Okay. Levels for smelting and mining are not exactly the same. Almost, but not quite.

For example, 'Smelting' shows copper going yellow at 25, but it doesn't actually state that it can be mined at level 1+. Also, it shows that thorium can be smelted at 250, but doesn't show that thorium veins can be mined at 245+.

But it is important to note that at early levels (haven't confirmed which level, but I think Fel Iron) you can increase your mining skill by smelting ore until it turns grey.
So, for instance, at level 1 mining, you could purchase 50x Copper Ore, smelt it and increase your mining level without even having seen a mineral vein. This can drastically reduce the actual time spent mining to level.

So, here is a list that shows what level of mining is actually required to mine a particular vein or deposit.

Does mining skill actually increase the number of hits an ore can give? I've been getting 1 thorium from small thorium veins at 260 and a guildie says they get 3-4 hits at 310.
