Incendius' Race to Open the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj on a Small Server

of the Incendius (US-PvP) server has posted a
spreadsheet
on Reddit showing the servers progress in collecting materials in preparation for the upcoming Ahn'Qiraj War Effort. While news to no one that many servers have been stockpiling for this event, it's proof of how even a relatively small server without many notable large raiding guilds have been able to complete this goal ahead of Phase 5.
The real takeaway here is that the upcoming Ahn'Qiraj event isn't going to play out the same way Vanilla veterans remember. At the time, players had no real idea of what was coming or exactly what it would lead to, much less the ability to prepare for it, but just as players have spent years min-maxing classes and raid strategies, so too have they become prepared for this historical event. While certainly some servers will still not open the gates for quite some time, the fact that a server as small as Incendius has already managed to prioritize and accomplish this goal should be proof in of itself that the larger servers with better established guilds are ready and waiting.
In truth, the War Effort may only last a handful of hours for some servers, although FrigginFargo raises an interesting point in his post, concerning the decision to
complete the war effort
and open the gates immediately, or purposefully delay the opening in order to farm more Scarab Lords. As players may recall, the grueling
32-step questline
required to reforge the
The Scepter of the Shifting Sands
and open the gates requires a minimum of two Blackwing Lair lockouts to finish, but even then the final step in the quest chain can only be repeated within the relatively short
Ten Hour War
following the first ringing of the gong.
This means that while some servers such as Incendius may race to open the gates as quickly as possible, guilds on well coordinated servers could conceivably make deals or strategize in order to allow more players to become Scarab Lords and earn the exceedingly rare
Black Qiraji Resonating Crystal
. It's unlikely that any server will purposefully try to delay the opening beyond that two lockout period, as they'll want to get into Ahn'Qiraj as quickly as possible, though we could very well see some larger guilds try to run two or more clears simultaneously in order to finish the quest line together, thereby allowing them to get more Scarab Lords without delay.
