Anathema is the counter-part of the priest staff Benediction (https://www.wowhead.com/classic/item=18608). Anathema is a great staff not only because it looks cool, but because you can switch between Benediction to increase your healing abilities or Anathema to increase your Shadow Damage abilities. Although Shadowpriests call this item the "Noob staff" and Holy/Disc priests call it the "Insta PvP Death staff", it is a great staff and never should be underestimated.

To create the Anathema/Benediction, you must aquire these items first:

Eye of Shadow: https://www.wowhead.com/classic/item=18665
This item can be farmed off any Elite Demons (including Kazzak who drops it almost all the time) or bought off in the AH.

Eye of Divinity: https://www.wowhead.com/classic/item=18646
This can be taken from Major Domo from Molten Core, he has a 50% chance to drop it (or take it from his chest).

Being a shadow priest, I love this staff. 69 to Shadow combined with 20 Shadow to gloves as well as other +Damage gear can wreak some havok. I have had Vampiric Embrace ticks for 100+ when using mindflay. In a raid I was placed in a caster DPS grp and with VE and VT kept their health and mana almost full. This staff is a huge buff imho.

I would suggest a +20 spirit enchant to the staff for two reasons.

1.) +20 Spirit enchant is a relativly cheap enchant
2.) The added spirit is very useful with the talent Spirit tap

The combination of spirit, mana per 5, and +damage is very important. I find that this enchant balances the staff very well.

This weapon is obviously priest only, and can be obtained through a quest line beginning with the Eye of Divinity found in Majordomo's chest after defeating him in the Molten Core. When you complete the quest, you will recieve Benediction. When you use Benediction by right-clicking it, you can turn it into this staff which suits a shadow priest very well and looks very cool. Benediction is the healing version of the staff.

As a shadow priest that sometimes needs to heal (e.g. DPS on trash mobs, heal on bosses), I find it useful to bring another weapon for healing on raids, because of the 30 minute cooldown.

To higz: it doesn't require a reagent to swap, but can only swap once every 30 mins

To Gene Starwind: with 5/5 Darkness and Shadowform, the base damage of Mind Blast is around 700. My highest crit record is 13xx.

Today, was a sad day :(
I had to go to the hospital for an eye operation, my eyes had bleeded like sh*t since i read this forum.
They still hurt, but I'll get over it, and for the n00bs who don't know how to get it, its kinda easy:

-just go to Molten Core, beat one of the last bosses 578875 times for part 1. and hope you bid enough DKPs
-try and beat the priest quest for part 2.(usually takes 5-6 tries, the quest can be done every 2 hours)
-kill the demons south in winterspring, with a 5 man party (0.2% chance on dropping part 3)

Will take you about a month to get it, easy eh?
the hardest part is part one, because it's all about luck, you have to be very skilled to complete part 2 and also very lucky to get part 3.

It's a lottery, nothing else.

I just wanted to reply to some of the questions above. The casting time to transform the staff is about 1 second, and you CAN do the tranformation during combat. The staff can only have one enchant on it, which it applies to both forms, and it also retains the same durability loss when transformed as well. The cooldown on transformation is 30 minutes.

It's a fun toy!

To get Benediction/Anathema, priest must do this:

1. Eye of Divinity - You get this by defeating Majordomo Executus in Molten Core, the final boss before Ragnaros. When you defeat him he submits and you are able to loot his chest. There is a 50% chance that it will contain the Eye of Divinity, otherwise it will hold the Ancient Petrified Leaf which is part of the hunter epic quest. Majordomo is a difficult fight and you will need to be in an experienced raiding guild in order to defeat him.

2. Eye of Shadow - You can get this by farming high level elite demons in Winterspring or Blasted Lands. You will need a group of people to farm these demons, and the Eye has a low drop rate (however it has increased significantly since the last patch). Alternatively, you can kill Lord Kazzak in the Blasted Lands, a 40-man outdoor raid boss; he drops the Eye of Shadow 100% of the time.

3. Epic Quest Encounter - Finally, after you have both Eyes, you are ready to do the quest that will complete the staff. This quest is done in the Eastern Plaguelands. You must have the Eye of Divinity equipped in order to see the quest giver. The quest involves protecting several waves of peasants from attacks as they travel from a cave to the quest giver. The quest, while hard, is not overly difficult as long as you bring the right tools to the fight. You can find guides on how to complete this quest from a number of sources.

