While resists are now capped on the low end at 0, -enemy resistance is still useful. As a mage, in my pvp gear I still wear some arcanist/netherwind with fire resist on it. I end up having 60 I think.

If an enemy mage comes up on me and uses fireball, I have a chance of resisting at least some of the damage due to my 60 FR. But if the mage was wearing this ring, the rune of perfection (friendly reward, WSG), and Don Rodrigo's Band (Exalted reward, AV), then it would nullify my 60 fire resist, and the spell would be much more likely to do full damage to me.

Ok i got this today on my shadowpriest.

(i allways chuckle at the shadowpriests wont see this item posts, it is possible just maybe not as easy to get into a raid guild as some other classes. I joined our guild as a healer and eventually when we had to many priests we had to start rotating them out from raids. So i specced pve shadow to take some strain off the priests and to help the guild who had a lack of rogues at that time. A successfull respected guild will never be low on healing priests.)

Im sure its the same for locks and mages (maybe to a lesser extent because they have choices in there spell schools) that some mobs in MC/BWL/AQ have very high resists. Luci, Gehennas and Ebonroc are three that spring to mind when it comes to shadow resist.

Abit about spell penetration.
I recently was farming felguards with the guild for the AQ sceptre quest and those mobs have annoyingly high resistance to shadow. Resists lower your DPS due to global cooldowns and waste your mana (the last thing a shadowpriest needs). At one point i switched some of my +dmg gear over high +int gear , one of the items i changed was shackles of the unscarred (+10 penetration). I immediatly could notice alot more resists and the bonus mana provided by the prophecy bracers in no way made up for the mana lost in extra resists. basically spell penetration is very usefull but against low resist mobs your no doubt better using a basic +dmg ring.

Alright I just scored this ring and now have what I feel is one of the best combos in the game, minus me having the ring from c'thun. I have Ritssyn's ring of chaos and this one. Why is this ring so good? Well the optimal decrease resistance that any lock or mage should have is 20-30. This combined with the warlock curse get you to 95-105 total decrease magical resistance. Average mob is 100-120 resistance. So I just gained a 20% increase chance to not have my spells resisted which in my book equates to around 60-80 extra spell damage. I might be hitting a little less harder, but I more than make up for it now than chance to hit! Casters get ready to bid high for this one in dkp! You want this puppy!

Not to impressive....

best possible ratio: +26/30 = 13/15 = ~19 int

and the -res is almost useless :(

-resistance is certainly not useless!
This mechanic is the only thing that can reduce targets resistances below zero. No debuff can do that anymore.
This ring combined with the WSG trinket (both give -20 resistance, -40 total) you can get vulnerability bonuses of a decent amount, with even more and your vulnerability bonuses will be obscene, especially if you use the Eye of Moam.

No, you can't have negative resists anymore, there is no vulnerability bonus, the end.

It could be better, but with this, Don Rodrigo's Band from AV and the Rune of Perfection from WSG, you have -60 resistance straight away for the enemy, and you can get others, for example the Shackles of the Unscarred give -10, and the 5-Piece set bonus for the Arcanist set is -10 again, so if the enemy had anything less than 80 Reistance to your spell, they would have 0 :D, and I think this stacks with the Warlock's Curses, so -80 - 75 = -155 resistance, unfortunately though, it can't go into negative resistance... the +vulnerability bonuses for Warlocks then would be godly...

FYI, most people are *massively* underestimating the value of spell penetration gear right now. According to the spell dmg formulas, as long as your target has any resistance left (and most raid mobs have quite a bit more than 75 resistance, so warlock curses aren't bringing them to zero) 4 spell penetration will reduce the avg amount of damage the target resists by 1%. Sign me up for +26dmg, +5% expected spell dmg.

Although resistances isn't too much of a deal in PvE, it is exceptionally important in PvP. And combining something like this with the AV ring is a huge boon for non-warlocks who can't reduce resistances at a whim.

Usually, warlocks have lots of resistances, thanks to demonology abilities.

This ring, together with Don Rodrigo, Rune of Perfection and Shackles of the Unscarred, can be a very good boost to opponent's resistance lowering.

There are some good items for this purpose in the game, don't underexistimate them, cuz they are really good in PvP.
