This is a horrible quest. I've spent at least half an hour trying to complete it on just about every character I've taken through 1k Needles, and haven't been successful once.

There's only a few of these guys in the whole region, and the drop rate is very low. Just spend the time grinding on wolves while you wait for one of them to spawn over and over.

i got mine at 62,45 also but the drop rate is kinda low and there r only two surveyors that spawn at a time so u mite have to kill sum beasts to make them respawn also i spotten one in 64,60 there r also thunderin bouldekinds there for u who need them

Got the drop off of a Digger near the Horde encampment on the border with Shimmering Flats. Also, Thundering Boulderkin can be found in this area which are needed for the quest "A Different Approach." https://www.wowhead.com/classic/quest=9431

Very annoying quest for the rewards. I advise taking it and while questing through out Thousand Needles chances are high you'll run into enough of these guys to get the item. Which bring me to my next point the drop rate is quite low for NPCs that are pretty hard to find.

If you do need to go searching for them, go to the east of the Great Lift and follow the ridge till you get to the centaurs there about 3 or 4 that spawn frequently between there.

Apparently you need to wait until your target has MINED THE ORE first..then you kill them :)

I hade no problem with it as a lvl 27 rouge ;) I got the Ore from a lvl 30 Surveyor on LoC 65,48 in Thousand Needles ;o)

I followed "Easy to find" from tigerlili as well. Got my ore on the second kill. Literally, soon as you go up the little incline out of shimmering flats, go right to the mountain wall turn left, and you should see a few panthers and maybe a vortex. Should see a few Gravelsnout Surveyors near the small shack.

I found it between 65,51 - 67,51, watch for the respawn right where the round boulder is up against a small mountain. It seemed every 5-10 minutes a surveyor or someone similar would come around, it was an eventual drop. DO NOT LEAVE THIS AREA.

For those without Cosmos, if you are to come out of Shimmering Flats and take the main road (the one that is almost a straight line through Thousand Needles,) on the map you'll notice that immediately there are 2 hills to the left and one to the right, GO TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RIGHT MOUNTAIN. Do not go past this mountain.

go to coords 66,51 then there's a big chance that you will see mobs who are called gravelsnout diggers. Keep killing those mobs until you have the ore sample. I got mine in one kill :)

Apparently the ore is only found on diggers and surveyors and apparently you need to let them dig before killing them.

I must have killed 15 diggers just after they dug. I noticed however that the one time I finally got the ore, the digger took a break and wiped his brow while digging. Thinking this might be a clue, I destroyed my ore sample and followed three more diggers around and waited until each dug but also did the brow wipe animation then proceeded to kill the digger. Each of the three times I got the ore sample.

64,49 found one digger, waited for him to dig and wipe his brow or whatever, then killed him. No sample. Got jumped by some wandering mobs, died, came back. Found another digger walking around in the middle of the area doing nothing but walking around aimlessly. Attacked him, killed him, he had the sample.

There is nothing magical about this quest.

You dont need to wait for them to dig.

The digger I killed has JUST SPAWNED.

I got the ore sample off the first Kobold I found, a Gravesnout Digger (29), due east of the elevators coming down from Freewind Post .

The Oricish War Sword (binds on pickup) that you get as a reward sells for 30 silver to vendors.

If you happen across Gibblesnik in Thousand Needles (sorry - no loc) he also drops the unrefined ore.

He wasn't especially difficult to kill as a lvl 27 warlock given he's only lvl 28.

This quest totally sucks....I've killed like 10 of these guys (when I can finally find them!) and they haven't dropped the ore yet. :( Worse yet, I'm getting stuff like "large stone" and crap like that which is only a 1% drop compared to the 15% drop of the ore. uggghhhh!

