, from Mograine EU, is the World First Level 60 in Classic WoW, using a Mage AoE Leveling build Lets take a look at the strategy that he has been using, with upsides and downsides to it.

dinged 60 while grinding mobs by Hearthglen in Western Plaguelands, in front of over 300,000 Twitch viewers, with roughly 79 hours played. Amusingly, he planned on deleting his character after hitting 60, but players flooded him with unopened mail, preventing him from deleting his character.

World First Level 60 Strategy
For maximum efficiency, Jokerd is leveling as a
Frost Mage
, since the class is probably the easiest class to level in Classic, due to multiple benefits like conjuring their own food and drinks and teleports. However, the most important part of it is its high kiting and AoE capabilities.

This is important because of the strategy that he has been using. Instead of leveling normally through quests and some dungeons, Jokerd is leveling mostly using an AoE grind strategy.
The strategy consists of:
Finding high-density groups of normal mobs.
Aggroing them around.
Using
Frost Nova
to root them in place.
Running or
Blink
ing away from them.
Channeling
Blizzard
on top of mobs to damage and slow them.
If the mobs get close,
Frost Nova
and run away again, so you can start channeling
Blizzard
once more.
Finish off low HP mobs with
Arcane Explosion
and
Cone of Cold
.
Loot, drink, and repeat.

Jokerd is using the following talent build:
In the build, you can see many talents to support his strategy, like
Elemental Precision
, to reduce the chance of mobs resisting
Frost Nova
,
Improved Blizzard
and
Permafrost
, both to make
Blizzard
chill the target and make the effect last longer, and
Arctic Reach
to increase
Blizzard
's area. However, there are also defensive elements to the build, as the mage is prone to take some hits while grouping up the mobs, like
Ice Barrier
and
Arcane Resilience
.
Upsides and Downsides to AoE Grinds
The major upside of this method of leveling is speed.Jokerd will likely reach 60 before the end of the fourth day of the launch of Classic, which is amazingly fast. Based on what can be observed in the world and looking at the interest in our database pages, most players are currently in the level 20 range currently.
Another upside that goes unnoticed while watching his stream is the amount of gold that is made. At level 56, this was the current status of his bags:

level 40 mount
. Plus a large amount of BoE world drops and cloth that he can either sell or use
leveling his professions
later on.
The downsides to this strategy all circle around the lack of quest completions, like the reduced reputation standings, or having no progress on important questlines or attunements that players can work on while leveling to 60. By leveling mostly using AoE farming, all those grinds will need to be done after reaching level 60.
