Also, don't forget that it is doable with other priests in the party. For example, one priest would be moving to heal the peasants as they walk their way towards the safe zone while the other # of priests will stand at whatever location they please to heal the incoming peasants that walk to the exit. The priest that is only able to move is the one who started the quest.

The spawn timer was reduced by a significant amount, presumably to around 10 minutes now. I'm not sure on this, though.

You NEED the EoD, it was changed a patch or two ago. While I can't find it mentioned specifically but was probably stealth nerfed in 1.11.2 when they fixed another issues with Spectral Essence: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/patchnotes/patch1p11.html as I couldn't see them with my Spectral Essence equipped.

The quest is fairly easy to do. I recommend failing it once so you get a feel for what's going on. It's basically a more complicated version of the triage quest you did to get your bandaging up.

There are several methods that are available online for how to complete this quest, but let me say what worked for me:
1) 60 Feral Druid in bear form at the cave entrance who was kind enough to go /afk there while he made dinner
2) In order: Full rank renew on purples, abolish greens, ~half rank renew on injured.
3) If your bear form druid friend is taking significant damage, through him a heal or full rank renew.

When the skeletons attack you, there are significantly fewer arrows flying through the air. By leaving the bear at the entryway, he will pick up all of the skeletons and keep them for quite a while making keeping up the peasants significantly easier.

Using this method, I blew 1 mana potion and the Mar'li's Eye. I was in all 5-man blues, except for 1 piece of prophecy and my wonderful green gloves (and Mar'li's Eye... and the friendly ring of the Bronze Dragonflight)

Few things that helped me complete the quest on my 1st try.

1) Get tinytip: an addon that allows you to see the health bars when you scroll your mouse over the peasants. For some reason you can'y use V, shift-V, or control-V to see the health bars anymore. I've read Dev's posts that say the will address it in an upcoming patch, but they haven't yet.
2) Oil of Immolation: there's no cooldown & with these the Skellies go down quick.
3) Holy Nova rank 3: in case you run out of Oil of Im, but it drains much needed mana. Mana conservation was the toughest part for me
4) Renew Rank 5, Flash heal Rank 4: You don't need full ranks for peasants they don't have much health
5) Well placed PychScream: If you get overwhelmed by Skellies & you need mana for peasant heals
6) Wand: Takes down single skellies in 1 hit usually
7) Respawn of quest NPC, if you fail, is much quicker now : used to be over an hour. Now it's no more than 30mins.
8) Net videos of the quest: found lots of great ones
9) Cure 1st Heal 2nd: Make sure you cure the peasants 1st, then heal. The diseases they get will wipe them out quick.
10) Peasants will die: Don't worry if you loose 1 or 2 in each group.
11) Have a couple mana potions & use the 1st one as soon as your mana is @ 50%: That way your cooldown will be up when/if you run out of mana

Okay, first, I used only four spells. Holy Nova Rank 6 for the skellies, Flash Heal Rank 4, and Renew Ranks 9 and 6.

The Peasants: You cannot use the "V" key to see their health bars. I tried this every which way. Instead, I use the AF Tool Tip mod. This brings the tooltip (with hp) to your mouse pointer, so you can scan across the wave of peasants and see their health without moving your eyes to the lower right corner. The gauntlet of skeletal archers tend to focus on 1-3 targets, and you can see their arrows sticking out so that helps you decide who to heal as well. Begin healing with Renew unless the peasant is very close to death. Use Renew 9 if they're getting beat up a lot/diseased, especially if they are members of a "fresh" wave. Use Rank 6 renew for "stale" peasants who are diseased or hurt. I used Flash Heal only if they were very low (followed up with a Renew 9) or if they were being fired out by lots of archers and diseased, etc. I think I used disease cure only twice out of nervousness, so I'm sure it's not very necessary. Use your best judgement once you get a feel for the event.

The skeletons: I used Crystal Charge, made from the red and yellow power crystals in Un'Goro crater. I didn't use Oil of Immolation because I wasn't sure if they were on the same cooldown as Major Mana Potions, so I didn't risk it. When they are grouped up, a crystal charge or holy nova is great. When my cooldown for the Crystal Charge (1 min) was still going down, I was forced to use Holy Nova. I used Rank 6, but Rank 5 MIGHT work. Wanding is key. It took usually 1, sometimes 2 hits from my Bonecreeper Stylus (which is why I say that Holy Nova Rank 5 just might do enough damage). This works especially great if you can see a lone skelly running down to you and the overall health of the peasant wave is good and you can just wand him as he comes. Resists stink, and sometimes you have to let a skelly wail on you while you throw some renews around.

Extras: I used 3-4 Major Mana Potions, I honestly can't remember. Use them early, so the cooldown ticks while you fight. I also used Lesser Mana Oil (8mp5) on my weapon. I'm sure some Nightfin Soup (8mp5) would be a big help as well. I didn't use Demonic or Dark Runes, but I'm sure those would help too.

Just did this quest with 3 priests. As long as everyone has the Eye of Divinity and are all ready to do this quest (There is one before it from the same person but you just have to talk to her again to complete it). Just assign one of the priests to be running around healing the pesants, removing disease, killing the skellies, etc.. while the extra priests sit on the quest giver and do NOT move. They can heal the pesants as well but you will fail if any of the priests heal eachother. Very, very easy this way and it gets 3 people thier staves much faster then waiting the extra 4 hours.

My priest finished his Benediction quest yesterday (2/22/06) with ease after struggling a bit with the quest. Here are a few tips, including a few not mentioned in previous posts that turned this quest from frustrating and difficult into easy as pie.

1) Bring a druid friend and have them cast thorns on all party members just before you begin. Being able to have your passive aggro group members deal damage is a huge plus.

2) Take a trip into Stratholme and collect at least 5 holy waters. Bring more if you want some insurance for another run. OR Bring some bombs if you're an engineer. Basically, you want something that does an AoE blast for about 400 damage on a short cooldown. Holy water has a shorter cooldown than engineering gear, but go with whichever is available to you.

3) Bring 10-20 Oils of Immolation.

4) Do a dry run or watch a vid so you know what to expect. The biggest problem I had was not getting back to the spawn point for the next group early enough. My first few tries (totally solo) went poorly because I stayed with the group I was currently healing too long, the next one spawned, and I wouldn't get the purple-diseased peasants cured in time and I'd lose a few too many to the skele's. While it can be distracting that a bunch of peasants will get the green disease as they near the quest giver, don't worry too much about them. Toss a renew or remove the disease on a few if they have low health and just forget about them. Losing 1 to a green disease is far better than losing 4 or more to the skeletons and purple disease in the next wave. When I focused better on positioning myself for the next wave and letting the current wave continue on towards the light, I did extremely well... to the point where I could finally see how the quest "could" be done solo, especially with some potions.

Still, to make things easier, I did the quest with two friends at the cave entrance: a bear-form feral-geared druid and a hunter with his pet on passive. Since all had thorns, they did a nice amount of damage and aggro-holding while I concentrated on healing and removing diseases.

Whenever I noticed a crowd of skele's whittling down my party's health, I tossed a Holy water at them. This instantly killed the skele's and allowed my "target dummies" to survive the entire fight (except for the hunter's pet... he used a cat instead of his more-AC-than-some-60-Warriors pet).

Whenever I didn't get all the skele's with the holy water or if it was on cooldown, I just popped an oil of immolation and shielded if I needed to do so. Using this method, I don't think I lost 2/3 of my mana or health for the duration of the quest.

Note: This quest has little-to-nothing to do with your skills as a priest. Think of it as a test in micromanagement without being able to have a useful interface.

If you're like me and you never really used the health bars above the heads of mobs (v key), then you might want to turn it on for a while to get used to how the healthbars jump around in a crowd. Or, go into the battlegrounds and don't use your party/raid interface... work on healing without it. If you can do that well at all, you'll do this quest just fine, since that is what is really being tested here.

