You can pull the undead on the front (east) side without aggroing Araj. This makes it a little easier to kill him.

If you have a caster, you can stand on the edge of the nearby broken carriage and attack Araj the summoner directly without the guarding mob attacking you. His icebolts deal alot of damage, so Its best to bring a healer along with you. You will still need to kill the rest of the mobs after you kill Araj the summoner so you can loot his corpse and conplete the quest.

Just completed the quest with a 60, a 55 and a 57 warrior, a 58 pally and a 60 druid (me), no probs at all. First thing to do is to wipe out the outer ring of guards, preferably 3 or 4 at a time - have a caster pull, then warriors charge from the side.

When you have Araj and his bodyguards (61 elite, 2 x 60 and 2 x high level elite), root / shackle the warlords and dps dps dps! Didn't even need a healer, and we owned them all.

PS: Ensure you keep moving - while the healer is mana up'ing, attack the next grp, as they res after about 2 min (including Araj!)

Don't forget to complete the quest that Chromie gives you to get the device that hurts only Araj. It's attuned to him, but she doesn't tell you that.

But yeah, make sure the folks you are grouping with are patient but focused and get rid of all the guards first. And watch for wandering Abomination patrol.

Did it with 3 60s, a 58, and a 56. It took less then 5 min from the start of buffs till group disband. Just make sure you pull the few little groups around Araj first then get him (or here i cant really tell) and you shouldnt have a problem with it.

What are the Pre-requisites for this quest? I haven't done All Along the Watchtowers yet, is that what I'm missing?

i did it with 57 shaman, 57 druid and 57 warlock (me).

With 53,55 warrior, 54,52 Hunter , and 54 rogue first try we got to 18% then killed easy second time

5 ppl (lvl 54-55) did this q yesterday, just try to clear the mobs around first. Then kill the undeads around him first after that have at him :)

I might point out that If the Lich dies AND one already has the quest then they too may loot the shard. This was the case when some Hordies were killin the Liches Entourage and I happened by with my Alliance crew to kill him too - We jumped in and helped out and when the lich dropped and his phylactery spawned I looted it too - after all of them or course. So if U find that you do not have the resources to kill him - hang about until someone else starts to and join in. That was the way it went on Malygos (PvE). Course If U R one of the people on Stormreaver with my Priest then be prepared for that ole familiar lack of good will (Grant Absolutely No Kindness) that they call a GANK -

Managed to solo this sucker using my 64 rogue today... Died on the first pull due to the two Elite Guards and Araj herself.

First pull the skellies at the front, four or five will come, only 58ish so not a problem.

Go to one side and pull one of the elite guards, make sure you kill it before you die!

Run back & heal up (Of course you cleared a little safe area before hand didn't you?)

Stealth up to Araj, use Cheap Shot. Switch targets to the remaining elite guard and blind it (Can't sap because they're all undead). Unleash several kinds of hell on Araj, making sure you stun as much as possible as she is a powerful caster. Don't forget to hit Evasion - it makes this fight possible!

When she's almost dead she'll spawn a bunch of ghost hounds, these can be taken out in a couple of hits each.

The rest of the operation is mopping up the adds. Assuming you've done it right, you'll need to use a healing potion (I recommend Super!) and the rest should be cake!.

At the time of writing my rogue had 6805 hps well fed, 2188 armour, a power of 826 with a crit chance of 19.04%. Full combat build.

I completely loved soloing Araj, I remember getting pwned on several chars and in several groups over the years... At higher levels she'll be cake - go kill that *!@#$!

Last week (before the patch, IIRC) I could easily find the summoning crystals in each tower.

Now, I can't see any of them. At all.

You don't need the crystal to spawn anymore. Araj is standing in the middle of town now. Just go kill him, quite easy, he's also stunnable.

Did it today, for confirmation the quest is raidable, but u have to leave the raid to loot the Shard

i believe this quest is bugged since they moved andorhol around... i want my key! i spent 15g on it

we just took him with a 59 pally & priest, a 56 druid and me a lvl 58 rogue. we started by clearing the area as much as possible. pulled him and everyone ignore the main and take the adds. killed as many as the low lvl adds as possible. then the pally before dying after the druid and priest were oom used devine intervention to save the priest. eveyone else died. he rezzed once they went back. then i took the main while the pally took the adds. i took him pretty fast and the pally lasted a while. no one released before he was dead. after he died we all let ourselves go. ran back and looted. so the person ( some stupid know it all night elf that said we couldnt take him with 4 people ) can suck it. a total of 5 gold for everyone to repait thier armor and the key. without "at lease 8 lvl 60s".

after the patch this past tuesday, I did spot a crystal up in one of the towers (huge floating purple crystal) - but only once so I assume the respawn rate must be slow (they were not up when I first looked but were later). The annals of darrowshire was fixed too. Havent tried doing this quest - was along when i saw the crystal and havent seen it up the couple of times i have passed through since then

actually i (60 mage) did him with a 2nd mage tonight. was pretty easy, put max dps on him and ignore all adds. important: counterspell him once to pull him away from his spawn point and the point where the adds will return to after he's down. of course we died, but we got him down easily, so we returned, got ressed and looted him (hence the counterspell pull, otherwise the loot would be inaccessible cause of the adds)

PLEASE make sure you do the Scholomance Key Quest Chain before you do this quest.
The quest: "Araj's Scarab" will also require you to kill Araj.

