PvP Honor Ranking System Overview - WoW Classic

By Neryssa Updated: 2025/01/05

Introduction to the WoW Classic PvP Honor Ranking SystemWhen will PVP Ranking become available in WoW Classic?Ranks 12-14Obtaining Honorable Kills

As you participate in any PvP content, you will start earning Honorable Kills (HKs). A HK is awarded when you or someone in your group kill a player of the opposite faction within 11 levels of you. For a level 60 player, only players level 49 or above would count as Honorable Kills.

Not all HKs have the same value. Every HK comes with a certain amount of Honor Points. Honor is measured by what Rank the enemy player has. Higher ranks offer more Honor Points than Lower PvP Ranks.

Dishonorable Kills (DKs)Civilian NPCDishonorable Kills negatively affect your Honor rating immediatelyThe power of DKs is demonstrated in this 2006 video. Around 500 DKs is enough to drop you
from Rank 11 (which would take weeks if not months of effort) all the way back to Rank 1!Battlegrounds in WoW ClassicSources of Honor in WoW ClassicHonorable Kills

Character Level - The level of the player matters on how much honor you gain from an HK. If you're level 60, killing a level 60 character will yield more honor than killing a level 50. Killing a grey player, or a player more than 10 levels below yours, awards no Honor.

Your Own Level - The more leveled you are, the more Honor you will gain per kill. Killing a level 60 character with a level 60 gives more Honor than the same situation, but both characters are instead Level 30.

Subsequent Kills - Players killed repeatedly within a 24-hour period will give less honor. The Honor per kill is reduced to 75% on the second kill, 50% on the third kill, and 25% on the fourth kill. Killing a player five or more times within 24 hours of the first kill will award no Honor.

Kills in a Group/Raid - When killing players in a party or a raid, everyone in the party/raid gets an equal share of the Honor gained per kill. Lower levels will receive less Honor per kill than higher leveled characters. If you're too far away from a player being killed, you will not receive Honor even if someone closer to the target did.

Player Rank - Honor Ranks make the target worth more Honor when killed. You will receive more Honor from killing a Knight/Stone Guard character, than from killing a Private/Scout.

Being Present - You need to be close to the enemy and alive to receive any Honor for the kill. An enemy being healed does not mean he will award more Honor points when killed.

Horde: Thrall (Orgrimmar), Cairne Bloodhoof (Thunder Bluff), Lady Sylvanas Windrunner (Undercity)

Battleground ObjectivesGeneral Tips

Battleground objectives give a substantial amount of Honor and are meant to be a big part of your Honor for the week. Don't ignore Battlegrounds if you wish to raise your rank!

While repeated kills give you less Honor, they still count towards your kill ratio for the week. You can easily get a few solo kills early in the day, and join a raid during prime time to meet your quota for the day or week.

If you feel you haven't obtained enough HKs for the week, you can do Battlegrounds or join a PvP raid to obtain more kills before the weekly reset.

Two main questions still remain at this point:

1. Will there be follow in Battlegrounds?

and

2. Will you be able to queue with a full group?

The pvp mounts link is currently broken and leads nowhere.

Comment by Shelvi

Team Size of AB should be 15 instead of 10?

Comment by Binaire

I honestly can't believe they are going back to the whole you have to PvP 40+ hours a week (more like 60 on a busy server) if you want to get ranks in PvP. That s**t destroyed relationships. We asked for vanilla though so I guess they're giving it to us.

Comment by 763750

Do you lose the ability to wield any of the armor or weapons if you lose ranks?

Comment by Daish

delaying the PvP content is going to help kill Classic

its messed up man they are only delaying the content in a attempt to make more people play BFA while they wait for this stuff

being manipulated and having the content held back for no reason is bull^&*!

Comment by Mitroden

Is the weekly CP calculation based on ALL players (Horde and Alliance) on the server, or all players in your faction?

I ask as we have 30% alliance on our server so it may be VERY difficult for us to HK's against Horde and therefore CP's if we're compared against Horde and Alliance on the server vs just being calculated against the Alliance.