I only used Renew - Rank 8, Abolish Disease, and PowerWord:Shield - Rank 8 for the entire quest. I didn't use any health or mana potions.

on my third attempt i died on the last wave of peasants. i was so steaming mad because i got that close and died i was about to log out when a pally nearby started to rez me it said "quest completed". remember you can still die, as long as the right amount of peasants cross the line, or 15 dont die. my problem was i ran out of immolation oils on the last wave of skeles

I have done this quest at the 6th try. First 1-3 tries was not serious. One time I fall down from the hill and failed :) Because I am lazy I did the quest without oil of immolation and also without buffs (horde killed me at chillwind point so i have lost my arcane intellect buff) only fortitude and divine spirit. I have used 2 major mana potions, second wind trinket, rank 3 holy nova, rank 5 flash heal, rank 7 renew, abolish disease. Used fear to let more skeletons attack me at the same time later and nuke them with a single holy nova. There can be 2 different types of disease on peasants. The blue one much more dangerous, must dispell asap. My friend watched how I do the quest and he always told me when a peasant got disease therefore I was able to concentrate on their HP. It is also important to not escort the pesants all the way because the new wave of peasant will be killed by the blue disease and skeletons. Before trying to select peasants to dispell disease turn off their hp bar. Much easier to select the diseased ones like this. After the quest I went to winterspring to farm eye of the shadow and approx the 8th (lvl60)Hedarine Initaite or something like this dropped the Eye of the shadow. Now I am a happy dwarf priest :)

just finished the quest. i failed it about 6 times and then finally another priest logged on in the same area to do the quest. she healed/cured the peasants by the cave and i stood still on top of the npc and healed the peasants that past her. we only let about 4 die. its much easier when there's 2 people! just remember that only one of you can move. the other priest must remain absolutely still on top of the npc. as stated before, both people must have the eye of divinity equipped in order to see the quest giver, the peasants and the ud mobs.

its possible for both of you to accept the quest. if for some reason the 2nd person isn't able to get it from the quest-giver, the 1st person should just share the quest and you guys will be good to go. good luck!

After waiting so long for my eye of divinity and eye of shadow, I was relieved that this quest wasn't as hard as I thought. Reading the posts on this page helped immensely. Thanks to all that took the time to post. I failed on my first attempt because I wasn't used to healing targets who's health bars were moving and jumping around. I was also a bit nervous and shakey. Being calm and relaxed while doing this quest is a HUGE plus. On my second attempt I was fully buffed up at IF then headed out to EPL. On the road to Stratholme I got destroyed by the freaking crimson courier, so all my buffs were gone. The event is on a 2 hour timer and I knew that I had failed it 1 hour and 50 minutes ago. I wanted to make sure that I was there when the quest giver spawned, so I decided to not to go back to IF to rebuff. To my surprise I completed the quest with only Power Word Fortitude and inner fire. My unbuffed mana pool is 7400. I used 2 Major Mana pots and had absolutely no problem going OOM. I also used about 12 immolation oils, and had my mechanical yetti fighting at my side. I used only renew rank 8 and flash heal rank 6 for the entire event. It was ALOT of fun, and now I have a shiny new staff! =)

First of all, I used the spells flash heal and renew 2 ranks below highest. I also used 2 mana pots and 10 oil of immolation.

What I did was that I changed the key binding so when I pressed TAB I switched friendly targets. That way it was faster and easier to see the ones with the plague. I mainly used renew on those above 40 % and flash on those below.
I think maybe 8-10 peasants died during my try.
I also got a mod that made me move the unit frames down to the bottom where I could easily see them.

Did it in my 2nd try.

and i wanted to give you my "expertise". I wanted to do this quest alone so i tried it with my "ordinary" gear on me and no buff/help other than what i use normally (inner fire and fortitude + some food buff and ungoro crystal buff).

i did 15 tries without oil of immolation (I was using various bombs and other gadgets) and i just couldn't handle all the skeletons (i kept dying).

I gave up. I went back to town, grabbed herbs, asked an alchemist friend to make "oil of immolation" for me and went for a 16th try. Did it easily with very few peasants dying.

So, my advice is : go try it without anything to "get the hang of it". When you fell comfortable, go to town and come back 2 hours later later with 20 oil of immolation (i used 12). You'll succeed easily.

When I arrived at the site (20,18), I had the eye equiped but didn't see the quest giver. Figured someone must have gotten there within the last 2 hours and I'd have to wait. For the heck of it, I re-equiped the eye, and suddenly there she was with the quest. I know I wasn't mounted when I first equiped the eye, so not sure why this happened, but fyi.

Holy Nova being so early in the talent tree now (1.10) really makes this easy. Rank 4 one shots the skelies. I used 5 oils, 2 easythrow dynamite, 1 major mana potion. Buffs were my own + 2 potions (intelligence and armor prot).

About 1/3 of the way thru the fight you'll feel a little panicky with so much going on. Take a deep breath, renew your target, holy nova when you get nervous, and you'll be fine.

First try today, failed it.
Mostly because the health bars over the heads was jumping around all the time, extremely annoying.

well i brought 10 oil of immolution, 2 major mana pots, and 2 demonic runes to do the quest with. i completed on 2nd attempt and, i also had AI buff, MOTW buff, Spirit and Stamina Buff, Mageblood potion ( 12 mana every 5 sec).

However. useful spells:
Flasheal (rank 5)
Cure Disease
Renew (rank 7)
PW:S (rank 10)

Dont waste time healing yourself.. use Renew..

I did this alone.

Cleanse peasents fast, the purple-diseased ones will die pretty fast if you dont take care of them.. give them 1 cure, and 1 renew and forget about them. Also when 1 wave has reached the quest npc. throw a renew on the ones on low hp and forget about them. cause if you dont, the new wave with new purple diseased peasants will die.

before my attempts i watched some movies on www.warcraftmovies.com and read a guide from www.wowhealers.com to see what i could expect.

biggest problem was to target the peasants. i used the "v" key and had their health bars shown over their heads.

I have the eye equipped and still can't see the quest giver...

I'm at the correct coords and I have been camped there looking for her for almost two weeks with no luck.

Is there ANYTHING AT ALL that I could have done to make the QG not appear?

got this on my first attempt!

used:

+25 int pot
+250 armour pot
12 imo pots
1 mana pot
1 hp pot
1 demonic rune
desperate prayer
and LIGHTWELL 2 charges of it

I'm a pretty gimpy priest with only blues and, clearly, a strange talent spec and i still managed to pull through.

* yeti didnt seem to help out much, imo pots should be enuf to kill off the skellies

Just completed this quest using no buffs other than my own (Fort, Spirit, Inner Fire) and one superior mana pot. That wasn�t my plan; I had basically been doing attempts with no outside buffs/consumables to get to know the event before wasting time and money.

My first few attempts I either let myself die (dumb) or let too many NPCs die, never making it past wave 3 (of 5, I think). The suggestions by other posters above are all good; here are a few twists that worked for me:

- Used no Oil of Immolation, instead Holy Nova rank 3 to kill the skeletons; but waited until I had 8 or more on me, so it was very mana efficient. In order to get that many together at once I�d fear when possible, shield, or just keep moving. They don�t hit very hard, but gotta be careful when you have a bunch on you, it adds up. My rank 3 nova would one shot them all, plus heal me a bit.

- Was better about healing myself. Kept top rank renew on at all times, and when I dropped below 25%, would use greater heal (avoided flash healing myself, not a mana efficient). I think I GHed myself twice.

