There's two specs I've been eying for survival in 3.0.8:
The traditional spec:

And a slightly more interesting one...:

Based on gear level, specs change slightly.
on your interesting spec, why would you choose savage strikes? do you plan on being in melee? also, you might want to put that focus fire point into GftT. As survival, you will be critting alot and your pet does need that focus to do their stuff.

i realized that after i posted and while looking at the spec more closely.
if he is going for that spec, then why not entrapment talent?
the 4 sec root should be long enough to get 2 arcane shots and explosive in there as well, maybe, if you disengage right. And, its better for this than Wyvern right?
like
this
the last point in GftT can be put almost anywhere.

I did some lvl 80 target dummy testing on the PTR. Keep in mind this is just me on target and I would imagine the numbers would be different with full raid buffs, but the results the same. My current build is the 50/21 BM spec. The steady shot was doing about 30% less damage and my overall dps was about 15-20% lower than that same spec on live. I also tried MM and Survival on the PTR and was doing about 15-20% MORE dps than my live 50/21 build! Considering it's been a while since I have played MM and Survival, my shot rotation wasn't as fluid and my glyphs were not changed out, I can only do more dps in the future.
The pet I used for all this was my cat. Also keep in mind that I didn't do any "hard core" calculations. But although the numbers may be different, I can't imagine the results (which build does more dps) would be different. Anyone with "hard core" calculations, feel free to prove me wrong (I find most threads on elitist jerks to be too long to sort through, if the site is even up in the first place).
I say this reluctantly, but if they were trying to "balance" hunter dps, they failed as MM and Survival now seems to be doing MORE dps than the BM 50/21 spec on live that everyone was complaining about doing too much damage. This has me somewhat worried.
EDIT: For some clarity.