Comment by Itsversayce

Subsequent Kills - Players killed repeatedly within a 24-hour period will give less honor. The Honor per kill is reduced to 75% on the second kill, 50% on the third kill, and 25% on the fourth kill. Killing a player five or more times within 24 hours of the first kill will award no Honor.

This was changed in Patch 1.12. Subsequent Kills diminish at 10% per kill instead of 25%.

Question: How much rating is each rank of player worth on the first kill? Like say as a Private killing another Private, how much rating do I get?

Is it possible to get rank 4+ in this first week, or is there some kind of honor lock preventing such things?

Comment by Tellasar

How many rank ups you can get per week? Can you go from rank 0 to rank 5 in one week for example?

Comment by Racik

The part that says "For a level 60 player, players of level 49 and above will count as Honorable Kills" is incorrect. Players at level 48 is the minimum not 49.

My main from back in the early days proudly has the title Knight ( rank 6 ) and that took a lot of Pvp and battle grounds and a lot of HKs to recive that title and honor but now playing on a PvE sever before batle grounds have been releaced I have already seen Master Sergeants with as few as a 1000 Hks is this going to be adressed ?

WTF? WSG DID NOT come out in June 05...It came out in Late January '05! Its been winding me up badly that this misinformation is floating around. It's bad enough that Blizzard had to buy back all the Servers just to rebuild the game, now they don't even know when stuff originally released.

I got together with my now Fiance on February 11th 2005. WSG Was already out at that point. It's one of the first things she saw me doing in WoW. AV came out around June or July. I played it on my Nelf Hunter "Haldir" originally, I stopped playing him when I got to lvl 44 and decided to make a Gnome Rogue called Wizzynoise, and I remember making that on my Birthday 29th March 2005. I did WSG on that too, stopped around 40, and made a Nelf Druid in june, got to 60 and instantly got invited to a guild doing MC and wanted a Resto druid around july, they geared me up in 2 weeks, then shortly after BWL released, etc etc...

The 1.5 patch must of been when they changed the queue up for WSG adding warroom queueing, instead of having to manually walk into the shiny entrance of WSG (N.Barrens for Horde, S.West Ashenvale for Alliance) to activate your want to queue up for that BG....It was definitely around Summer when they did that for various reasons.

WSG released about a month "before" MC released. MC was not available at launch.

I still have all the original manually downloaded patches in succession from 1.0.? all the way up to 3.0 (somewhere) theres loads of them, even tiny little bug fix patches all the way up to the huge expansion 'change over' patches.

Should I find them and send them to Blizzard as proof? Who do I need to speak to to get this BS sorted?

Because they've got most of the release dates entirely wrong so far.

I must be stupid because I've looked over this twice and I still don't understand. If I look at my this week honor and it says 60,000. I multiply that by 5 to get my ranking points? Or do they mean your HKs? I'm very confused by the mention of contribution points and ranking points since there is nowhere that says contribution points in the game that I can see. Can anyone help me?

Comment by Trix01

"Every HK comes with a certain amount of Honor Contribution Points (which we will be calling CPs). CPs are measured by how much PvP experience you have, and killing a player with high amounts of CPs will award you more CPs than killing, say, a fresh 60 that never really PvP'd before."

Where can I find these mysterious CP's? I see HK's and Honor but not CP's. Have they been removed in classic (as of 1/1/20)?

Comment by bubblgums

Question, If I stop pvp'ing for few weeks, will I ever lose the pvp title in the name such as 'Sergeant Bubblgums' to become only 'bubblgums'?

Comment by dasbaum

How many ranking points do you need for a specific Rank?