- Ran back to the next �NPC wave� sooner. I think the biggest issue I had was staying with a wave too long. Once they get to the quest giver, renew any below 50%, and just forget them and run back to meet the next wave. There�s usually 3-4 in the next wave that have the really bad purple disease, and if you�re not there quick, you�ll probably never even see them.

-Ignored the quest giver heal. She�ll heal you somewhat, and give you some mana back (I�m told) if you get close to her. But from what I could see checking the combat log after failed attempts, it�s not worth much; looks like a very low rank renew. In prior attempts I wasted time trying to run close to her with each wave, and I just don�t think it�s worth much. If you get one, great, but I wouldn�t give it any thought.

Used on the NPCs:
Flasheal (rank 4)
Abolish Disease
Renew (rank 8)
Holy Nova (rank 3)

Used top rank Renew and Greater Heal on myself, but only used them when I was damaged enough to get the full effect.

I was surprised to complete the quest with basically no outside buffs/consumables. I figured I was going to run the event �naked� until I felt I was failing due to running out of mana, vs. letting myself or too many NPCs die while I still had mana left. Pots/buffs won�t help much with those problems if you don�t have the fundamental strat down pat. I think this was probably my 6th attempt or so. I�m a Holy/Disc priest, 4/8 Tier 1 with random blues/epics in the other slots.

One other thing, there is a tree roughly on the opposite side of the path from the quest giver, that will show a hanging body for each NPC that dies. It�s up atop a rather high hill, so hard to see if you don�t look for it. I would give it a quick glance as I left one wave to run back to the next. Just gives you a rough idea how it�s going; not like there�s time to stop and count. I really wish there were a counter or something, annoying you have no idea how many have died or been saved.

It can be a hard quest, but doable with some persistence. Some guys get this quest the first time, others take a lot of tries. Like someone else said, it really has nothing to do with how good a priest you are, this quest is nothing like healing you�re going to be doing in any instance. I�m very accustomed to being main healer in everything from MC through 5-man instances, and this is just totally different. This event is all about finding the NPCs that need heals the most, without a decent interface to do that; about mana efficiency second; and about managing lots of little hostiles beating on you third. Besides the mana efficiency, not typically things priests have to worry about.

Hello, what id like to share my experience with the quest and post some tips.
First of all, i failed couple of times, first expecting it to be a piece of cake, and later cus of the lack of focus!
here is how i did it:

Build: 32/19/0
Mana pool: 7000 aprox, unbuffed that is.
Mana per 5sec: 30 aprox
Failed attempts: 4
Buffs used: Thorns, Inner Fire, PW: Fortitude, Spirit.
Oil of Immolation: 15
Greater Mana pots: yes greater - 4;)

DO THINGS:

1. Waste Oils as they were conjured, everytime skeletons come.. Drink up!
2. Use Rank 7 Renew and Abolish Poison, nothing else.. you can test it for urself, but i wont recomend it!
3. Run BACK as soon as wave of peasants reaches the quest giver, but look at their hp and use common sence, meaning heal if really badly injured or diseased with less than 70% hp!
4. Healing urself shouldnt be a problem, i shielded up when getting near 20%, got my farmers to the NPC and threw in a greater, this way i had time to run back before next wave started dieing!
5. BLUE DISEASE > GREEN DISEASE > PHYSICAL DMG! Use this prio ranks
6. Run back to meet next wave as soon as you can, FIRST PEASANTS WILL BE DISEASED WITH BAD DIESEASE WHICH IS BLUE/PURPLE, heal them FIRST and asap!
7. Download http://www.curse-gaming.com/en/wow/addons-3689-1-priest-quest-v110.html It will cast Renew/Abolish Disease, if peasant needs it when u target it. It DOES NOT WORK 100%, so keep an eye and cast what u think is needed!
8. PRESS V TO SEE HEALTH BARS, DONT EVEN TRY W/O

This might seem like a lot to remember but its not, you should get it after couple of attempts..

Well. i finished this quest yesterday.

I got the Eye of Divinity the day before that and omg did i try alot of times

its a very hard quest.

But once you try a few times you get the hang of it.

The Tecnique i used was Bring a Paladin with you in this case it was my boyfriend.

and have him stand infront of the cave with retrobution Aura on. OBS! Do not be grouped. if you are you will DIE in one second.

i used rank 3 Renew & rank 3 holy nova.
try to move around alot and be very fast with casting cleanse desease & Renew on Purple & Green deseases they will die quickest

have alot of Patience & take a big breath before accepting the quest It will run smooth

After getting myself all buffed up I mounted up and started riding towards the quest point. Paying as much attention as you do while riding on the road, I crashed straight into the scarlet pat. Seeing that I had already changed all my hotkeys in preparation for the quest my chances of surviving there pounding with rank 5 renew and rank 4 flash were slim. So after a quick run back to my body I thought I would give the quest a go anyway. I buffed myself with +imp fort, +spirit and imp innerfire filled, my mana (but 6300) and begun the quest. I didn�t use any other players as target dummies, and found it only necessary to pop 1 x combat mana pot. The way I found best was to stand in the middle, btw the cave where they spawn from and the priestess, with holy reach I had no probs getting heals to them. The �v� trick didn�t work for me �even after cheeking my key bindings. The way I found best was to assign hot keys to 1- renew
2- flash heal
3- abolish Disease
4- Oil of whatever
5- PW shield (for you)
6- renew Rank 9 (for you)

Stand in the middle and use your �target next friendly� �shift + tab for me- and the necessary hotkey making sure you keep renew on yourself and shield when needed. Standing in the middle I also found the priestess ( quest giver) healed me. I finished the quest with mana to spare and now have a nice new toy to play with�

I�m going to reinforce a lot of what�s been said already, but also provide my observations, what you really should be using to complete this quest, some information about my gear/stats, and reinforce how manageable this is to do without help. It�s not easy, but not nearly as overwhelming as it first appears

First off, know that Oil of Immolation is complete trash. Don�t even contemplate using it. You will be AOEing skeletons down like a mage with only one Rank 3 Holy Nova. I repeat, this spell will one shot every skeleton within range. Let 5 or more collect on you and then AOE. If you nova but missed one, just shield and let them collect on you for the next 30 seconds or so. As soon as they eat through your shield, drop all of them. You�ll be surprised how much time you�ll spend not being attacked and able to concentrate on your heals if you do your best to maximize the amount of skeletons killed per Nova. With Oil of Immolation you have to worry about your health, skeleton adds constantly swarming you, and getting your heals interrupted. With the AOE you will cast it once and clear the screen. I would guess I killed about 2-3 of these skeleton packs per wave, instead of getting swarmed and waiting for them to take damage from oil. If you�ve seen the video you know what I�m talking about. Personally I made managing skeletons my priority so once I wiped a cluster I could concentrate on heals.

Second, Decursing is your priority- purple then green. Throw a Renew on anyone that has been cursed. There, I�ve just explained 80% of this test. Personally I used rank 6 renew. I can�t testify if that�s the most ideal rank, but it worked. All over this page people will advocate different ranks. Rank 6 is certainly high enough, but if you�re having mana issues try down-ranking. The cursed peasants will, for the most part, be the only peasants needing your attention. If none are cursed you should just wait for someone to drop below 50%. For the most part you wont need to throw heals on non-cursed peasants.

Renew is your best friend. I cast flash heal (rank 5) less than 5 times the entire encounter. Once you clear skeleton packs you will be surprised how little damage the peasants take from the arrows and you can fully concentrate on decursing and renewing those peasants. Renew is plenty of healing. It�s fairly easy to click through them, inspecting their health, giving priority to the ones who get diseased.

With that said, I would highly recommend downloading a mod called Tiny Tips.

It basically allows your tooltips to appear on whatever you mouse over. So you can see a peasant�s health by just mousing over them instead of clicking. This way you can quickly scan the group and see who�s taking the most damage (hint: usually the guys glowing or getting shot). With their health bars hidden you actually can see the animation which will be a good indication who should be getting heals. Regardless, you�ll be surprised how little healing they�ll actually need once the skeletons are off your rear.

