Still amuses me that people look at the bare minimum effort Blizz put into SoD, copypasting tons of things all over the place and throwing random things into the game without thinking about them at all (incursions, heat levels in MC, etc) gradually turning the game more and more into retail instead of the "vanilla with changes" that it was originally pitched as

and they look at all of this and think "hm yes I want THIS dev team to make the REAL classic+"

like

is it just stockholm syndrome or what?

they could technically do a BC version...

I've tried to tell people this, because on a platform where text is our only viable communication; words, grammar, and spelling matter.

This will be the last major phase for Season of Discovery and for probably good reason. Now with Blizzcon on the horizon, some major developments across all Blizzard titles, they need to free up team resources to focus heavily on all of the things to come.

So, don't fret, just because its the major end to something you enjoy, doesn't mean something better won't come along.

This, nailed it.

They have other priorities they must attend to in the form of Classic: Mists of Pandaria, Classic: 20th Anniversary Realms being upgraded to the TBC/level 70 content AND they need to free ressources up so "something can come along" and that is Season of Whatever is next in a year or two.

Not even mentioning they have the base retail game they must handle too at the same time, they also must be focusing on whatever is coming next AFTER Classic: Mists of Pandaria, as in, "Does the community REALLY want/need a Classic: Warlords of Draenor release? (think again)" and they have Blizzcon they must take of, not to mention again other games universes/franchises they have under their belt.

Season of Discovery has to go, attempting to do a SoD TBC is actually doing us gamers a disservice on the long run. Players need to think out of the box.

Honestly, keep going blizz, this is as close to classic+ as we have ever gotten.
If not, I'm hoping for a merge with TBC fresh later on ^^ SOD Era would be way too niche imho.

Which would be a huge disservice to fans of the World of Warcraft Classic sub-franchise on the long run.

Think bigger.

World of Warcraft Classic: Warlords of Draenor? (Do we even want that? Yikes).
World of Warcraft Classic: A third new Season of Whatever?
World of Warcraft Classic: 20th Anniversary Wrath of the Lich King in mid 2027? (Are we ready to go back to Northrend once again?).

Think next.

End it so these poor people can go touch grass and caress their wives

Merge to TBC on the 20th Anniversary Realms makes so much sense at this point:

1) The SoD players want TBC content? They'll get it on the 20th Anniversary realms the same time we do (minus the crazy runes changes, just compensate players with gold in their mailbox).

2) SoD players maximum player level is 60? So it is too on the 20th Anniversary realms, they'll blend just right in.

2) SoD realms are one huge game type server per region at this point? So are the 20th Anniversary realms. It's not rocket science makes the merge even easier.

Crusader Strike (PvP) -> Nightslayer (PvP).
Living Flame (PvP) -> Nightslayer (PvP).
Lone Wolf (PvP) -> Nightslayer (PvP).
Shadowstrike (AU) (PvP) -> Maladath (AU) (PvP).
Penance (AU) (Normal) -> Maladath (AU) (PvP).
Wild Growth (AU) (Normal) -> Maladath (AU) (PvP).
Chaos Bolt (RPPVP) (Locked) -> Dreamscythe (Normal).
Lava Lash (RP) (Locked) -> Dreamscythe (Normal).

Problem fixed.

Shut it down, Season of Discovery is an abomination.

"the things I don't like are an abomination" man, you must hate that people have fun in different ways that you do.

End of SoD for me personally might as well mean the end of Classic as a whole. I don't have the time to keep up with Classic and all the chores max level involves, and the accelerated pace of SoD allowed me to scratch that Classic itch in a more experimental way. I had my fun with Classic in both 2004 and 2019, and I don't see myself wanting to enjoy a minimally changed version of it for a 3rd or 4th or 5th times.(##RESPBREAK##)272##DELIM##Neryssa##DELIM##

I really hope SoD isn't over, I am also really enjoying playing it. Cata classic wore itself thin during ICC and my guild died a couple of months ago. I tried retail, but as a noob there is such a learning curve and it's hard to find and maintain that social aspect when guilds just care about active member numbers.

SoD is the only WoW I play. I was thinking the other night SoD TBC would be a blast.

Comment by HeavyYeti

If they let me keep EVERYTHING I earned in SoD, the appearances of stuff like the hunter bow, Ashbringer, etc, and transfer it over to my retail account.....i'd play nothing else. Let them close SoD, but let us keep the stuff we earned somehow. Cosmetics are the BEST way to do this. And before "Oh NOWR I EARNED FOR realZ back in 200X", shut up. No one cares. The work is the work. Why does doing it now make different than doing it then? It's literally the exact same thing.

Yup, when SOD dies I quit wow. Girlfriend is quitting too. They have us if they keep making content, they kill it and I’m finally done. I’m okay with either.

Comment by Hardstylehunter8

I am fine with this being the final phase of SoD Vanilla. However I would like to see Blizzard release aD fresh without the leveling raids. Instead, they could give us 2-3 months of raids from MC to Scarlet Enclave. This would allow Blizzard time to work on new future content such as a possible Uldum mega, before releasing SoD T. Since Blizzard will need more time to work on SoD TBC due to its complexity, this should give them 18-24 months get TBC up and running.

"Kill the SoD and let the Classic+ be born." is my takeaway of the ending of SoD haha

Comment by SavageStrix

Such a mistake to end SoD, they could easily continue into TBC and rake in plenty of money to justify it.

Comment by gleepottz

season discovery tbc sound good idea with lore explanations and more

this kinda defeats the purpose of sod and classic+

Comment by Superbiia

I think they're dangling both possibilities as indeed they did with Phase 7, and then they will make the call based on the popularity of the phase.

If people come storming back to SoD because finally a Scarlet raid in a vanilla setting then we might get a Phase 9. If it doesn't really draw a crowd we will likely be put out on the pasture and get the Era treatment.

Comment by Huntlulz

That would never happened in million lifetimes. It would kill any potential of rare items if i can just get them transfered to retail.

Precisely.

Such a mistake to end SoD, they could easily continue into TBC and rake in plenty of money to justify it.

If that is a mistake to end Season of Discovery, using the same logic, would you say it was a mistake to end Season of Mastery too? Guess not? Double standards much?

Besides you ARE getting TBC again in the form of the 20th Anniversary realms and it's not too late to jump on the bandwagon, plenty of room for everyone (assuming you don't roll Mage/Warrior/Rogue).

Remember at the end of the day, when you started playing on your SoD server, that server was listed in a tab called "Seasonal" for a reason.

Guess what? That season is coming to an end, time to wrap it up and move so they can batch up the next Season of Whatever it will be, that or Classic+.

Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened. ~~Dr. Seuss.

Comment by Shahaman95

What is the point of keeping this server? Leveling which is a backbone of Vanilla WoW is obsolete in SoD. SoD became basically about raids and nothing else (farming reps and grinding other thingd also became very simplified)

It is a seasonal server jsut like SoM. Better starts thinking about next Seasonal server
