Speculation on the Shadowlands Pre-Patch Date: How Long Did Each WoW Pre-Patch and Event Last?
12/09/2020 à 05:26
Players are wondering when the Shadowlands pre-patch will hit, especially in light of the
announcement that beta was updating to 9.0.2
, so we're taking a look back at the pre-patches and special events from past
Most of the pre-patch lasted only four weeks, with a more-staggered approach taken for
literally set Azeroth on fire, leading to a massive old-world revamp, while
offered several weeks of early-access for the Demon Hunter class. But traditionally the pre-patch hits a month before the expansion with a special themed event added several weeks after.
These events vary in degrees of complexity and noteworthiness, each offering limited-edition rewards like
Tenue de combat bénie de tueur de mort-vivant
Tabard de Theramore
. Some players seem surprised that the
Death's Rising event only appears to have two weeks of content, but looking back, MoP's event only lasted a week and the WoD Iron Horde questline had no timegating.

When could the Shadowlands pre-patch release date be?
So that brings us to
. We know the expansion is launching on October 27, 2020, but the pre-patch date is still a mystery. It appears there are only two chapters to the Death's Rising event, leading to two weeks of content and a relatively-short pre-patch.
Originally, many players thought that the pre-patch would hit on September 22nd, following the final
cinematic premiering the Thursday before. However, Blizzard always gives at least two-week notice for the end of rated PvP seasons, and we haven't received any such notice yet. So the pre-patch launch could be September 29th at the earliest instead then. This would be similar to most other pre-patches like BFA and MoP.
Then we have the matter of the surprise return of the
Impressive Influence Reputation Buff
which lasts for all of September. Blizzard may not want the buff to overlap with the revamped leveling experience, so that could push back the Shadowlands pre-patch to October 6th. This would leave three weeks for the pre-patch which is on the short side, but not that far off from most pre-patches only lasting four weeks.
Based on everything we've read and the lack of an announcement, it seems like
will be on the shorter side, as there's a lot of polish to get done even for the pre-patch, including the revamped leveling experience and item level squish. When do you think the pre-patch is coming?