As far as buffs go, I wouldn�t really stress out over them. The most important consumables are major mana pots. Use the first one early so you�ll have time to use another one at the end if you need. Personally, I was only self buffed, had MoTW, with Nightfin Soup and a Mageblood potion. No AI from a mage, or Paladin Blessings or Auras (although, if you could get a pally to give you a 15 minute blessing of wisdom, that would probably be a huge help if you�re struggling with mana). Mana regeneration is infinitely more useful than +healing (not helpful for renews and flash heals) so get your highest INT and +mana/5 gear. Honestly if you think you need more buffs/consumables you probably just need more practice, save your gold.

I was fairly well geared for this encounter, but not compared to a lot of people. I went in with 3k health, 5.5 mana, +41/5. Not amazing, but substantial

If you download Tiny Tip, Decurse /Renew in a timely fashion and Nova to maximize skeleton kills you�ll have a much easier stroll to Benediction. The respawn on the quest giver is apparently only 15 minutes now, so do a number of dry runs to calm your nerves and know what to expect. Good luck!

This quest is really easy, you just need the right potions and the correct technique.

Oil of Immolations you need like 25
Abolish disease when they turn purple and green
only greater heal when they are at 25% health or lower otherwise pop a renew on them to off-heal while your busy on other dudes.
Holy Nova(if your holy spec'd like me) on skeletons if you are out of oil of immolations or you dont have the skeleton's agro.

Just finished this quest by myself with the help of the siggestions here.

I used Oil of Immolation I had 12 (helps conserve mana)
Holy Nova Rank 2
Flash Heal Rank 4
Renew Rank 6
Flask of Distilled Wisdom (was worried about running out of mana)
Major Mana Pot 2
Abolish Disease

I failed the first couple of times until I realized I did not have to escort them all the way. I escorted them just to the NPC quest giver and made sure noone was diseased and ran back to next group. I also used a bird's eye view. It made it easier to pick the diseased from the crowd to cure. The last attempt was so easy I couldn't believe I finished. :)

The hardest thing for me was using the individual Abolish Disease. I am so spoiled with Decurse that it took some getting use to.

I did it with two mana pots, and four oils of immolation. BUT I DIED right at the end, but at the same moment, BONG Complete! Woot, that was close! So, release, run back, and finish the turn in right? WRONG. MISSION FAILED. If you finish this, but die at the end, DON'T release! Yell for someone to res you, or you'll end up doing it again and blowing way more pots :(

I am on a high population server, and it seems with the recent influx of eyes of shadow the NPC is always down... anyone have coordinates where the NPC is so I can be sure I'm in the right area?

Just did this quest and wanted to point out some things that might help others.

First off I found this quest to be 3 times easier with Holy Nova. I would strongly suggest respeccing (If you don't have it specced) and getting this spell, along with Inner Focus. Holy Nova costs a fair amount of mana and Inner Focus will give you 1 free casting of this without any mana used. I used Inner Focus on the first skeleton spawn so the timer could start. I wouldn't use Inner Focus on anything else, since all other spells you'll be using won't cost nearly as much mana.

Secondly, the crystals you can get from the pylons in Un'Goro are a huge help here. There is a quest you have to do to access them, but its not hard. The 3 best crystals to use are:
- Crystal Restore: Heals the target of 835-840 dmg over 15 sec.
- Crystal Spire: 12 point dmg shield
- Crystal Charge: AoE Fire dmg of 383-517 in a 3-yard radius
Each of these are on a seperate timer. Crystal Charge will kill the skeletons in one hit so VERY important to have. I used it twice during the fight.

Other buffs that are really useful:
- Flask of Infinite Wisdom: +2000 mana
- Smoked Sagefish: +3 mana every 5 seconds
- Elixir of Greater Intellect: +25 intellect (If you don't have a mage buff)

Also, if you have a warlock or paladin able to help, have the warlock station his imp in the center with passive on so you'll get the stamina buff. The paladin should stand on the rock where Eris spawns and have Aura of Retribution up. If you have a druid, thorns and paw.

Well. First of all. I think this quest is kinda stupid. It is NOT a test of your healing skill. If it is really so, player should be doing it nakedly and unbuffed. Getting a helper is not disgraceful the same as using tons of pots, especially Oil of Immolation.

I helped my friend did it last night and it was fun. I use my level 60 pally and put him as close to the start of the ghost run as possible and turn on my retribution aura. It helped HUGE. First, if they hit me, they die after hitting me for 5 times. It they hit the questing priest, they die after hitting once and getting novaed once.

We completed it with one dark rune, ONE immolation oil, one Major mana pot and a few crystals from Un'Goro, and, priest stam buff and pally wis buff.

And, yes, it took us a few times to finish it. The twist is that pally not always got the aggro and priest might have to pull them a bit.

Call me a last word freak, I don't understand why some people are so proud of using so many pots instead of using a helper.

Really good strategy for anyone that wants to complete this quest easily and effectively. It works as of 12/19/05 which is the date myself and 3 other priests tried doing it and succeded.

This is the best strategy IMO. Do it or not, Its alot easier than attempting it solo.

No one that is with you can move from their positions and im sure everyone has read that you can stand ontop of the rock where the quest giver is at and you wont fail and that is correct.

You may have a druid and a warlock inside the cave behind where the skeletons and peasants spawn, The reason behind the Druid and the warlock is because when the skeletons spawn the druid draws their agro keeping in mind that the only person that can be moving their character is the person that is doing the quest. The agro goes to the druid and he just takes the hits as well as the warlock and his minion. Make sure nobody moves. The druid can be in bear form to have more armor and resist more of the hits but he can also shift back to caster form and heal himself.

You may have 2-3 priests on the quest givers location. Those priests can Cure Disease on the peasants and heal them once they get in range and it will not ruin the quest..Once again just keep in mind they are not able to move..if they do The Cleaner will spawn and 1 hit you.

The person that accepts the quest has to from what everyone knows run up to the cave and start healing/curing the peasants but the other 2-3 priests on the rock where the quest giver is can take care of them once they are in range of them.

Once again the person which accepts the quest is the only person allowed to move their character.

If you happen to die for whatever reason thats when the druid comes in handy and the warlock. Druid can battle rez you, but before that you can easily get a Soulstone on yourself given to you from the warlock.

If you die a 3rd time...you can possibly get one of the 3 priests on the rock to resurrect you.

The priests that are helping cure and heal the peasants MUST HAVE the Eye Of Divinity Equiped...this way they get to see the peasants. Nobody can heal the person that accepts the quest except for himself. If one of the priests heals you...The Cleaner comes out and owns you.

Just keep in mind, the priests that are going to help cannot move from the rock and they can only heal/cure the peasants. Once you accept the quest they can ALSO accept it with you. But they arent allowed to move.

When I did it..we helped an alliance priest do the quest first...and when we saw the quest giver didnt De-Spawn we easily Mind Controlled the priest and asked him to help us. Yes when you start the quest you become pvp enabled (im on a normal server) But you can mind control him and type /me "text in here" and they will be allowed to see it. So we helped him...then I MC'd him and asked him to stay and he did..Just make sure nobody moves.

It worked out fine and we had 3 UD priests complete the quest this way... At the same time! Really effective and easy

Just do bring your Whipper Roots and Nightbreath's, Health Potions, Mana potions and definatly Oil Of Immolations.

No body can move.

That is all. Hope this works for future priests.

I just finished this quest on my second attempt. Holy Nova rank 2 will kill most of the skeletons if you have any + damage gear. I had about +170 damage/healing and would easily one shot all the skeles.

Also, i'm sure someone said it here, but focus on curing the diseases first before healing.

