You should probably choose a healing or tanking class. And since it is her first character, she should probably pick a DPS or if she wants a healing class then a priest, thats her decision though, just my opinion, Discipline priest.. If she doesn't know what to pick, I would suggest a ranged class, Warlock or Hunter. Just make sure she doesn't mess up in a bad way if she chooses a hunter. People are mean.

I would also, not go with Worgen or Goblin, as the area is heavily phased, and I personally find it hard to keep track of phases when playing with my friend.

I just rolled a priest and I am having a blast so far, he is lvl39 already and I have Enchanting and Tailoring both maxxed at 300 so far, never did that before heh. Its a refreshment for me since almost all my toons are melee plate or mail wearing classes.

For really new players, I would recommend against playing:
- Balance Druids, Shadow Priests or Elemental Shaman (easy to go OOM at the lower levels)
- non-Demonology Warlocks (some people might not be patient enough with the whole "DoT and wait for them to die" style of playing)

After 4 years of me being stubborn my wife is giving in and will play ONE night a week with me ;-)

Watch out. Soon it'll be "not tonight honey, we have a raid coming up"
