Tier 2 armor tokens can be acquired in Season of Discovery Phase 5, but their drop locations follow a very different pattern from Classic Era Blackwing Lair. Using the
Wowhead Client
, we've been able to gather locations and drop percentages for all of the Season of Discovery Tier 2 armor tokens.
Tier 2 Armor Overview in Season of Discovery
Tier 2 in Classic Era
In vanilla Blackwing Lair, Tier 2 pieces drop from scattered bosses in Molten Core, Onyxia's Lair, and Blackwing Lair, but all bosses dropped the same slot piece for all classes.
Bracers
:
Tranchetripe l'Indompté
Belt
:
Vaelastrasz le Corrompu
Boots
:
Seigneur des couvées Lashlayer
Chest
:
Nefarian
Gloves
:
Gueule-de-feu
,
Rochébène
and

Helms
:
Onyxia
Legs
:
Ragnaros
Shoulders
:
Chromaggus
All of this has changed in Season of Discovery, as Onyxia and Ragnaros do not drop Tier 2 - and this armor is acquired by
turning in tokens to vendors
, not looting wearable armor from a boss.
Tier 2 in Season of Discovery
While players may have assumed that the Tier Tokens for each slot would drop from the same bosses as Classic Era, that is not always the case in Season of Discovery. Some have remained the same, such as Nefarian and chest tokens, but there are many changes to the earlier bosses.
Here is a list of the most common ways to acquire each Tier 2 Token in Season of Discovery:

Other Sources of Tier Tokens
Another Tier 2 difference in Season of Discovery is that Tier tokens can drop from multiple bosses. Looking at the Wowhead Client, there is a "main" boss for each tier token with a very high drop rate (30-50%) and then several other bosses with 5% drop rates. As most encounters drop several tokens, it seems there is a high likelihood one token will be for a specific slot, and the other will be more random from a larger pool of tokens.
Some examples are:
Protège-épaules anciens
displays a 58% drop rate from Chromaggus, but only 4% from Nefarian and 3% from Vael.
Gants draconiens
displays a 53% drop rate from Razorgore, but only 10% from Ebonroc and 9% from Nefarian.
Currently based on the data, it looks like
Vaelastrasz le Corrompu
,
Nefarian
, and
Rochébène
are the bosses who can drop multiple token slots.
In addition, the "Chromatic Hoard" spawns for extra loot when doing hard mode, which contains multiple assorted tier tokens. In this
Nef clip from jokerdtv
, we can see that the cache that spawned after defeating Nefarian contained 4 extra tokens: 2 shoulders, 1 glove, and 1 boot.