No Helpers, No Secondary Priest. I made sure to loop past the quest giver every time I'd completed an escort for a wave of peasents, though I didn't really need the heals due to my holy nova. I drank my second Major Mana pot right before I got the 'complete' message, so I could've easily gone without. I completed it on my third try, first time was just to get a feel for the quest, but I'd almost done it then anyway. Second time someone ran through and spawned the cleanser.

When you start to get a little panicky, just take a deep breath and keep on going. Keep an eye on your own health and you're good to go!

I recently did the quest and i like to give a little advise on how i pulled it off.

First i'd like to say i did have the eye of diviniy, but during the fight i used the spectral essence from scholomace, and yes it had the exact same effect.

I just did this on my 5th try. My gear is 2 pieces of prophecy and the rest is strat/scholo/etc. blues. I was able to solo it without even having any buffs from other people.

This is what I learned:
The Oil of Immolation is absolutely key to not wasting mana. Also bring stratholme holy water as it kills all the skeletons instantly, which saved my life towards the end when you start to run out of health and mana.

The spells I used:
rank 9 renew on myself, rank 7 renew on the citizens, abolish disease, thats all, and I shielded myself once when things got ugly.

The consumables I used:
Oil of Immolation
Statholme holy water
Elixer of Int
Scroll of Spirit
Nightfin Soup (8mp/5)
The 25 Int buff from the Blasted Lands quest consumable (forgot name)
AD stamina buff
Major Mana Pot
Wizard oil

Use everything you have, it might not be nessisary, but if you happen to have it, use it, I just happened to have wizard oil from leveling enchanting. I also had Dark Runes which I didn't end up using, but I should have, I was out of mana and almost died when I got the quest complete message.

I would recomend:
Try the quest once or twice without using any consumables just to get a feel for clicking through all the citizens and how it goes and when is a good time to turn and run back to the next wave of citizens. Then go all out with the consumables.
Also as was stated below use the Major Mana Pot early so the cooldown is over when you need it again later. I would also recomend using a dark rune early (it on a different timer than mana pots, and early on you have the health to do it).

Also just to confirm: it seems the retry timer is 20-30 minutes now.

I just did it tonight in one try. :D

Buffs: MotW, Thorns, AI, Fort, Spirit, and Inner Fire.

Consumables: Mageblood pot, Brilliant Mana Oil, Oil of Immolation (used abut 10) and I used 1 mana pot.

Spells: Rank 3 renew, Abolish Disease, rank 2 holy nova a few times. That's it!
I healed myself twice and shielded a few times.

Much easier than I thought it would be!

This quest is given by Eris Havenfire, west of the entrance to Stratholme. In order to see her, and the quest mobs, you must have The Eye of Divinity equipped. The Eye of Divinity drops from The Cache of the Firelord which is summoned when Majordomo Executus submits (you defeat all his guards).

This is the priest epic stave quest in Eastern Plaguelands, started form looting the Eye of Divinity from The Cache of the Firelord (Majordomo's Chest - 50% droprate).

The scene: Just outside Stratholme, as Arthas is sacking the city. Peasants are fleeing in terror. A lone priestess is trying to protect them, but fails - dooming them all. Your mission: redemption. You must save 50 peasants before 15 die, thus redeeming the peasants, and the poor priestess who failed - Eris Havenfire (incedentally the questgiver.)

The setup: You need to have at least 15 Oils of Immolation on you, to make sure you have enough to last the entire encounter. You also want 3 major mana potions. Trust me, it won't last long enough for 4. Put flash heal rank 5 (for almost-dead peasants), renew max rank (peasant taking damage), abolish disease (diseased/plagued peasant), shield (yourself, if necessary), flash heal max rank (yourself), the oils of immolation, and holy nova (if you have it) on your action bar. You also want to have as much mana as possible - you'll be spending all your time in-combat and in the 5-sec rule. You'll also get flagged for PVP when you start the quest. When you accept the quest from Eris Havenfire, immediately some Scourge Archers spawn - you can't do anything about these mobs. Also, your first wave of peasants spawns. You must escort waves of 10~15 peasants from the cave to the north towards "The Light", which will be just in front of Eris. The first wave will only be sniped by archers, while the subsequent waves will also be attacked by melee skellies - these can be destroyed, and will die in one hit of holy nova or 2 tics of oil of immolation. I found the easiest way was to walk backwards, curing the peasants that were diseased (green aura or purply glow), and renewing the ones being sniped. You MUST cure the peasants right off, otherwise they will take a lot of damage. Also note that they will randomly become re-diseased as you walk them towards the Light. I kept the floating healthbars up ("V" by default) to monitor their health. The moment I saw a melee skellie I popped an oil. As soon as you get below 2k mana, pop a mana potion so that your cooldown begins asap. When you see the next mob of peasants spawn, run back to them (you are walking backwards, aren't you? =P ) and begin this process over again. It's an incredibly chaotic event, and only folks who have the Eye of Divinity equipped can see the quest mobs, or Eris Havenfire. If anyone even moves nearby, you will probably instantly fail, as a demon called "The Cleaner" will spawn, and one-shot whomever moved (if you are lucky), and you (if you are unlucky). 2 hour wait time before you can try again if you fail.

The Reward: An intense feeling of relief as you get.... . Now all you have left to do is farm that Eye of Shadow - good luck!

Just did it, and got it right after 3 attempts. I soloed mine, and as soon as I finished, another priest came through the cave and congratulated me. I then assisted her in completing the quest by standing on the hill and helping peasants cross the finish line, so I can confirm that not only is the quest soloable, but it can also be assisted.

Crazybelgium nails it in his lengthy but very descriptive post. My first mistakes were 1) not curing the diseases, just trying to heal, 2) not watching my own health and dying, and 3) not having proper ranked spells loaded up so I ran out of mana.

Using the V key brings up health bars, but you DO NOT have to click the peasant to select him. You can click his health bar, so just look at the falling health bars, and the ones that say "Plagued Peasant", click on those health bars, and cast Cure Disease or Rank 7 Renew. Also a half strength Flash Heal for those critical peasants being hit by arrows will save a few, so load that up.

Get some Demonic Runes from Azshara fels, have one or two of those, but don't pop them unless your health is high and your mana gone. 3 Major Mana potions are enough. A Flask of Infinite Wisdom is really great, as it increases your mana pool by 2000. So you can walk in there with buffs and increased mana pool at about 9500 mana. Drink your mana as soon as you're able to reap the full benefit, so your potion cooldown begins sooner. So once your mana is down about 1/3rd (ie, you have 2/3rds left), drink it.

Periodically through the battle, Eris Havenfire "heals" you, restoring mana and health, but only if you're close to her. So when you're escorting a group on that end, swing her way just a little bit and get her buff. You'll regain probably 1/3rd of a mana bar and some health.

Remember to heal yourself! I have the worst time with that. I get zeroed on healing others like air traffic control and don't watch my own health bar. Some little stupid dinky mob pwns me down, and I feel like a doofus.

Finish this on 5th try while suffering a major lag spike in middle of 5th run.
Here are a few things I did not do on previous 4 trys.

1. Besides using "V" key to see health, switch to top-down bird eye view. If you use standard camera angle behind your character, all the peasants' health bars can bunch together, makeing it difficult to click on the right peasant for heal/clease disease.

2. Use Renew rank 8 only for yourself and the peasants. It's most mana efficient and provide sufficient health for you and the peasants. Not to mention it's instant cast with almost no down time for recast.

3. Use fear on first wave of skeles, then when they come back w/ second groups of skeles, cast Holy Nova to 1 shot all 8. Use oil of immolation to finish any skele that you missed in Holy Nova. It's true Holy Nova cost mana, but it's mana efficient if you can kill 8 skeles in 1 shot and heal yourself of battle damage.

