Scarab Lord Hycran has already earned rare and impressive achievements in Classic WoW, such as obtaining the
Black Qiraji Resonating Crystal
, forging
Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros
, being the first player to reach
exalted with Shendralar
and achieve the
Classic version of Insane in the Membrane
, but now adds another to their list upon earning
exalted with the Brood of Nozdormu
to reach a total of 21 exalted reputations!
While perhaps not the first in the world to be beloved by so many different factions in Classic WoW, and abstaining from pursuing exalted with all 22 possible reputations due to the hellacious grind required for
Bloodsail Buccaneers
, Hycran has dedicated an alarming amount of time and effort getting this far, and reflected on that journey via
reddit
.
What a long, strange trip it’s been. Today, I capped off the end of my rep grinding journey by reaching max exalted with the Brood of Nozdormu, bringing my total number of max exalted reputations to 21 of a possible 22 on horde side. While the total amount of available horde reps is 23, the total amount of exalted reputations you can receive is 22 as revered is the highest rank you can achieve with either of the centaur clan (I ride for my Gelkis, I die for my Gelkis).
What started as something to do to kill time blossomed into a number of world firsts that both amused and annoyed my friends and on-lookers. Despite being like DJ Khaled and suffering from success, all good things must come to an end and this will be my last self-congratulatory reddit post for the foreseeable future.
Of course, the first question that comes to mind is, why stop at 21/22, why not catch em all? As I’ve stated in some of my previous threads - Classic World First Exalted with Shendralar, Classic World First Non-Rogue Exalted with Ravenholdt, and Classic World First Insane in the Membrane (but not Darkmoon Faire, oops!) - the final reputation, Bloodsail Buccaneers, requires approximately 25 days /played killing Jazzrik in badlands (a single mob on a 5:30-8:30 variable timer). I’ve been on record as stating I wouldn’t pursue that reputation, both as it is an extremely unappealing prospect generally, and in light of the fact that shortly after finishing my grind to secure my legendary Black Qiraji Resonating Crystal (and my Hand of Ragnaros, which I made the same day as I got my mount, double legendary day, not bad!), I became a father to a beautiful son and would rather spend time with him and his beset upon mother.
I’m certain that someone will come along with all 22/22 on horde side and, unlike previous threads, I’m confident that I’m not the first person who is first to 21 exalted reps, first to max brood, or first to both simultaneously. It’s not even a guarantee that I’m the first horde player to 21/22, although if I’m not, there likely are not more than a handful of people ahead of me merely by virtue of their AQ gates opening before mine did.
On a complete tangent, I pause to note that, in Vanilla, my druid has approximately 125 days played. In that time, the hardest boss he killed was Huhuran. A lot of people in streams and youtube videos slag classic as being “easy” and a “joke”, but the fact is that it is a beyond unfair comparison considering back in the day people played on potatoes with copper wiring sticking out and internet modems that could literally disconnect if your mom picked up the phone. That being said, in approximately 100 days played, Hycran already has much better gear in every aspect than his Vanilla counterpart, and has slain C’thun multiple times. The game is so much better understood and optimized that I was really able to accomplish vastly more in a much shorter amount of time, including getting the scarab mount I never got back in the day, and likely having more fun along the way.
All in all, I feel blessed to have achieved this milestone and credit, as always, the love and support of my guild <Darkness> for my in game success. From begging for runecloth bags in the mid-teens to late night carapace farming sessions, from our first rag kill to persevering on those FUCKing Firemaw pulls, from inappropriately timed mid-raid deathrolls and reminiscing about the days when we could kill Jaina after Onyxia for free gold without getting DHKs, they have stuck with me through thick and thin and I couldn’t have asked for a better guild to be a part of. Our week one full clear of AQ was amazing and it’s onwards and upwards to Naxx from here.
In closing, I note that WoW Classic has not been, is not, nor will ever be a perfect game. As we are all too well aware, there have been and continue to be a number of serious issues that affect the game and negatively impact people’s enjoyment of it. While it can be frustrating at times to feel like nothing is being done or that our voices aren’t being heard, there is one thing you can always do that is within your power: have fun. However you find the game fun, make sure you’re doing that and while things may not be perfect, at least you’ll be enjoying yourself along the way.
Thank you as always for your time and attention. I hope my posts have been amusing and helped you to enjoy the game, if only a little bit.
Be kind to yourselves, and each other.
