I found him in the center of the lower level in the tower just outside Theramore, "Sentry Point" on the map.

He actually moves around as part of the Missing Diplomat quest. Thus, he may not always be in Theramore (though usually is) and may occassionaly be in the tower.

its in 28,62 in desolance map westerm part of valley of spears, so u can find the shadowshards

well i dont know bout u all but i just found him in the main tower INSIDE Theramore Isle on the top floor. I got a crap 700xp at lvl 51. The only way u get the shards is by killing the Shadowshard Elementals (i think thats their name) outside the instance but inside mauradon...they are around where the snake looking things are.

His placement depends on another quest. The Missing Diplomat. if someone with that quest is in the area he is usually in the senty towers if not he is at the tower.

They're off rock elementals just outside the purple entrance.

go in to maraudon and turn to the purple instace dirrection. You do not have to go in to the actually instace the stonemonsters are just outside. Kill them and get the fragments

I didn't get around to do doing this quest untill I was 53-54. I had been trying to do it since level 46 or so. Each time I would go, I would either get invited to run Mara and not finish it or I would get ganked by 60 hordies repeatedly to the point that I would give up and try later. Finally, I decided one day that I would run through and do it and I wasn't leaving until I finished it. It took me about 3 hours but I finally finished it. I was ganked 4 times and died once when I aggroed 3 of em. The crazy thing about this quest is that these guys are only 41-42 elites, and so at level 54 you get no xp's for killing them, but they are harder to kill than most normal 54 mobs...at least for me they were. After I finished the quest, I traveled to Theramore and turned it in for a whopping 350 xp's...unbelieveable for the amount of time and energy that went into finishing it. I could have gotten more experience for killing a level 48 scorpion or something. My point is that if you are over level 50 dont bother with it..it is a complete waste of time. I would only do it if you are going there to run the instance anyway.

Gud comment...... makes sense to kill only one thing for about the same amount of XP as you get for this quest not to forget maybe 1hr+ spent on completing it....... if your not worried about the time and XP doin it.......enjoy but i dont think its worth it at all! (49lvl Mage)

These things have powerful knockbacks and if you're not careful you might end up in the midst of other mobs. For hunters who want to solo this (did it at 51), always have your back close to the wall and away from other patrols/mobs in case it losses aggro from your pet and goes for you.

Well got missleaded a lot by reading the posts, so here you got the real location to find Archmage Tervosh, he is in the tower on Theramore isle, Loc is: 66,49

Well I think only the Smashers knock you back, the Rumblers don't so try and grind them, especially if your a priest or other casting class, since their knockbacks interrupt your casts. Watch out for pat too, even as a lvl 50 shaman one smasher was annoying since I had to heal way in advance if need be.

First post - but i had to.

Yes Stoneshard Smashers where in purple crystal area and not in the instance as mentioned above.
I killed 10 of them and got all 10 Shadowshard fragments. Excellent drop rate.

Btw - keep your back to the wall ;)

After I killed <what's his name?> on the pier for "MISSING DIPLOMAT" Lady Proudmore n Archmage Tervosh came down to the pier to apologize and that's where I got "SHADOWSHARD FRAGMENTS"; from them.

For the alliance this guy is on the isle, he is NOT in the swamp. 66,49 is the coords when I'm standing right on him. For some reason he didn't have a ! above his head even though he had the quest for mauradon that is green for me. Anyways, he's in the tower and not in the castle where the first aid trainer is, and he's not in the swamp =)

easy enough, lvl 45 mage and a lvl 46 hunter, took 30mins, dropped from every one, and it seems everyone in the party can loot a drop, so ten elementals later we were done.

I can´t find Maraudon on any maps, where in Desolace is it?

You get this quest for the mage in the big tower in the middle of Thermare.

The shards drop of stone elementals at the purple side inside maraudon (Not inside the instance, but in the purple part before it). Each elemental will drop 1 of these shards.

Note. If you fight them solo be carefull. They can bash you around and there are many bridge so you might fall down and pull agro of many many more.

Note 2. Some of them wander around becarefull, if you get agro be sure to know the entrance of the instance :)

If you're looking for Archmage Tervosh, he is in the tower at 44,49 (Theramore, Dustwallow Marsh) all the way up the stairs.

The purple rock elementals that roam the purple side of Maraudon drop these fragments.

This quest might have been nerfed in Classic. I turned it in at level 51 for 350 xp.

If you're using questie, it will show up on your map at level 38, but will not be available until 39.

For any druid out there trying to solo this, forget about cat form. Bear form is king against the elementals. Pop a Regrowth on you, pull with a Moonfire and start hitting them with your big bear paws. With a combination of Enrage, Demoralizing Roar, Maul, Frenzied Regeneration and the occasional Regrowth when things get tight, you should be able to solo these guys.
Yes, the elementals are actually OUTSIDE the dungeon in the purple section of the caverns, populated by worms.
While it is recommended to stand with your back against a wall to prevent aggro-ing other mobs when you're getting the push back, be careful not to stand near a wall that can be climbed. I've had a few instances when the mob's health reset due to me landing on the wall and becoming inaccessible to it.

SoD Phase 2. Doable as lvl 40 fire mage. A few pointers:
- It's in the purple wing
- Bring nature resistance potions or lesser invisibility potions. You'll have to get past a few Rock Worms, which will kill you in a heartbeat with their nature acid attack. Mana shield doesn't help.
- Bring a few mana pots in case
- Watch out for stone elemental patrols. An alternative way to do this is to kill the patrols one by one until you have the fragments, but this will take a long time.
- To kill the stone elemental elites: Pyroblast, living flame, living bomb, fill in some scorches and fireballs. Frost nova to get away, and on the next round of attacks you should be able to kill them with a few crits.
- Sometimes I had to run away from respawns; they evaded if I ran over to the dungeon entrance

I've recently begun testing various crystals and their arcane properties. Lady Proudmoore has given me leave to ask travelers heading into Desolace to seek out a place called Maraudon. Within the ruined temple are great elementals composed of purplish stones I've named shadowshards.

If you decide to head that direction and find some of the crystals, I would be very thankful. I could even fashion you a trinket from them if you so desired.