4. When you escort peasants toward end of run, cast Renew 8 on those low on health and then run back to beginning for next wave.

5. On your trip back to the beginning of the run, make sure you run NEAR the quest giver Eris Havenfire. She will heal you and give you some mana.

6. On orders of importance: A) remove disease, fastest pesant killer, B) heal self w/ Renew 8 or shield self. If you are dead, it's over. C) Cast renew 8 on pesants taking damage, D)Kill melee skeles. Melee skeles actually do little damage to pesants when compared to arrows and disease.

7. Drink major mana potion bottle whenever possible.

8. Get pally Blessing of Wisdom, mage's intel buff before battle

Just did it on my first try :D

I just wanted to test the Quest and look for a good tactic, but then...The Balance of Light and Shadow (Complete) !

I used:
- 2 Greater Mana Potions (yeah Greater not Major :p )
- 15 Oil of Immolation
- Holy Nova Rank 1
- Renew Rank 10 (I forgot to switch it with a lower rank)
- Abolish Disease
- Desperate Prayer
- Flash Heal Rank 7 for myself

First I thought: "Damn, I never complete this Quest," but then "Benediction lol"

I had only my PW:F and no other buff.

So, if you use Major Mana Potions, Mark of the Wild and Arcane Briliance it's easy.

Well, there is only a few things I really can recommend that makes this ^&*!loads easy! Use lower ranks of all spells u use, so u almost never gets oom. Useing highest ranks of anything dooms u as u will get oom after saved 2/3 of them. Even if u got potions, thoose will have cooldown by then!

Holy Nova rank 1 against skeletons
Renew rank 8 (changing from rank 9 to 8 did the trick for me, from hard to easy as pie)
Abolish Disease
Flash Heal rank 4 sometimes when u missed some peasent that are on really cruical hp!

Also, walk near the priestess as she will kinda "innervate" u from time to time.
If u can, also get a drood and mage buff, besides your own PwF and Spirit!

Also the V key doesn't seem to work, it can show friendly player names, but not those guys. That makes it quite a lot harder than normal I think...

ok so I tried this solo .. honest I did .. but after about the 10th time of failing it when it was sooo close to complete I gave up and got a friend to help. I know I'm a crap healer and I should be ashamed of myself but I got a pretty glowy staff now so I don't care :P

I wanted to post here to say the following (as of Dec 8th 2006):

- Yeti's DON'T work .. you will get cleaned. End of Story.

- You don't need a full party of people, one extra priest makes an amazing difference. Use standard priest buffs, get your friend (using their eye) to stand near the quest giver and heal/dispell the ones that pass that hill and you take care of them between the tunnel entrance and the bigger hill and it'll be easy as.

I tried everything, oil of immolation, different ranks of spells, all the potions an alchemist can make, in the end that little help from another priest made all the difference in the world, I used no mana potions and stayed above 50% mana the whole time.

That's my two cents .. now I'm off to whack something ...

To answer the guy who asked about the "Death Post" that's mentioned in the quest description, it's on the hill to the left and when peasants die they will appear on the post dangling with a noose around their neck(thus making you see how many peasants have died), though after acouple of peasants have died it gets kinda' hard determining how many there actually is hanging up there and you won't have time to watch that post while doing the quest in the first place so just do your best and don't worry about anything else then the Q at hand:P

I'd like to add something to the tactics already mentioned: if you still have your yeti pet you obtained in Winterspring with this quest USE IT. Since it lasts 10 minutes, it's up during the whole duration of the quest and kill the skels ni 2 shots.
Really handy.

20,18 is the coords....I decided I would just take a dry run and not use any pots to see wtf is going on...bad idea you have to wait like 20-30 mins for the b*tch to respawn....then everyone says to use low rank heals...HAH so I took all my big heals off hotkeys and then when I was taking heat BAM I f*cking died....cause I did not have high enough spells to keep myself up....this is just to funny

sorry about the order, second i suggest using ez-throw dynamite, in addition to oil of immolation because it will kill the skellies almost instantly. I brought along dark runes, demonic runes, and major mana pot, they all have different cooldown which helps a ton. last, when you see a preist who's waiting at the ncp, don't try to be the first one. when i got to her, there where 3 horde priests (i'm allaince) waiting and rather then cut them off i waited for them each to do it. to my surprise they all managed to start the quest at the same time and in doing so finished at the same time. Afterwords i started my quests and one of the undead preists was nice enough to stay behind and help me out. Thanks to him, and the 5g worth of preparations i did i finished the quest fairly easily. Hope i could help out a little, good luck to priest, alliance and horde.

I just succeeded at this today on about my 4th try.

Just a note, the questgiver respawns after 30 minutes if you or anyone else fails the quest.

Anyhow, I was welfed from Nightfin Soup, had a Mageblood Potion on me, Druid buffs (including thorns, these help against the skellies), my own buffs of course, and Brilliant Mana Oil. I also had Marli's Touch from ZG equipped to give me a mana boost. I ended up using 3 Major Mana Pots. Use them not when you are out of mana, but when you are half-through, to give time for the cooldown so you can use them again.

Rank 5 Flash Heal

Even for those not injured much, I tried to get a rank 3 renew on everyone. Dispel the disease as soon as you can, and throw a flash heal on if necessary, followed by a renew. If you are in trouble, throw a high rank renew on injured people instead of wasting time casting flash heal.

By the 5th group of peasants, things may be a little hectic, Just dispell all the diseases and keep getting renews on people. And make decisions wisely, there was one guy ahead of the others close to death, and I just let him die rather than flash heal him, so that I could instead dispel diseases on 3 others.

Oh, and I still have no idea where the death post was, probably would have been nice to know how I was doing, but Oh Well.

Benediction used to be a testament on your skill, because the quest is far from simple if done the correct way.
But nowadays theres no way you can fail it !
2 or even more priests can help eachother, and players without the skill to complete the quest solo now gets the best healerstaff in the game with little or no effort.

And to add insult to injury blizzard currently does not consider this an exploit.
(They are aware of the problem and are looking into it, acc to a GM on my server)
But ths was also the case with the hunterquest for a while (other classes killing the demons).
So hopefully the quest will be fixed someday.

I know i deserve the staff, cause i did it solo (on my first try even).
But how many bene-priests out there couldnt do the quest alone ?

So to all priests on all servers that did this quest the way its intended to be done, congratulations to a testament of your skill.
To all others, i pity you for not having what it takes to complete it.

Oil of immolation is not needed if you have Holy Nova..

Hmm 'holy nova', or as i like to call it 'mana gone in 3 secs'. I prefer the oil of immolation approach. These things are easy to make if you are an alchemist, and well worth having generally.

I have a 21/30/0 heal / protect build. Holy nova was fun from 20-59, but healers really need to stick to what we're good at and leave aoe to the mages. For the mana cost : healing/dmg done, the math sucks.

I just did this on my Troll Priest, I only had full devout and Glowing Brightwood Staff on. I had to use 2 oils of immolation and 3 major mana potions. I only let I think 2 or 3 die. I did it on my second try though because on my first try I only saved about 30 since I didn't have any mana pots at all. The second time I did it, I focused on curing diseases immediately and then renewing them, I never stopped to cast a single heal. I used rank 1 holy nova when I had a bunch of skeletons on me, and just smacked em in the face with my staff when there were 1 or 2.

Gratz on your epic quest starter. Do NOT waste your time or gold on this quest with anything other than getting a couple of mana potions and respec'ing to get Holy Nova if you don't already have it. It's the path of least resistance for sure. Good Luck!

I thought I'd do a test try to see how hard it was. I had a few pots ready to use, but I never got to. I was never low on health myself. Honestly, I thought I'd fail as I saw 2 peasants die in the first wave. But after adjusting it went pretty smooth. When ever I was close to oom or oom, I'd go to the quest giver for the buff. I didn't need to watch my own health at all, she took care of that.

