The whole deal with dual spec is that you can change the gear and spec in 5s.
Going to Ebon Hold, putting different rune on wep and getting back to group will take lot more than that not to mention you'd probably be needing a warlock in the group.
So no, i dont see how him being a DK makes this more horrible than simple ninja for offspec.
True, but you dont see a tank in the
middle of an encounter
decide that he wants to be dps do you? Its just not realistic. Your
assuming
that said tank decides to dps at the last moment. Not only that, but that you are
assuming
that you can kick a dps and have a backup tank available. Please think about what your going to say before you post it!
What? I am not assuming anything you mentioned. I dont understand a thing from this blabling.
My assumptions.
-we like to do raids as fast as we can - spending 6h in Naxx25 just because people are constantly hearting out and request being summoned back or decide about strategy 20 minutes minimum before each boss pull is not anyones purpouse.
-there are certain encounters where you can be dps at first phase and must be a tank at second, or other way round. Examples are Kelthuzad or Thaddius. There are several places where only 1 tank is needed, while there are few 3 are needed. You suggesting going to Ebon in between each boss? That will take hell like forever... respect the time of your fellow players, seriously.
And heck, if the tank actually did end up deciding that he didnt want to tank the last 2 bosses, you could just summon him back with the summoning stone. (But this is only if your tank wants to be a dps for the last boss fight and you just happen to have a backup tank available). But in all other occasions, you would never roll on a weapon that you already have, unless your a fury warrior.
Its not about anyone deciding, its about comon sense - some bosses require just 1 tank. Staying tank is gimping your raid dps. Respecing dps and changing gear but not changing wep gimps your raids dps.
The only real issue here, is that someone rolled on a weapon that they already had. Which makes another of the same weapon useless.
Death Knights are one of two classes capable of tanking and dpsing with exact same weapon (which i love btw). The other is druid. Druid however doesnt need to change the enchant/runforge on the wep as they enchant Mongoose usually and it works fine for both tanking and dpsing.
Death knights need a proper rune on the weapon. These weapons arent the same if they have different runes. Its ordinary ninjaing for offspec, nothing serious.

I've had pretty good luck with avoiding ninjas... until yesterday. We gathered a PuG for a series of heroic runs. As has been normal all the loot was junk so we passed it to the person who said they could DE and then we could roll for shards at the end. We got through VH, UK, and ToC before we decided to call it quits.
After the Black Knight was down, she sharded all the loot in front of us and told us to roll. While we were rolling, she hearthed and logged out.
You're not Horde on EU Aszune are you? The only reason I ask is cause this happened to me in ToC as well.
My other favourite was also the other day with another Deathtard (I am a DK myself) in a group for VH Hc, who initially said that he would tank, though in the end we got in a Druid tank so he went DPS. His DPS was abysmal at less than 1k! I was about to ask him whether he was still in tanking spec, though his HP was around the 21k mark so possibly not, however as I was about to ask him he says in party chat that 'his dinner is ready' and promptly goes afk just before the 1st boss and we don't see him again until after we have downed Cynagosa when he promptly reappears and needs all the loot that dropped.
He now has the ubiquitous honour of being the first, and only, person on my ignore list.
Apologies for the wall of text above.

Now your talking about raiding when i was talking about a heroic. If you sign on as a tank for a heroic, you are tanking for that heroic. Once again, your example for being dps or tanks for different phases was for a raid, not a heroic. So yes you are assuming that i am talking about a raid. And yes you are assuming that people are constantly needing summons into and out of the instance.
Erm.. when i join lfg i got both tank and dps ticked, i have no clue whether i'll be tanking or dpsing before the whole group gathers.
Youe were talking about encounters. Encounters are both heroics and raids. Also raids are part of the game, the fact you dont do them doesnt mean nobody does. The place where the certain item drops doesnt matter. Offspec is offspec for pving, griding, raids or heroic. Still same offspec.
The moral of this story is to actually
READ
the post, so that you dont
ASSUME
something that is incorrect. Unless you
CANT
or
DONT
read, in which case you shouldn't post in the first place.
Blah blah blah... and so on..
Offspec ninja, nothing special seriously - get your attention elsewhere.

Im the worst ninja ever :/ was tanking heroic toc, and tanking blade dropped. retlol needed it and won claiming "Prot will be my mainspecc!"
Then some caster plate or mail dropped, retlol went "Wow! Omg! Need for my healing set!" i needed too, won and said "Warriors might get mana in the future, and then healing will be my mainspecc".

My old GM played favorites and also lacked a backbone and ran loot council. This was long before Uld came out and a Valorous/Turning Tide FFB mage was in our raid team, was doing anywhere between 1.3k dps to 1.5k dps and was the GM favorite..somehow. He knows she was full of fail b ut because she had a tendency to be a huge %^&*! he wouldnt approach her because we didnt want to upset the princess. When the turning tide dropped for us the first time we heard "Grats <name>".. She was barely above our tanks. She managed to pump out a womping 1.5k dps during our Twilight Vanquisher attempts. She was doing less than the tanks. Long story short we end up getting it ..somehow. She gets the first drake because she was "loyal". Oh and she got all the good caster pieces from loot council first, somehow.
Its not a traditional ninja story. But I felt it was ninja'd in some way.
Im not in that guild anymore :D
