In outland, there are a lot of recipes and things that can only be purchased at a certain reputation level. Having better reputation with a faction allows you to purchase certain goods for cheaper prices (example: ground mounts are cheaper depending on your reputation with the related faction. I think you get an 80% discount if you're exalted). But if you're only pvping, and there's no gear that you'd like to get from certain factions, I say screw the rep grind.

Even pre-Outland, there were some recipes and items that required reputation. For instance, there are some Enchanting recipes you can only get with enough rep from Thorium Brotherhood.
Granted, once BC was released a lot of these recipes were made defunct because more powerful, more-easily attainable versions can be found in Outland... but still...
However, if you're not interested in collecting every pattern, always having the best possible gear, having access to all Heroic content, etc., then rep isn't a big deal.
PS: To get mounts outside of your race's mounts, you have to be at least Exalted with that faction (i.e., Dwarves can get rams regardless, but to get an Elekk a Dwarf has to be Exalted with the Exodar).

Some reputations are interesting be farmed to enchant your gear with Glyphs and Inscriptions.
With my rogue and my warrior, I get to revered with Cenarion Expedition to get the Glyph of Ferocity.
Not mandatory but helpful.

There are head and shoulder enchants that you can only get from rep. Also, there are some very nice gear you can get at exalted.