I got 3727 health and 5341 mana. After a while of randomly healing and removing diseases I got the completed quest messege, no sweat broken. I don't know if I was just lucky, but this quest really is soloable and you don't need anything except your own buffs and maybe a single mana pot or dark rune

Doing this quest with other priests somehow diminish the meaning of an EPIC quest. Even unskilled priest with an extreme luck on getting the eye could easily get an epic weapon. but i'm not refering to all the priests who teamed with one another. Most of them could be really great priests who happens to find another priest to help and complete the quest with.

The respawn of the quest NPC on a failure has been reduced to 30 minutes or so. Maybe 20, but don't quote me on that. It didn't take 2 hours, that much is for sure. :) Good luck to all who need!

This quest is very easy to do. On a Priest in all blues/greens (Truefaith Vestments was my sole epic) I was able to complete this on my third attempt, alone, with no raid buffs. The first time I didn't bring any pots, the second, a Warlock ran through the peasants and spawned the Cleaner. I was specced 26 Disc, 25 holy.

What to bring to solo it:

20x Oil of Immolation (helpful, not really too necessary if you have holy nova)
5x Mageblood Potion (will regen 12 mana 5 sec for an hour, goes away if you die)
5x Major Mana Potion (you'll probably only use 2 of these on your successful attempt)
1x Brilliant Mana Oil (will regen 12 mana 5 sec, and increase your healing)
1x Flask of Distilled Wisdom (really pricey, but honestly this is your epic quest, you can afford to go all out on it)

Who to bring if you're grouping it:

- Another Priest, who can heal you
- A paladin or two, for mana regen buff, kings, devotion and retribution aura
- A druid for thorns, mark of the wild, innervate
- A warlock for HP buff, Soulstone, healthstone
- A mage, for int buff

Honestly if you have a group of 5 to support you, you shouldn't need any pots.

How to do it:

I was unable to use the v-key to show life bars for some reason so I just had to move my cursor around to watch them all. Use cure poison/disease on peasants that are glowing. If you see one fall below 50%, give them a renew. If you see skeletons, fear them. If your fear is down, holy nova. Just rinse and repeat. The big thing here is MANA EFFICIENCY. Get as much mana, and as much mana regen as you can for this fight. I had around 8k, with a flask up.

I failed this a few times, mainly due to difficulties targeting the correct peasants. The best tip I read which made all the difference to me, was the camera view.

Toggle on friendly health bars, goto the interface settings and move the 'max camera distance' slider up a bit. When the quest starts, pan the camera out and up until you are looking nearly directly down on the peasants. This removes most the of the annoying 'shuffle' the health bars do when you view the peasants head on. Selecting them from above was much more accurate and meant I lost far less in the early waves. By the time the last hectic wave arrived I had plenty of spare and the quest completed.

Just did it solo yesterday (25-11-06, with my first priest character) first try! :)

Spells: Holy nova 4, renew 5 and abolish disease. Heal rank 3 for myself also.
Buffs: stam, spirit and int only
I had about 3.4k hp and 5k mana buffed.

Walking near Eris, the quest giver does sometimes give you a buff, restoring some hp and mana. I didn't get the buff that often (maybe I didn't walk near enough to her), so used two major mana potions in the attempt (my mana pool is quite small).

At times I had to take a beating from the skeletons, while waiting for enough mana to regen for a holy nova, and I did spend a lot of the fight with low health - until I remembered FIRST AID! You can easily bandage yourself a couple of times in the duration between spawns of skeletons so do remember this. A warlock healthstone would be useful also :).

All this nonsense of doing it with party members or 3+ priests is shocking.

It's meant to be a solo quest, and if you can't do it yourself then you really don't deserve that shiny benediction staff. Where's the challenge/fun in exploiting it with more than one priest?

You really don't need external buffs to do this, or any flasks. Just walk with about 5 major mana potions (I only used 2) and 20 oil of immolations (I used 15), you don't even need demonic runes as you shouldn't run out of mana.

The main things to remember is that you need to remove the diseases ASAP and you don't need to overheal (use lower ranks of flash heal, I used rank 5 only). Also, try to path near the quest NPC to get a free heal and mana regen.

I did this on the first try with about 4 peasants dying due to carelessness, give it a shot as some of these comments really have this quest overhyped.

Did it with pretty decent blue healing gear.
Core points:
Renew rank 5
Heal rank 2
Flash heal rank 5
Holy nova rank 3 (lowest rank to 1-shot skeletons, they have around 90 hp). Never use oil of immolation, it kills them in 2 ticks - meaning each skeleton will punch you for full 3 seconds. They hit relalively hard and will probably kill you or require self heal. HN and mana pots - lightyears ahead in efficiency.
Mana pots ASAP (took 3 on successful try)
Dark runes ASAP (took 3 as well)
Kill skeletons by wand sometimes to keep full mana regen if relevant

Encounter resets itself after about 15-30 mins if failed solo, so there was no big problem trying it the hard way.
Sometimes peasants spawn or act pretty "specially" which simplifies the given wave. For example - one of them moves a bit ahead of the group and takes most of the damage, which is easily healed by low rank Heals.

This can be completed in a group of 5. Get a warrior to stand by the cave and a healer behind him to heal him. He will aggro the mobs and kill them. Him and the healer will not move. Get the priest that started the quest to heal the NPCs up until where the quest giver is, at this point, 2 other priests standing where the quest giver is will take over until they despawn, however once again, these priests cannot move. Do it like this and you can get 4 priests done with 1 quest.

I really dont get why people are having bad time with this quest. 1st try, success. All i needed was downranked spells, 1 major mana potion and mage buff and it was like stealing candy from a baby. Althought i understand it can be a confusing moment when you first try it. Use your mana efficiently and its a free weapon.. And beautifuuuuuuuuul!

After failing individually we teamed up as two priests on the quest and did it with ease. Both need the eye equipped. The first priest starts the quest and does all the running at the gates. The second priest accepts the "xyz started a quest, would you like to start as well?". From then on, the second priest mustn't move at all. First priest does cleaning and healing just as you would normally from the gate, but as soon as they are in range the second priest takes them over and heals them to the finish while the first priest goes back to the gate. This way you effectively have twice the mana and two seperate five second rules for regen. Apart from a few leftover water from strath and some fire oil (way to few if done normally) the only thing we did was downrank our spells and go for it. No additional buffs from other classes or consumables except mp5-food. Mana was plenty even though I nuked the skeletons with Holy Nova 3 instead of the oil.

TL;DR: Find a second priest also on the quest and save yourself a lot of stress and consumables.

If you like the Mage Tower challenges in Legion, then solo this one. Not that hard and quite a lot of fun. If you're just after the staff and want to get it done as easy as possible then try doing it as a group of priests.

You can do it as a group of priests but need to do the following:

Everyone has to have the Eye of Divinity
Everyone hand in the initial Warning quest
Choose one priest that will do the walking between the cave and 60% towards the NPC. We'll call this the Walker
The other priest stand next to the NPC. For the duration of the encounter - DO NOT MOVE. We'll call this the Finisher
Enable friendly and enemy nameplates and make sure in Interface Options you have it set to Stacked Nameplates

Ok once you decided who the Walker and who the Finisher is, the Finisher takes his / her position. The Walker then initiates the quest - The Balance of Light and Shadow. A pop up box will appear for the Finisher in the same way as an escort quest.

The Walker then takes care of everything from the cave through to about 60% where the Finisher should be able to take over the healing and abolish disease. The Walker always walks on the cave end side of the peasants so that all skellies that spawn comes straight to the Walker. Ideally the Walker has Holy Nova and rank 4 is sufficient to kill them all.

