BlizzCon 2017 Cosplay Winner
were interviewed by the Converted Podcast and discussed the process of creating Hogger:
Here are some of the interesting details:
The Cosplay winner gets $3500 or $2500 and an in-game tribute. KazulGFox is going for the tribute option and is hoping there is a costume toy to turn you into Hogger!
People found Hogger's stage walk hilarious and in character, but it was an accident. With low visibility wearing Hogger, an unexpected stage layout, and a malfunctioning walkie-talkie, Kaz wandered a bit before finding the other cosplayers.
She started building the costume in April, and it took roughly 7 months of work and 500 hours.
Before constructing the costume, there is is a research and retrospective process. She analyzed the level of detail on her past costumes, like Greymane. She also wanted to ensure that Hogger's legs moved like an animal, which required special padding.
One challenge was figuring out how to fit a human into a creature's silhouette--it required many sketches. She looked at costumes to emulate, like movie monsters and Big Bird.
After the pen and paper sketches, she moved onto creating miniatures of Hogger's costume and how it fits on a human body.
She also created a full-scale cardboard prototype of the costume, which allowed her to note structural improvements like pivot points.
If you touched the tongue, Hogger would "bite" you.
Kaz does not plan on competing next year, but creating a costume would be fun!
