Weekly Classic Wowhead Database Update
03/06/2019 à 14:27
It's a busy time for Classic development on Wowhead, and we thought it would be a good idea to write weekly recaps on our recent improvements and what we have planned next!
Features from the Last Week
Classic Item Stat Filters
were added, such as
drops were manually added, as this information usually relies on the
and we cannot get data that way for high-level content, as the level cap is 30.
On search results, the "Top Results" section displays Classic information, instead of an empty section.
Armor values on items have been fixed.
Quest series information has been moved back into "Quick Facts" so you can easily see quest chains at a glance.
We removed several hundred "test" items from filter results, as well as a few items added via datamining in vanilla, but only obtainable to players in TBC.
We've reviewed all the guide writer applications and have started to send out follow-up emails to potential writers.
In addition, everyone using the
has allowed us to display much more information on quests, items, and NPCs in the 1-30 range including locations, quest completion text, gathering nodes, and droprates!
In the next week or so, we hope to add the following to the site.
We are currently working on a gear planner that can be linked in a similar fashion to the Talent Calc; the basic UI and item selection is done, but we are refining stat formulas.
More filters are coming, including addressing all the bugs with spell filters.
will show what is the top rank of every class ability for your level.
We are removing some of the BFA featured filters like "achievements" on the
We are adding a few more visual cues to make the Classic domain easier to find. For example, a pop-up if you're on the live version of items that exist in Classic, suggesting you try out the Classic domain.
We're also ironing out several more bugs with search, including removing the BFA guides from "Top Guides" on search pages.
More site development is planned for the long-term, beyond these listed features. For example, we'd like to start looking into ways to show "Added in Phase" info to items and filters, but ideally we'd get more clarification from Blizzard on when certain items will be added, like drops from Molten Core.
Why is X Missing?
As we review all the feedback we see on , Reddit, Discord, etc, we wanted to remind people of a few important topics to keep in mind when using the Classic site.
Classic data, including stats on items, will only appear on
. If you look up an item on live Wowhead, it will show the BFA version of the stats. You must be visiting
to see the correct version of these items. You can use the search box on any page on our classic site, such as the
, or if you visit the live page by accident, hit "Classic" to the left of the search box. You can also search for items on Google, but as the Classic site is very new, the Classic pages may not all show up in results yet. If you add a qualifier like "Classic Wowhead" to the search term, it should show up.
As the beta is capped at level 30, we are unable to gather data for content in the 30-60 range. The following information requires a player to complete the content, and then send an upload via the Wowhead Client, in order to display on Wowhead:
NPC locations and maps
Droprates and item sources, including dungeon loot
Vendor Costs and Sold By Tab
Quest Progress and Completion Text
Quest Start and Finish NPCs
Translated NPCs and Quests
Quest Maps and Objectives
Ordered Quest Series
Adding NPCs and Quests
We are trying to circumvent this limitation by adding important things manually, like the dungeon and raid loot tables. However, the
is a much faster, and accurate way, of expanding the database. Datamining allowed us to set up the item database and talent calculator relatively quickly, but the information listed above cannot be acquired via datamining.
