Are you on a PvP server? if not, they may not have been flagged at first when you saw them.

As to why you died, I have no idea what would cause that, or why you would have rezzed full health for no reason either.

this also happened to me....in halaa i was on my 70 shammy and a 78 DK was spankin the hell out of the gaurds....i was just watching...didnt click him or anything when all the sudden i was pulled to him and fighting...was not flagged pvp and im on a normal server...ive never seen this b4 or again but i was rather confused

Did you buff the lock that you said was there? If he was flagged that would flag you.

Or buffing a guard will flag you... don't call me on this one though.

UPDATE:

In Darnassus there were a bunch of guys raiding the city. Their names all appeared in yellow until one of them ran really close to me and suddenly he turned red. It had been more than 5 minutes since I'd "died" and even then, why didn't they appear red until they were really close?

I'm so confused...

u had nameplates on. even if u arent flagged, name plate will be red for opposite faction (at least on pvp server)

Buffing guards does NOT flag for PvP. Healing them does though. There are so many unexplained things about PvP flag. For instance, flying over an enemy town does flag me for PvP (on a normal server) although no guard spots me and I attack nobody. This only happens in Northrend, when I fly over an enemy encampment in the Outlands, nothing happens.
When I buff guards it does not flag me for PvP, hell I buffed Thrall the other day when he was being attacked by an enemy raid and remained blue. Then I started healing him and turned green.

Okay, to avoid any more confusion. I'm on a PvP server, so the flagging thing isn't an issue. The guy was in yellow, so how did he attack me when I was on the boat from Auberdine (Alliance territory) to Teldrassil (Alliance Territory)?

I still don't get it. :(

Isn't there a small part of the journey Auberrdine -> Teldrassil in which you enter the Veiled Sea zone (or w/e the sea is called there)? Guess that would be classed as a neutral zone, possibly opening you up for attack.

I remember there being a bug with snake traps a while back, that caused them to activate if the opponent was flagged and you wasn't (play on a normal server, so no flag). Was a pain in the ass being ganked by the snakes, getting flagged defending myself then dieing to the hunter. Could be a similar issue with a DK spell.
