You learn Artisan level by completing the following quest.

Once you have reached level 40 and have 225 in Fishing. (I repeat you need to be at least level 40 and have maxed your skill at 225.)

Alliance Start: Starts with Grimnur Stonebrand in Ironforge (The Forlorn Cavern) https://www.wowhead.com/classic/quest=834/winds-in-the-desert

Horde Start: Start with Lumak in Orgrimmar (Valley of Honor).

Both send you to speak with Nat Pagle in in Dustwallow Marsh (Tidefury Cove, SW of Theramore Island). Approach from NW to avvoid higher level mobs. From Theramore Island you can swin directly west from the corner of the dock. https://www.wowhead.com/classic/quest=1281/jims-song-change-to-gossip

Nat Pagle wants you to four different fish; Feralas Ahi, Savage Coast Blue Sailfin, Sar'theris Striker, & Misty Reed Mahi Mahi.

Feralas Ahi is a rare drop in Feralas (Verdantis River).

Savage Coast Blue Sailfin is a rare drop in Stranglethorn Vale (The Savage Coast)

Sar'theris Striker is a rare drop in Desolace (Sar'theris Strand)

Misty Reed Mahi Mahi. is a rare drop in Swamp of Sorrows (Misty Reed Strand)

You can only get this quest if you got 225 in fishing and you are L40 or higher.

Thanks for the posts but I have a preliminary question. I'm at 150 (level 58 - I started late) and every fishing trainer I've tried won't give me any further training (i.e. 150-225).

I guess there wouldn't be any point in trying this quest without 225 fishing, right?

Que pasa? Obviously I'm missing something painfully obvious...

I recieved the quest at level 40. My fishing was maxed out at 225. All I use was a +5 fishing pole. I had no problems getting the fish. I did not use any additional lures. Goo luck all.

I got fishing quest from Nat Pagle yesterday at lvl 39 with 225 in fishing skill. Maybe Blizzard changed lvl from 40 to 35 in last patch.

Hilamonsta is correct - I went directly to Nat at about 216, then skilled up to 225 standing right next to him and at 225, he gave me the quest. He's on a small island off the coast across the harbor from Theramore Island.

Interesting that I used a +75 fishing lure and had so-so luck, then tried a +50 with the same result. Got talking on the phone, the lure ran out and I ended up just fishing with the pole alone while I was on the phone. Caught a lot more with no lures at all than either the +50 or the +75. What's that all about?

On the other hand, with no lures, all I got in the Verdantis River was a bunch of "Your fish got away." errors. Threw a lure on and caught the Ahi almost immediately.

Something is not exactly right because I've had the same "no lure catches more fish" issue with an alt in Menethil Harbor. Is the Fishing skill bugged, I wonder?

I have studied fishing EXTENSIVELY. I've created spreadsheets on it and have analyzed the data from over 5,000 casts. Here's the short version of what I've learned....

Fishing lures only allow you to fish in zones you do not have sufficient base skill, and when you do have the base skill they only reduce the probablility of getting a "Your fish got away." message. They DO NOT increase your chance of catching any particular item. That is on a purely random schedule after the program determines that the fish did not get away.

There is a minimum skill level at which you can fish any zone. If you're below that level, you won't catch a thing. Lures can help you get up to that level. Once you hit the minimum, up to about 50 points above the minimum, the number of "Your fish got away." messages will decrease as your skill increases. After you're 50 points above the zone minimum lures make no difference at all.

I hear a lot of people talking about doing better with or without lures. Most people just haven't gathered enough data for their observations to be statistically significant.

Try tracking two thousand casts, and write down the results of all of them. It's pretty tedious. I did it mostly to ward off the boredom while fishing, and found out some interesting behaviors of the program.

The lvl is changed in all three 2ndary profession to lvl 35 to get quest. (fishing, first aid and cooking)

Ok I dont know about you others but the information concering finding Nat was totally wrong on all counts. I followed each of the above. (no co-ords i dont have map) and I never found anything. Lucky that I did General and asked because I would have been there all day.

SO if you want to find Nat. Once you land on the Dock go left down the dock and at the end turn right facing inland jump and swim towards the grouping of 3. He is behind the one island standing on an inlet and if you have the quest he will have gold Question mark on his head.

From the middle of theremore island on the west side swim out west and a little south direction, he's on a little island, not the first one you come to.

You don't need to be L40. I got the quest from Nat Pagle at L35.

Just like every other profession, you must be 35 to get in the 225-300 range. Thanks for the input on the 5k casts!

I'm standing infront of Nat Pagle and have fishing skill of 225/225 and am lvl 60 but am unable to pick up any quest.
Is there something I am meant to do?

Also level 60 with skill = 225, should've done this a long time ago. Now can't get quest from IF trainer or from Nat Pagle. Has anyone had this problem and how was is it solved?

I am level 60 and have 300 skill in fishing and this guy does not have a quest for me. He only tells me to go to find Nat Pagle because he can't train me. WTF is up with this?

If you are on your way past IF it wont do you any harm to pick this quest up afterall xp is XP ;0)