As you can see, getting Benediction/Anathema is no small task. The biggest roadblock most will encounter is finding a guild that can defeat Majordomo; I've just recently joined a guild that has him on farm status, so it's just a matter of time as I wait for my turn to loot the Eye. Other than that you could technically complete the rest solo and with pick-ups. However, if this is not an option for you, don't fret. There are a number of blue staves available that can fill the rolls of Benediction/Anathema while you wait for your opportunity to get this great item.

Benediction and Anathema is the same staff, just the light and dark side of it. Benediction, being the light side, increases healing - While Anathema, the dark side, increases shadow damage. This staff is only obtainable by priest, and you can only switch from light to dark once every 30 minutes, and vice versa.

I did they quest today with 2 other priests. The priest that phsicly walks up to eris (the quest giver) and accepts the quest is the only one that can move. the other 2 priests will get a promt asking id they want to start it, be sure u are in place before u say yes. it is best to put a person in the front (at the cave) in the middle and one in the back. the person in front does do a lil more than the rest he is the one that the skellies attack first. THE OTHER 2 PIRESTS CANNOT MOVE! a demon will pop up and one shot you if u do move. soulstone is nice to have if u accidently move and die pop SS u wont fail. if u die and dont have SS dont release your spirit.
it is good to have
*about 20 oils of immolation (the oil of immo kills the skellys that attack u in about two shots)
*at least 2 major mana pots
*healthstone
*health pots
*brilliant mana oil works wonders!
* Soulstone jus in case
Use renew, and flash heals (only when desperatly needed) use cure disease not abolish! cure disease saves mana and works jus fine.
Its all about mana management.
I tried it 6 times solo and failed until i grouped for it. much much easier.

You guys all say that this quest is hard to do solo and tried 6 times before you got a second priest or 2 to help. I am a shadow priest first of all, and I did this quest solo on my second attempt. My first attempt was to see how it would be and second to do it for real. Extremely easy. used Abolish Disease cause some of the peasents had more then one and it was useful and I used flash heal/renew. Oil of Immolation ftw against skellies. And before the 1.11 patch, you were able to use the Spectral Essence to see the quest giver. Now it is Eye of Divinity only. I also helped a friend do it and honestly...it was way too easy to do it with help...very dissappointing.

With the new 2.01 patch, having one shadow priest for end game raiding becomes effective. Not only can a shadow priest cast Misery (+5 spell damage) but also Shadow Weaving (+15% shadow spell damage) The warlock are loving you.

For those wondering, VE/VT does NOT give healing and mana regen to the entire raid; it only applies to the group the shadow priest is in.

1000 dps=50 mana. To respond to that comment. Assume you are in a full group of casters, you cast one mindblast (I crit at 1200) you have given each and every member of your party 50 mana. In a long fight imagine how many mindflays a shadow priest does....Also keep in mind Shadow word pain...Now keep in mind decent shadow priest have reasonably high crit rates....Care to restate your point?

Not sure about this, but can the eye of shadow drop from kazzak now, seeing as he is gone? or is he not gone, i think he may be in the outlands but then id just rather farm WS for eye of shadow.... sorry if im ignorant to this situation.

yeah hes only hard cuz u can kill him at 70 instead of 60, plus with this advantage u can down him in 1/3 the time it took to down pre-Bc kazzak, sorry for any spelling mistakes

This might anger priests and the anal retentive but Im a druid and Im going to roll on the components to build this and Benedictine. The best staff Ive seen for a druid besides this is the amberseal keeper which doesnt even compare to this. So what if it also happens to boost shadow spells....

If anyone knows of a better weapon for caster/healer druids let me know, if there isnt one Blizzard pls supply one

first of all, a hunter wouldnt get any use of it. second of all, only priests can obtain this. and third of all, we get a cool bow a quiver AND a staff.... id like to see a priest solo four damn demons.... and to all hunters who want all wepons.. STICK TO THE ONES WE CAN GET! im tired of hearing hunters saying: i want, to everything.. btw, to think of this staff, i might reroll a priest :P

I personally think that Benediction would be a better hunter weapon than Anathema- Perhaps the hunter who wields it would be blessed by Blizzard and given some sort of Regen ability, seeing as how we're the only class that doesn't have any type of Self-Regen ability for our mana or our health. =D

Why are people so lazy / stupid. Every item you see someone asks a question that can be answered simply by looking at the item, In this case it is "What's its cooldown to switch between Benediction / Anathema?" Look up genious, its 30 minutes.

Stop wasting yours / ours time by asking, when the answer is RIGHT there for you to discover yourself in 15 seconds.
