I'm currently using this dagger on my offhand. Lobo on my main hand. I don't see the proc all that often unfortunately.

Speed ***does*** matter when determining ambush/BS (or SS, even) damage. The reason is that your attack power gives you a DPS bonus. Let me say that again; your attack power gives you a damage-per-second bonus, not a straight damage bonus. Easy math example: assume your attack power gives you a 20 DPS bonus. To give a 20 DPS bonus to a 1.00 speed weapon, clearly your attack power must add 20 damage to each swing. To give the same 20 DPS bonus to a 2.00 speed weapon, your attack power must add 40 damage per swing. Clear?

Now, since Ambush, BS, and SS are all based off the damage one swing of your weapon would do *after attack power bonus*, a slower weapon will be better, since it receives more of a bonus from attack power. In the example above, the 2.00 speed weapon will have 20 more damage on a BS before the multipliers due to its speed. So given a choice between two weapons with the same damage range, but one has a slower speed, the slower speed one will do better!

Clearly, however, the damage ranges also vary from weapon to weapon as well as speed, which complicates the issue. Given that weapons tend to be ranked by DPS, slower weapons tend to have larger/higher damage ranges to provide approximately the same DPS as faster weapons. So for low attack power values, you might do almost as well with a higher DPS, faster weapon, as with a lower DPS, slower weapon. As your attack power grows, however, the slower weapon will receive more and more of a bonus.

Hopefully all of this explains why with reasonable (say 650 or so) attack power, the Barman is the best choice based purely on Ambush/BS damage, even though there are much higher DPS weapons out there. I also hope it helps illustrate why *speed matters*, even for instant attacks. Clearly other factors go into choosing a weapon besides Ambush/BS damage, and for many the proc of Barman is a large downside to it.

after the new 1.8 patch the keris will beat the hell out of the shanker, as the shanker is getting a serious nerf. but i find it really gay that they are nerfing the shanker cause proably 75% of ambush specced (non mc) rogues are equipping the shanker.

dropped on first stealth run but i got overrolled by a rogue who already owns a heartseeker. second run, it dropped again and i won. i used it for quite a time and since i put on a +4 dmg enchant Ambush ans BS were quite nice. but by the time, especially when farming at tyrs hand i really got sick of the ^&*!in proc that breaks gouge and blind. to those who are going to get this: be warned. it proccs pretty often, sometimes even 2-3 times a fight. so i farmed my ass of to get a hearseeker, which i am currently using. it also has a +4 dmg enchant but i notice slightly lower BS/AS hits and crits...maybe it�s just fancy or whatever. however, the heartseeker is the best mainhand dagger before epics and alterac rewards and even then it still makes a nice offhand dagger.

if youre a pve rogue with BS specc, you can definitely use this one over any blue dagger but if youre a a 1on1 pvper you should really get the heartseeker instead, just because of the stats.

After using this for a substantial amount of time, it pretty much sealed its fate with that damned proc. Dunno how bad the % of it happening is, but its gotta be worse then the proc on the barman..

Well after closer review I realized that the fang of the crystal spider affects casting speed, ranged attack speed and melee attack speed while this affects only attack speed (perhaps even melee only). If you have both take the fang of the crystal spider over this. Theres no way it procs so much more to make it worth it. If you have neither and want either one, Crystal Fang is a rarespawn while Voone is not so enjoy :)

Im PvE specced (30/21/0) and I use this thing in offhand with Barman in main-hand .. hits a tad higher so Im not compaining :)

i was in LBRS it was like midnight and my comp starts bugging out with all this lagg i got Disconnected and i decided to stay off... BAD IDEA! this dropped and the other rogue got it cuz i wasnt there

Here is a picture of a buddy of my using it. He has weapon dmg. +4 on it so it's a bit hard to see, but you get the idea.

The proc on this weapon is really poor, and it knocks off gouge. This is utterly useless as an off-hand weapon, because it procs maybe once every 20 mobs. My guess, is its about 2-5% proc.

It IS a good backstabbing dagger, even better than the Heartseeker. The effect isnt noticable at all though, and is annoying when it breaks gouge, sheep or blind.

Maybe a bad dagger for a rogue, but it's very nice for a warlock - I just got it today, upgrading from the Gut Ripper. (Granted, by rarity it was a downgrade from purple to green ... but by DPS and coolness factor? I like a lot.