PSA: As of now if he's dead already and hasn't despawned his phylactery is lootable if you have the quest(s). Just had a group for him, when we got there he was dead, we were all able to loot the phylactery without having done a thing.

As of Burning Crusade Classic's Prepatch, May 23 2021, this is somewhat broken--only one person can loot anything from the little Phylactory that drops on the ground.

However, surprisingly, I was able to solo it, on the first try, as a level 58 holy priest in mara gear.

Here is how I started the fight:

* I brought TWO "Attuned Dampener" items from doing Chromie's repeatable quest twice, elsewhere in Anderhal. This one-time-use item is designed to do a lot of damage to Araj, but you can bring multiple.
* I approached Araj from the south, and cleared out a lot of space to fight. There's a demolished house directly south of Araj (or maybe southeast) that was great to fight in, because the tiny remaining walls can be used to block his frostbolts, helping to waste time waiting for the 2nd Attuned Dampener to be ready (there's a 1-min cooldown between each).
* I was able to pull Araj without any adds, by approaching from the south, from the the east side of that house (outside the house, on a brick road). There were like 8 skeletons to the right of Araj from my POV, but none of them came with him, luckily.
* I cast Power Word: Shield beforehand, just to be sure he didn't one-shot me, but honestly he doesn't do much damage at all, especially after the Attuned Dampener.
* I pulled with with Holy Fire, then I quickly got behind a wall of the house, to pull Araj closer to me, otherwise he just stands there, casting frost bolt (pulling him closer is important to successfully loot the Phylactory thingy that drops near his corpse afterward!).
* Once he got to me safely, I think that's when I did my first Attuned Dampener, and got all my DOTs up (undead priests get an extra good DOT).

Here's what happened during the fight:

* Early in the fight, he summoned 2-5 ghost dogs. As soon as I saw him do this, I was like "OH ok, they really don't want you to solo this..."
* HOWEVER, the ghost dogs did hardly any damage, and despawned 20-30 seconds after spawning! So by simply keeping Power Word: Shield up, I was able to completely ignore the ghost dogs until they despawned.
* (Note: I did do 1 Holy Nova, just to check the HP of the dogs. Just mentioning it here in case it was a necessary step to despawning the dogs.)
* The "Attuned Dampener" had a 1-minute cooldown before I could use the 2nd "Attuned Dampener" that I brought. So I kept an eye on the 2nd one, and casted it as soon as it was ready.
* Each "Attuned Dampener" did about 33% of his HP in damage.
* I tried to drag out the fight and let the DOTs and Attuned Dampeners and Wand hits do all the damage--I don't recall casting any Smites or Mind Blasts during the fight, because I wanted to save all my mana for shields and heals, and keeping the DOTs up.
* He summoned 2-5 ghost dogs again toward the end of the fight, but I was able to survive them just with Power Word: Shield and one big self-heal, until they despawned.
* A few times during the fight, I got behind a wall of the house, so that Araj's next frostbolt would fail. However, I actually didn't do it that often. I wouldn't call it a kiting fight. I actually preferred to stand around and get a lot of Wand damage in--I had brought a pretty good wand. I didn't want a third set of dogs to spawn, I was worried they wouldn't despawn.
* The total fight was only about 90 seconds, I bet.

Here are the mistakes I made:

* I tried to cast a 2 second spell at some point, while the dogs were hitting me, and didn't have Power Word: Shield running. That was dumb, it took forever to get the cast to finish, and the dogs did a ton of damage in that time. And I wasn't standing behind a wall, so I was getting pelted by frost bolts too. I used a mana pot after that.
* I could have brought a 3rd "Attuned Dampener" and it would have been even easier. Although the fight didn't last long enough to use a 3rd one anyway.
* Once I saw the ghost dogs, I stopped taking the fight seriously, I figured it was impossible to solo. I wasted a ton of mana trying to kill the ghost dogs, not knowing they would despawn.

I'm not sure if there are multiple versions of this fight depending on the expansion, but I'll mention that Araj was elite lvl 61, and did not have any other Elites nearby. He spawned on the central fountain in Anderhal and doesn't walk around.

Commander Ashlam Valorfist was not spawned (nor any of the other NPCs in the area) when I was trying to turn this quest in. I logged into a different character, then relogged and all the NPCs were there and I was able to turn in the quest.

Inside the ruins of the city is where the lich - Araj the Summoner - holds dominion. He is guarded by numerous Scourge surrounding the remains of city's center, and his personal retinue of guardians attached to him directly is formidable. You will need numerous allies to even stand a chance of facing him successfully.

Destroy Araj, <name>, and bring me a shard from his phylactery as proof!
