Maybe it is just me but I'm getting really peeved with the term "Welfare Epics". Yeah i know they are fairly easy to come by but for some of us (me included) who dont have a chance/time to raid this is the best we are going to get.
Not that this has persoanlly happened to me but being told your opinion doesnt matter or you cant do this or that because u have "welfare epics" is really unfair. I have seen it happen to others.
I dont know maybe I'm just having a /cry but is there anyone else who thinks/feels the same way?
Don't listen to those people who tell you your opinion doesn't matter just because you have PvP gear... seriously, I have mostly vengeful and the rest brutal gear, and I was told today I was a "welfare scrub" by a warrior with a mix of crafted items and greens. You just have to step back, have a quick chuckle, and say to yourself "I guess even brain dead monkeys can hit level 70".
when you had to get ranked up it was a much better system
lol, did you actually get a high rank in the old system?

I think there are too many elitists who use terms like "welfare epics" to deride anyone who does not have the time (in large chunks) to devote to raiding. Grinding BGs takes just as much time, but you can spread it out instead of scheduling your life around WoW.
Also, from a Paladin's perspective, it's a pain to find suitable ret gear for entry-level raiding and heroics by running normal instance. With the exception of the points wasted on resilience, the PvP gear is, in most cases, as good as it gets for a new-to-70 ret paladin who wants to progress without changing specs. Oh, and getting hit-capped in PvP gear is not terribly difficult; I did it in the blue vendor PvP set.

I guess I'll represent the snobby PvE people then. You may think what you want about PvE and fighting scripted/random events or battles. But as far as I'm concerned we "work" for our epics, you get nothing PvE wise for just attending or being there. When it does die what loot that drops is random and you have to compete with 24 (or 9) other people there for the items. If it doesn't die you get nothing but a huge repair bill (plus other expenses such as consumables). Blizzard has lightened that later load a bit thou with marks for flasks and increasing the gold drop and then all the daily quests.
PvP people get things for just showing up. Win or loose you get your points and badges, it's naturally better to win but still everything and everyone is rewarded. Attendance epics, or if you will welfare epics.
Back in the days it took some effort to become and retain the rank of High Warlord (or Grand Marshall if you are sissy alliance). That ment something and your reward was epic gear. Arena rankings and personal ratings doesn't even compare. These days anyone with time can get the equivilant superior PvP gear.
Need welfare epics to do Karazhan? I recall starting that in greens/blue/crafted junk/some heroic drops and some pre-tbc leftovers. Now people need their welfare epics to complete it? Yicks.
... that said why do you care if others call your items for welfare epics in a derogatory manner anyway? It's not like you are going to play with them and they with you so their opinions are irrelevant.

QFT. How can u even compare between time-spent and skill-wise anyway??

But..but..but they won't let me in...
But anyway...I agree with your first and last paragraph

I might have forgotten some after all it was a while ago since they remove that rating system now but High Warlord etc did require a certain amount of HKs to achive but you also had to retain it on a weekly basis. There was a limited amount of High Warlords and officers on the server (or was it over the entire battle group?).
So it wasn't time alone but kills and time. Sure you get hks from other people killing to just by being close etc. That said thou it was not really feasible to just stand around and watch the HKs drop in and attain rank thru those means. It might have worked up to the officer ranks like rank6 or whatever it was but after that it took effort on your part. Sure it wasTIME spent in that fashion since you always managed to kill something but the people I saw back then atleast they knew how to PvP and for that they are worthy of somekinda respect. These days? Not so much really.

People who get hung up on the concept of epics and not the stats are the real noobs. I mean sure the PvP gear is alright and its easy enough to get, however it has no place in PvE. I believe the idea of "Welfare Epics" is a satire of those elitist jerks who think they are special because they got season X on honor and then try to do a raid or heroic with no subsequent experience.

I'm not suggesting they are totally skill less, it's just another kinda skill I guess. That said thou it also kinda depends on when you got your items; Getting S3 today isn't that hard, getting S2 just requires attendance since you buy that for honor and badges. Getting S4 well ok that seems to require some kinda skill.
That said thou does S4 which would be the equivilant gear item level wise of Sunwell and end of BT loot require the same amount of skill or effort? I doubt it, I could be wrong but I doubt that to.
On that note you don't PvE in PvP gear and vice versa. They are just not built for it. Sure I can do damage in PvP while wearing my BT stuff but I'll get pwned as soon as they catch me. I'm not crying about that thou.

*cough* BS *cough*
When the rest of the raid is overgeared, you can bring a newb in greens on a Kara badge run, and they'll get loot for just showing up. I've seen it done. With a good tank and healer, you can carry a sub-par DPS through most heroics (done it) and they'll reap the rewards.
Yes, it is easier to get gear by doing nothing in PvP, but don't even think for a second that everyone in the raid is "working" for their gear.
