I think you're missing the point.
What they mean is some people prefer a fancy, gourmet looking sauce when they see the two on the shelf in the jars. The fancy label is appealing. But in a blind taste test most people prefer the taste of prego, according to the commercial. I like prego myself. But that's not what they said. What bugs me is that they say "Some people prefer this jar . Others prefer this sauce . Based on the statement and what is shown, they are the same thing.

I agree that they're basically talking out of their collective asses.
What also bothers me is that they're called "Prego", which is often used as a slang for "pregnant". No big connection at first really, but then they go and make their slogan "It's in there". It is probably supposed to mean a secret ingredient in the case of the sauce. But if you say a woman is "Prego" and then follow that up with "It's in there", you're talking about a baby.
This sounds like a long, round-about way to put it, but in my head it all instantly clicked when I first saw this advert. They're basically saying they put babies in their sauce.
I mean, wtf?

I mean, wtf?I don't think of babies in my sauce, but I don't want to think about pregnancy at all while I'm eating, so I'm in the same boat as far as word association goes... :P

When they say some people prefer this jar, they mean some people prefer Prego based on name. When they say some people prefer this sauce, it's meaning that they like the sauce (assuming that it's homemade). The connection they are making is that sauce from that jar = the "homemade" sauce.
If that's what they meant, they wouldn't have put a generic label on the jar in the pot. They would've put a Prego label on it.

The jars look basically the same.
And I've not looking too far into it. My mind interpreted it as "Some people like this sauce that comes in a jar. Some people like this good looking pasta sauce! *pan over to Prego jar*."
