the drop rate was shocking, took me an hour to do it, and i practicaly gained a whole lvl because of how many damn wolves i killed

Not that bad of drop rate, many around 44,47!

Another good location with many of the wolves and cougars is 33,42. This location is also swarmed with harpy's so you can do your Dangers of the Windfury quest alongside it.

Drop rate on the cougars was very quick (killed 10 to get the 6 claws) ... but now, with the stalkers, I have 1 claw and I've killed over 50 of the things! is there a place that has a better drop rate? or am I just unlucky?

Takes a little while to complete, just because the mobs don't always drop the claws. Thunderhorn Well is south of Bloodhoof village; you can find lots of stalkers and cougars there.

At lvl 9, 625 exp and a "standard" increase to TB rep (quest yellow).

Take the road out of Bloodhoof village toward the northeast and before you get to Thunder Bluff vear off the road to the left and in that little valley is all the cougars and stalkers you need pretty good drop rate had to wait for a few to respawn but did it easily and got a bird path opened while I was at it.
Ok wierd thing happened I walked up the side of the hill beside Thunder Bluff and I'm getting rested experience!

I found all the stalkers and cougars I needed in front of the cave of Seer Wiserunner and along the road to Thunder Bluff.
Drop rate wasn't bad either, more than every second I killed dropped a quest item. Finished the quest in 15 - 20 minutes.

To create the Thunderhorn Cleansing Totem, you must gather the claws of the predators of the Mulgore plains. Hunt prairie stalkers for their stalker claws and flatland cougars for their cougar claws, then return to me.

You will find the prairie stalkers and flatland cougars to the east and west.