Rank 14 = 60000 Rating (0.1% of players)
Rank 13 = 55000 Rating
Rank 12 = 50000 Rating
Rank 11 = 45000 Rating
Rank 10 = 40000 Rating
Rank 09 = 35000 Rating
Rank 08 = 30000 Rating
Rank 07 = 25000 Rating
Rank 06 = 20000 Rating
Rank 05 = 15000 Rating
Rank 04 = 10000 Rating
Rank 03 = 5000 Rating
Rank 02 = 2000 Rating
Rank 01 = 15 Honorable Kills

How many ranking points you get per bracket

Bracket 13 / 01 = 12 000 ranking points - 3 in 1000
Bracket 12 / 02 = 11 000 ranking points - 8 in 1000
Bracket 11 / 03 = 10 000 ranking points - 20 in 1000
Bracket 10 / 04 = 9000 rankings points - 35 in 1000
Bracket 09 / 05 = 8000 ranking points - 60 in 1000
Bracket 08 / 06 = 7000 ranking points - 100 in 1000
Bracket 07 / 07 = 6000 ranking points - 159 in 1000
Bracket 06 / 08 = 5000 ranking points - 228 in 1000
Bracket 05 / 09 = 4000 ranking points - 327 in 1000
Bracket 04 / 10 = 3000 ranking points - 436 in 1000
Bracket 03 / 11 = 2000 ranking points - 566 in 1000
Bracket 02 / 12 = 1000 ranking points - 697 in 1000
Bracket 01 / 13 = 400 ranking points - 845 in 1000

One thing that I havent seen explained. Can I get the rewards from a certain rank even after downranking?

Say I reach rank 3 to get the 10% discount. Next week I dont dod pvp that much andd I eventually get downranked to rank 2. Will I still be able to use the 10% discount since I already got to rank 3 once? What about the gear and mounts from certain ranks? Will I only be able to buy them on the week I got to said ranks, or as long as I reach that rank I can buy the gear from that point onwards even if I'm back at rank 1?

Comment by Ronbearemy

I don't see any mention of level requirements for ranks here. For example, I know at level 29 you can't rank higher than Sergeant, but I'm trying to find out what minimum requirements are for other ranks.
Any input is appreciated.

Comment by cybrmstr

When does the Rank happen? 12 noon? 11? when after the server reboot does the Rank happen?

Comment by biogopher

Can anyone confirm these are the only Rank rewards? I noticed a difference in the cost of flights between me and my brother where he is rank 6 and I am rank 3. I verified we are bother exalted with Stormwind and Ironforge but the cost of the flight between Stormwind and Ironforge for me was 42c and for him was 40. Checked other flights and it seems consistent that he has a higher discount.

Comment by OdellaRedbird

I thought I understood how the ranking system worked, and up until this week it had been working exactly as the information above stated. This has been a very helpful guide. I have also looked at the other information offered in the comments. Please, if anyone can help me better understand I would greatly appreciate it.

So, last week I was Rank 7 with about 20% completion on my progress bar for Rank 8, and my standing was 257. I worked really hard all week and more than doubled my honor and HK's from the previous week. I ended with 157,395 honor and 2574 HK's for the week. My standing jumped to 83. I understand that as I increase in ranks the amount of honor/HK's that are required will increase as well making it require more effort each week to keep pushing that progress bar forward. But I significantly increased my honor, HK's and standing for the week and still did not advance to Rank 8. I tried to reach out of some of my fellow PVPers and just got rude/useless responses.

What am I missing? Why was this not enough to advance at least one rank? Thank you in advance for any help!

Comment by Sillymain

Hey,

Can you add Level requirements for each rank in "Classic WoW Honor Ranks and Titles"?

like minimum level for rank 5 is 38?

Comment by Nezzey

Can this be updated for the new patch?

Comment by Myoron

This is no longer correct with the 1.14.4 PvP update, not sure why it says it's current with patch 1.15.0

Comment by hyperkarma

I am not sure this asked or answered somwhere in SOD case: For example im rank2, so it means i can get up max to rank5 collecting like 60k honor. but if I continue pvping and i get for example 110k honor in that week. So the extra honor will be lost next week, or ill be promoted to rank7? or 110k need from rank5 to rank 7? So if I theroetically grind loads and loads of honor on lvl50 at the moment, will it be saved or not?
