Why choose a PVP server?

If I had to do it over again, I would have never rolled on a PvP server. As it is, I have nine toons on a PvP server and don't want to pay to transfer them all off.
Imo, PvP servers are for the foolish and PvE servers are for the intelligent. There is no notion of fair on PvP server. 9/10 you will be killed by someone 10+ levels higher than you and the other 1/10 will be those your level that wait until you have 3 mobs on you. Even at 70, things don't get better. Yesterday I was attempting the Ogri'la dailies and a group of 3 horde followed me all over the map--killing me 4 times. They weren't out for anything but griefing. They even used a town exploit to kill me once right in front of the guards.
If you're a masochist the PvP is for you. Otherwise, stick to the friendlier PvE.

Reward without the risk ? Where's the challenge in that. I also think PVP require greater intelligence. Your character can't be one dimensional, like in normal servers. You need to develop a hybrid character who is ready for any situation. You better be smart in how you use your talent points or your character will get creamed.
Reliance on your guild in contested area quest also helps to build stronger bonds and polished fighting tactics.
As for the nuisance of dealing with (in my case sneaky Horde's) fighters. Well..nothing is more satisfying then putting in a guild call-to-arms and then following the unsuspecting Hordes as a ghost, calling out their location and see my guild buddies running them down enjoying the last look on an undead stupid face, wishing he had stayed dead. Glorious!

Hehe, I prefer PVP realm. The first time I ran into a horde, was a tauren warior 5 lvls above my 25 holy priest that was more PVE specd... I got my ass handed to me(especially considering I'ld never seen a tauren before, and I looked up and he was standing on the road in ashenvale staring me down, I about #$%^ed my pants! ROFL). But later, he tried it again with a hunter buddy of his, and me and my GF at the time(she had a mage) owned them hard core. Not bad for a noob and his GF. XD I'm currently working on my shadow priest since my holy pali, although usefull, has to have a group for owning pvp noobs.
I might add. If you are on PVP, do us all a favor. GANK, don't CAMP! They should make it so you can emote while stunned or feared. Stupid rogues. Nothing makes me more mad then when I have to log my main and go destroy some 65 cause he think's he's leet camping a 58 that just got to outlands and is working on his gear. I will gank anyone. Camp jerks that think they are leet. If you gank me, I will gank you back. If you fight fair, I will kill you once, and /salute you with respect if you do your thing and let me do mine. I've ganked a toon 5 lvls above mine. Let them respawn and buff up, eat and drink, making it a fair fight, and then the scrub decides to camp me! WTF!!! Don't be a noob. You will get owned. If I have to log my main to take care of a scrub, you will get camped. I keep a list of names of noob horde that need to be owned when I get my dps toon geared for pvp. Now I just need to find a mod that tracks horde of specific names..... Muahaha!

After playing on both server types, I have great regrets on playings on a PvE server.
First of all, PvE servers are extremely boring. No need to look over your shoulder, lest a zealous Alliance is lurking in the dark waiting to take you down once your occupied with a NPC. No need to have a decent spec. I see most (fortunately not all) players having proper specs and equipment, which can be challenging to take down.
You learn faster on a PvP server. It's about survival. You have to stay on top of your game constantly. This means keeping a good spec to counter an ambush. Keeping ones equipment up to date in terms of ones level.
I got so bored getting on my PvE toons that I permanently turned on their PvP sign. I did get ganked a few times but some people, but that's the game that I want to play. A game with a hint, at least, of thrill.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but the thrill of know that some horde or ally (I have horde and ally toons on 3 pvp realms) could be right over the next hill is what keeps me playing the game. As soon as I cross the bridge from Duskwood or walk out of Grom' Gol, my pulse speeds up. I love it.
PVP realms help you figure out what style of play works for you really fast, too =) I have a NE feral druid and a Tauren enhancement shaman (windfury ftw!)...on both of which I have supremely owned ppl 5-7 lvls higher than me.
Nothing is more satisfying than beating the ever-loving crap out of that a&#hole who camped you last week. In fact...I think I'm gonna head to STV now...

You're missing the point. You would be strong for leveling to 70 and then griefing each person who ganked you for hours on end. Rivalry, fighting, grudges and hate is what PvP servers strive on.
Someone said "You can always flag yourself on a PvE server". Yeah... and then what? Find that one other person in an entire zone who happened to flag himself?
