Azuka could not have woken up in a better place. The streets of Takaneko were crowded with people, all hurrying to their separate destinations. Skyscrapers towered above their limousine in a dazzling array of reflective sunlight. Azuka could only imagine the nightlife that took place here. If New York City had not already taken the title, she would have thought
this
was the city that never sleeps—even midday!
"Wouldn't have thought I would have the pleasure of seeing such a remarkable place," Azuka thought out loud, peering through the darkened windows of the limousine.

"Eh?" Crassus cocked his ear towards the woman. "Wossat?"

"Okay. Just a second. I'm..." There was a click from beneath the table. A hum began to fill the air, Tell's feet sticking out from beneath seeming to twitch and move, thrumming and vibrating as though he were constantly moving, yet failed to actually do so. "I guess so. It's hard when your memories are screwed up. Can't remember specifics about my past, but nothing I know has any recollection of anything this grand. I could have been born into a hell hole for all I know," Azuka said, returning the gaze of Crassus. "Part of the reason I'm with you—this mission gives me purpose that my lost memories can't give me right now."

"Nah." Crassus unrolled the window. He reached out and grabbed Slash's beer from her, then tossed it out into the street.
"Hey!" the girl cried, reaching as though to grab her drink already gone. "I was drinking that! Not cool Crassus."
"Shut it. We're stoppin' soon so sober the %^&* up."
Slash pouted and slouched in her seat. Crossing ehr arms she stuck out her lower lip petulantly. "So not cool. Ass."

"It won't take very long," Mr. Hé interjected smoothly. "And we can, of course, compensate you for your time."
Zhang nodded at Oscar. "Excellent," he said. "Finnegan, if you would kindly prepare the testing room." Finnegan pushed himself off of the table and vanished through the door. "It should only take a moment or two, and then we'll be ready."

The voice died and the call ended.
Tell stopped shuddering. He pushed himself out from beneath the desk, beaming. "Takaneko Lake," he said.

“Who do you think would know more, the police or the media?” Azuka asked, stepping out of the limousine. She scanned the scene looking for anyone who seemed competent enough to know of the situation. With the reporters frantically running about trying to get setup and the police officers huddled around each other in conversation, their chances of finding said person seemed slim.

"Make sure you don't get in trouble," Oscar said sympathetically to the Chinese teen, then turned again to Zhang. "Very well. May we in the meantime, if I may be so bold, discuss your intentions with bringing us here?"

"Bluh..." Slash said, flopping out of the limo reluctantly. She careened over to a bench and lay down on it, covering her eyes with an arm. Raising her other, she limply pointed at Leopold. "I'm with the hot guy. Let's do the thing that has the minimal effort."
