My gold strategy was allways skinning and mining till 70 and epic flight mount ( or just flying mount ) then I level a crafting profession.

Honestly, money can buy the majority of the things you could craft. The top-tier BoP craftable equipment sets aren't the best (you can get better in instances), so you'd be better off with money to buy things from the AH and getting stuff made for you.