If you actually READ the quest, it says Diggers and Surveyors, therefore that means they don't drop from a Kobold. Oh and you don't need timing e.g. "Before he swings or it wont work!1!" and "I wanna add that kill the mob _while_ he is _digging_ (not after, not before, while he is swinging the pick)", you people are just pathetic so just do the quest and shut up you excuses for mentally retarded apes. -.- and don't bother replying b!tches...

well i killed one whilst he was mining like the first post said, he didnt drop, then went further down and didnt see the surveyor so accidently aggrod no drop now ive been waiting ages for a respawn :(

go like you are going to the flats make a hard left you'lll see alot of stalkers and a pilar .there is a digger getting oil . he'll getthe sample and t hen attack you if you tme it just right !1 time kill and sample

Feh. I've killed hundreds of the little bastards before, during, and after mining, and nothing yet. Darn quest is green already...was orange when I started it.

Seems to be 3 different type of Kobolds in the area:
Gravelsnout Digger
Gravelsnout Surveyor
Gravelsnout Kobold.

I've killed tons of 'Kobolds' and no drop.
Ur best bet is the diggers.

I solod this at 25 with my loc, took me about 1hour for it to drop but eventually it did off a 30 servayor

I got mine off Gibblesnik, a rare named kobold. I was near a cloud serpent nest around loc 55, 50.

When i look up a quest i don't give a hoot how or what, I need to know where and not with cord. A guide is suppose to be informative not braggin! Why is it so hard to give directions? Dang i looked here cause thouttbot wasn't helpin much either and i usually play along! Hard to find things sometimes without help, Sorry but just kinda ticks me off.

Found mine at 59,53 was looking it up on here where to find the digger went back to WoW and i was being attacked by a digger killed him and got the ore!

Easy to do. Keep in mind that you'll need to allow the Gravelsnout Digger to mine the ore before you kill him. The mobs you need are in this general loc: 57,57.

i've been lettin em dig, but no one is dropping. and i don't have whatever shows coordinates, is it far nw in thousand needles, or closer to the shimmering flats, cause i'm down by the flats

I tried this quest, took me 5 hours to do, i took a tally of how many of the kobolds i killed. I killed 36 of them, and the ore never droped. So I dumped it.

Just finished this one, was heading to the 66,50 spot when one walked across the road in front of me at about 64,54. Dropped the ore, and a green axe as well.

I did this solo at level 25 troll shaman. I killed a lvl 30 sovoyer and he dropped it.

At first, I read these posts, and thought this quest would take forever. But I just went to the NE part of 1k needles, right near Shimmering Flats, and I only had to kill 2 diggers to find the ore. And i got some sweet shoulders with the drop too.

found mine off gibblesnick at 60, 58 or southeast of freewind post. he wasn't digging, just roaming around. Fairly easy kill. he also dropped some decent gloves

That is freaky! I've had this quest in my queue for a long time and I never got one when I was trying, I looked it up here on a whim and saw the 66,50 coords. I walk over there and it drops off the only kobold in the area, right at the same spot. Awesome!

Killed multiple throughout my questing in the zone, but finally it dropped from there.

i'd say, do not walk to 1k needles just for this quest, you're gonna be wasting your time. do it as part of other quests

Only the Gravelsnout Surveyors and Diggers can drop the ore sample, as well as the rare mob Gibblesnik. Don't bother with any of the other Kobolds in the zone.

The drop rate on the ore sample is actually quite high, provided you manage to find a kobold, but they don't group together anywhere and they're few and far between across the zone, so you'll waste most of your time just trying to find one. It's not really worth going out of your way to do this quest unless you're a completionist or you want Orgrimmar rep, considering the reward for this is as vendor trash as vendor trash gets.

The location, where I found a minner "Gravelsnout Digger" with a visibled "full bag of minings" on his back were 11.5 / 22.3. It takes ~20 mins for me to found him with an expected good :)

Super fun quest 4 total mobs who can drop it and only like a 40% chance fun fun

and they seem to have a long respawn so come in an a hour and might get another shot.