We did it as a holy / shadow combo of priests and had the following spells:
Holy - Flash Heal 4, Heal 2, Holy Nova 4 and Abolish Disease
Shadow - Flash Heal 4, Heal 2, Abolish Disease

Priority was always the Abolish Disease first and then healing. Most of the time there is enough time for Heal but if someone dropped low then a Flash Heal was used.

Consumed Nightfin Soup before we started and the Walker popped one major mana potion after wave 2. Probably was not ever needed as neither priest's mana ever dropped below 50%. The downtime you have when the other priest takes over gives plenty of time to regen mana.

One last thing, if only 1 or 2 skellies spawn, wand them down to increase mana regen time.

How to easier mode this.

Get a mage or two to stand on the skeleton spawn points near the cave, have them hit arcane explosion when the adds spawn (your mages can't move once the event begins or you'll fail, however they can see the skeletons spawn briefly to time their explosion). Just focus on managing your mana while using any of the great advice in other comments, use oil of immolation when needed (I didn't need to use it at all), and hang in there!

This event is more difficult than the comments would lead you to believe, bring friends and try this if you're struggling.

Must have The Eye of Divinity equipped in order to see the NPC.

Before starting the quest:

Have your Friendly Nameplates turned on and stacked up in the interface settings.
Consumables:
Nightfin soup for mana buff
Major Mana Potion - 5 should be enough
Either Demonic Rune x5 or Dark Rune x3-5 - The latter being the better one. Very very useful.
Stratholme Holy Water about 5
Oil of Immolation about 5. I didnt use this much
Spells to be used (your action bar/hotkeys/etc):
Abolish Disease - on peasants with purple aura
Cure Disease - on peasants with green aura
Holy Nova (Rank 4) - to 1 hit kill Undead skelly mobs. If it's just 1 attacking you, wand it to save mana
Flash Heal (Rank 4) - to heal peasants below 40 or 50% hp
Renew (Rank 6) - to heal peasants if between 50-90% hp

For the quest itself:

There are about 4 waves of Peasants who will walk from the cave to the light. Standing at the mid point might save you some time from walking back and forth constantly. If you are doing this quest with another Priest, one of you can be the walker and the other can stay near the NPC. The mid point is just within the range of the 2nd priest who will be able to take over the healing from the walker.
Follow #3 above to see which spell to cast according to the hp and color of the peasants. Priority goes to those with purple aura/disease.
When the Undead skelly mob comes in to attack you, 1 cast of Holy Nova (Rank 4) will be enough to get rid of them. BUT to conserve mana, use Stratholme Holy Water. Use these two effeciently and there shouldnt be any mana issues.
When your mana is around 30-50%, pop your Major Mana Potion first. The next time you need to up your mana, pop the Dark Rune. Since the cooldown time of the Rune isn't shared with pots, it'll be well after cooldown the next time you need to pop your Mana pot.

If you watched some of the run through on Youtube and read the comments here, it depends on the individual running this quest and how prepared they are. I failed twice as I had issues with the Friendly nameplates not showing up. Suggest disabling the Mods for nameplates if you are using one.
Ended up doing this quest with another Priest who popped by to do his. We did the two Priest method. Since I started the quest, I was the Walker from cave to mid while he took over from mid (within range) while remaining stationary (though not a must) near the NPC.

We had to do this this quest again for him as it didn't start for him the first time around. So you can get 2nd Priest to help you even if they aren't on this quest. NPC only disappears if you fail the event. I'm not sure about the previous patches but should you fail, the NPC respawn takes just 15 minutes. The Undead skelly seemed to attack just the Walker. 2nd Priest, no worries.

*not sure if having a non-priest class to intercept when you're failing is a good idea as those suggested in the videos. But if you are getting others like a druid and a mage to help you, make sure you are all aware of where they have to stay put from the start to the end of the event*

My memory sucks, so I promised myself after this last go 'round I'd share what we learned. What we've found is there are several ways to do it - the most recent we had two priests who needed the staff, one holy, one shadow.

One stationed (without moving) next to the quest giver, one was the "rover" for the first half of the pathway from the cave to where the path begins to narrow a bit. We also stationed a pally, with ret aura, on the first hill next to the cave mouth, down about halfway so he was close enough to aggro mobs, but not on the path (which would pull the Cleaner). We had a fire mage standing next to the quest giver ready to cast Blizzard on skellies as they came within range - but none made it that far. The pally's ret aura just did the job.

Spells included Abolish Disease, Flash Heal (rank 4), Holy Nova (for the rover/holy priest - rank 4), Renew (rank 8)
Pots/elixirs/food buffs included: Major Mana Potion, Demonic Runes, Brilliant Mana Oil, and Nightfin Soup (we didn't need oil of immolation or holy water)

The priest who started the quest is the one who was the rover - he healed and used abolish disease (no need for cure disease - same mana use and abolish is stronger). He pretty much ignored the ranged skellies and the Pally's ret aura took care of almost all the skellies that populated from the cave. The shadow priest, who stood stationary next to the quest giver, picked up the healing and disease removal once they were in range so the rover could return closer to the cave mouth.

Lots of preparation for this one, but it completed on the first try.

Please note - there are many ways to accomplish this task - this is just the most recent used by our guildies.

Fun quest, and glad I got to do it before TBC dropped! (TBC Classic, that is). This was my secondary goal for Classic, after Rhok'delar, Longbow of the Ancient Keepers, which I missed on my first serious WoW character back in Vanilla.

What really made my final run successful was my Mechanical Yeti from Winterspring. I've loved the little guys on many characters, but have always hesitated to use them. This was the perfect time. He made short work of the skeletons, with some help from the Oil of Immolation, letting me save my Holy Fire 3 and holy water for when I had a lot of skeletons at once.

I have a few MC epics, but mostly Devout blues. I specced disc/heal, used mana pots, Stratholme Holy Water, and Oil of Immolation, and I casted Abolish Disease on any purple debuffs, then Abolish Disease for green debuffs, occasionally a flash heal 5 if someone is heavily wounded, but mostly Renew 7, with an occasional renew 4 for lightly wounded peasants. There's no reason to use the once-and-done Cure Disease - Abolish Disease has the same cost and cures reinfection, too.

Make sure you turn around and head back to the cave when the group gets almost to the quest giver, or you'll lose the purple debuff peasants in the next group.

I used ThreatPlates to display peasant health and debuffs, and I rotated the view to look down from above to avoid so much health bar overlap.

The purple debuff, Seething Plague on Plagued Peasant, ticks for 20% health every 4 seconds (5 ticks, 20 seconds until dead - ouch!). Green is Death's Door on either type of peasant, and it hits for 5% health every 3 seconds (100% in 1 minute).

The Plagued Peasant and Injured Peasant have about 1600 health. They actually cast those debuff spells... (you'd think they'd just not cast them!)

The Scourge Footsoldier have about 90 health, and the Scourge Archer have about 3100 health (I didn't try fighting the archers). Each bow shot and each skeleton hit do about 75 damage, so if the skeletons attack very long, or if the archers concentrate on one peasant, especially one with a disease, the peasants can drop pretty fast.

Bring on TBC!

THIS IS SUPER IMPORTANT

When you are on this quest you will have to heal in a chaotic enviroment. The friendly npc's that you have to heal are standing crowded making targeting difficult. And they will occationally talk, making if difficult to see who needs help first.

This macro below will make or break your success.

When not knowing WHAT to to, or just waiting for something to happen... then you spam this macro ALL the time. The reason it works is because Cure Desease does not cost any mana unless you actually remove a disease. Secondly you will remove a disease before you actually can see it's visual effect on the NPC's, or before it does heavy damage. If you need to remove a disease on yourselves, then just hold in a modifier (Shift / Ctrl / Alt ) while using this macro.
