Target casting?

I was wondering is possible to cast a spell on someone without actually targeting them? Last night in 2s I had a mage set to focus to see what and who he was casting on, well he would be targeting my partner while casting a spell but then it would actually hit me without ever him switching to me. I'm somewhat new to pvp so I am not sure if this is some type of pvp trick that I didn't know about. I play warrior so spell reflects helps a lot. Mainly he would be targeting my healer to polymorph him then whenever he would fully cast it I would polymorph me without him ever switching his focus Target on me.

Macro.
/cast spellname
For example
#showtooltip Polymorph
/cast Polymorph
The first line is only to keep polymorph's tooltip, and is optional.

So predicting a spell reflect is a little bit harder than just watching who they are targeting and the cast time. Any tricks on how to help anticipate who the spell is actually intended for?

Just try to think about who they have more to gain from sheeping (i.e. you if you're partnered with a healer and they're trying to burn your partner). For spells other than poly you'll have a harder time guessing, but I don't think people often macro non-cc spells to a focus cast. Depends on your comp, but if you're playing with a healer it's probably a good bet that if someone is casting hex or poly, it's at you.
