Wastewander camps are all around 59,39

They are a very consistant drop, shouldn't take long to get all 5.

For those without Coordinates, Just southeast of Gadgetzan, in the place on the map named, "Waterspring Field"

The drop rate is much higher for ones near the tall wells. If you strong enough you can just gather a bunch up and AE em.

I had to do this quest two times. The first time I tried I ran out of time on the Power Source and concequently my samples rotted. I was forced to start from the begining.

To complete the quest within the two hour limit I suggest you do the following.

Aquire the field testing kit from the Apothecary in Under City
Head to Gadgetzan and start killing Basiliks, Hienas, and Scorpions. Gather around 10 of each
Talk to the chief engineer to aquire the powersource
Head out to the field and apply the testing kit to your samples
Continue gathering samples as needed

It seems to me that the Acceptable samples are 1 in 5. So it helps to have plenty of Untested Samples before you begin the powersource part of the quest.

Also, the highest concentration spawns of Basiliks seem to be around the Temple of Time along the walls.

Took about 40-50 minutes as a lvl 49 shammy

Made 3g50 off the grey drops.

Plenty of time to do it. Just be prepared for frustrating conversion percent on the untested samples.

The untested samples are 100% drop when you have the quest started. Could not pick up the untested samples until i started the last leg of the chain

This took me a while to figure out as well...was so long since i got the quest from UC i forgot what i was doing =P. What I would suggest is as Rand says above

I just had to figure out that you actually need to ACTIVATE the power source by right clicking on it before i got started killing beasties. I was getting about a 33% conversion rate on untested to acceptable samples. I would suggest as well that you may need to have the powersource active before you go hunting...not 100% sure on that though.

Good luck with this! Not hard, just takes a while.

They are in groups if you head directly north from gatg to the shoreline.

Completed in 40 mins as a 54 Mage... Dont ask why i was bored, Mage Armour is best for this all you mages out there

you should kill the wastewaderer clan, around cosmos 59,23. they are lvl 41-43 about, and spread out pretty good. They do flee when nearly dead. I got 5 drops from 6 kills. I also got a pattern: tough scorpid breastplate. I was a lvl 44 lock, and used my imp with no problem. I didnt get the Tanaris Field Sampling Quest. I only got the power source item which begins the quest.

Got higher droprate at waterspring field (63,31).

STOP!

Do not start the next quest if you can not complete it before logging out. Once you start the quest from the Model 4711-FTZ Power Source, you have a 2 hour timer to complete it.

The timer persists while logged off.

If you fail the quest due to logging off, you will need to collect 10 more Wastwander Water Pouch to begin Another Power Source?. After completing Another Power Source, you will receive Model 4711-FTZ Power Source which gives you the Tanaris Field Sampling quest again. You will also need another Field Testing Kit which will not be provided to you this time. To get a new kit, you will need to visit Alessandro Luca in the Undercity (The Apothecarium) and purchase the kit for ~11 silver.

TL;DR - Make sure you are ready to do this quest before starting it. It is a lot of work to restart.

This quest appears to be bugged in BCC. It won't complete even if you have 5/5.
