So I did my first trade over the internet, through the GTS. Someone offered up the fire starter Fennekin for... eh, the really basic bug pokemon that evolves into the butterfly, that you can catch right in the first forest. So yeah, that was a pretty easy deal. So now I have the fire starter too, which is amazing. As someone who has always been playing on an emulator up until now, this is a pretty ground breaking thing heh.

Edit: Also I spent most of today catching gen 4 legendaries using action replay - yes I am one of those people and idc.

So... this Pokebank is a utility thingy that lets you transfer old mons into the new games, and it is not released yet? And it is coming in late december? The thing with "it's not released yet'' is not mentioned on Serebii, so I didn't know.

I really really want to see, what all the pokemon look like in 6th gen graphics. Empoleon and Swampert are my hot candidates. And I hope I will be able to get them, ofc.

No, thanks. I did get the mystery gift Torchic, who has decided to become my most powerful pokemon no matter how much I train the other ones, mean chicken.

Trade-wise, I managed to evolve my Machop into a Machoke, and I could use some help with getting him up to Machamp. Would you mind trading <whatever> for my Machoke, and than trading him back to me?

Wonder trade I didn't even try yet. Sounds interesting.

Lol I'm sitting on 4 IV Torchics with Speed Boost. ;3 (it took freaking FOREVER to get a perfect Speed Boost Torchic, not to mention I got this early too)

But mkay. I guess I'll wonder trade em off.

Something like that. I'm preparing for it. I actually forced myself to buy Platinum so I could get a "fateful encounter" Shaymin in order to access its op Sky Forme.

Nice Adamant Torchic with Pokérus you have there. What do you mean by "4 IV Torchics"? That they have perfect IV's?

Given these new info's, I might be interested in one. I might be able to repay the favour when I start my Metagross project.

Sorry for that weird-ass trade heh. I just found out I can not trade pokemon that I have taught an HM... and my Machoke had Strength. So I'll have to erase that move first. Will take a while. Many thanks for the Torchic though!

Mind if I ask, how did you breed the Torchic? Did you use a Ditto with high IV's with Destiny Knot, and an Adamant Torchic with Everstone?

I got several Wonder Trades of Pokemon with 4 IVs and the like (people's breeding fodder). I weaved those into the breeding process to eventually get 5 IV Torchic.

I see. I reckon the method that I proposed would be the most efficient, provided that you have a Ditto with maxed IVs. The only catch is that Destiny Knot only passes on 5 IVs out of 6, but you would just have to re-breed until you get a pokemon that has inherited the 5 stats that it actually uses (for an adamant pokemon for instance, that would be everything except for sp. atk, and for a modest pokemon except for atk).

Well, obviously, a second catch is getting a ditto with perfect IVs...

So you didn't want any Egg moves on your Torchic? What moveset/item are you planning to use on him?

Blaziken doesn't really need any egg moves for a physical sweeper strat. You can TM two of his moves (Swords Dance, Poison Jab/other physical offensive move) and then naturally learn his other two needed moves (Hi Jump Kick, Flare Blitz).

So, there is one thing in competetive pokemon that I just don't get. Substitute. How in the hell do you make that work.

It seems like such a bad ability, to give up a bunch of your health to put up a sort of temporary decoy that always dies after a single hit. You waste 1 turn and the opponent wastes 1 turn and you come out of it with lower health, so what's the advantage?

Clearly I must be missing something, because as I read competetive builds, people really do seem to use things like SubPunch sets and Substitute-Baton Passes. When I used to do competetive online battling in Gen4 and early Gen5 on that online battling thing that Smogon had, I have not met a single pokemon using Substitute, so I really haven't got much direct experience.
