Finally have 100 smithing, enchanting, and alchemy on my final charachter.
Heh, the grinding must have taken a while. Smithing is easy and Enchanting is not too bad, but Alchemy? CRINGE.
I think I got to about 60 alchemy with my best character so far and that took ages.
The easy way, I found, was to gather snowberries along the path west of windhelm, and the dragon's tounge in the hot springs north of riften. Then combine them. Makes potions by the hundreds, and then sell them for a boatload of cash.

So, as I was recently changing my drive, I didn't carry any of my old saves over, and had to start over. But that was a week ago, so my new character fares decently already.
I made a Nord woman warrior, and I specialise in 2-handed weapons and heavy armor. I have managed to max Smithing already, and run around with a full set of daedric plate and a daedric two-hander. Other than 2H + heavy armor, I did not really know what to spec into, so I branched as usual into Alchemy and Enchanting and got a few perks in Speech.
I wouldn't mind trying to max out speech on this character actually. But only the vendor-related branch, not the persuasion/bribing/intimidate crap.
So far I managed to:
Unlock the dragons through the Whiterun quest, didn't go to visit Greybeards yet. Also it's sexy how the female adventurer yells "FUS" <3
Become the leader of the Companions. There was one moment in the questline where I was seriously sad about, you know, that one guy getting killed prematurely. But it all ended well so I am happy.
Become a member of the Stormcloaks and did a few quests for them. I do not like what I did at Whiterun :( Poor city got beaten and stuff. It was also kind of silly how the Stormcloaks were "besieging" a city with a total of
nine
soldiers, including me. I know I know, engine limitations again.
Become a member of the Dark Brotherhood. I sure didn't expect that the super speshl armor would be thrown at me right as I cross the doorway rofl, but so far they are pretty awesome. And Babette is the cutest thing ever <3
Dig through a lot of crypts I have never seen up to now. I also did the quest that you get from the Lost Legends book for the first time, and it had boss fights tougher than Alduin. GG. I so hate it when they use the disarming shout on me and I have to search for my beloved blade all over the place.

no she's not >.< she's ADORABLE.
I really wish she was a recruitable party member, and/or that you could adopt her after getting hitched. Its a shame she has such a small role on the game, that is perhaps the character with the most un-used potential in the entire frikking game.

Adopt her? Dude ugh. She is adorable alright, but she is still a 300 years old vampire with the mind of an adult.

I wonder. Are any of you guys actively using a lot of shouts? For me Shouts are just the thing in the background and I use them extremely rarely... but I do love collecting them and obtaining new ones.
I remember I used to use the Detect Life with my assassin girl for a while but then I stopped using it, and now with my Nord girl, I went for like 25 levels without even unlocking them heh.

I use the thunder storm one if I want to battle in the rain for a more epic feeling.

mostly just against dragons. Against common foes, it feels like overkill.

Which reminds me I have never actually tried a fully upgraded Yol (Fire breath) with the Paarthurnax buff. The highest amount of words I have ever collected for Yol was 2. Does it oneshot Draugr Overlods? :B

1. Story
Better. Much better. More dynamic, more dramatic, still have to get through most of it.
in this I partly agree and Disagree with you.
When rating the story of an Elder Scroll games, there's 2 categories: Main Storyline, and Side-quest Storylines.
On Oblivion, the main campaign was quite boring, poor story, even a couple of plot-holes (Only septims can wear the amulet of kings...... then how was it that camoran was wearing it when you fight him?) But the Side-quests were fantastic. The story of the Dark Brotherhood was exelent, as was the Thieves Guild. The mages and fighter guilds quests weren't impressive, but weren't boring either.
Now we get skyrim.
Main Campaign of Skyrim: Nothing short of pure awesome. Easily the best main storyline of a fantasy RPG I've played in a long long time.
Companions (Fighter's guild): Boring with a capital B =/ not only is it INCREDIBLY SHORT (6 missions) but its also quite dump on its plot, it has no real enemy to fight, other than a bunch of faceless leaderless fanatic mooks, I was expecting more from this storyline, but it dissapointed me entirely.
College of Winterhold (Mages guild) boring, though not as bad as the companions. The plot is once more very VERY dumb, with an uninteresting villain, little to ZERO interaction with your fellow mages, and you getting named Archmage for no aparent reason at all.
Thieves Guild: Much better, easily the best side-story of the whole game.
Dark Brotherhood: Much better, easily second-best story of the whole game.
Civil War: Boring, both sides while theoretically different, are on practice identical as far as quests go, the mechanic of assaulting forts is kinda fun, but gets old fast, quite honestly, it was much more fun to watch them argue with each other during the main campaign than the resolution of this thing.
So, bottom line: Oblivion had a boring main quest, but very VERY nice side-quests. Skyrim is the oposite, with one of the best main quests, but other than the thieves-guild, and dark brotherhood, the other mini-campaigns are very boring.
I hate new lockpicking.
agreed, its the same one they use on Fallout, and I hate it just as much there too.
Leveling system is now balanced and much more easy to control.
I wouldn't say that if I was you, leveling magical skills is BY FAR much faster, and easier than leveling physical skills. To the point of being nearly unfair.
Skills still have to try all of them, but crafting reminds me of WoW, but mostly this system is better.
agreed, crafting has seen a much more needed improvement. Too bad they took away the ability to craft your own spells, but hey, we got weapon/armor crafting to compensate, so its all good. If anything, I miss the ability to make my own potions anywhere like I used to on oblivion.........
Shouts are fun. Some seem useless, but sending Stormcloaks flying off the wall with Unrelenting Force is kinda fun.
¬.¬ so you sided with the empire? fascist scum......... (jk)
In general, I am surprised how many things changed to better from Oblivion.
almost everything, melee combat is still very clunky, but they've improved just about everything else.

True. I should have mentioned that.
My only problem is that, in my opinion, Skyrim has 2 main questlines: Dragons and Civil War.
So far I am done only with Civil War, and right now completing the Dragon quests, and even Civil War, while repetitive was much more fun than Oblivion's main quest. I would like more dynamic world though, because it seems no one will even bother to do anything without you..
wrong, only the dragon crisis is the main quest.
The civil war is just a side-story, that doesn't get anywhere near the attention to detail the main one gets. Its entirely optional, and secondary and at no point are you even forced to support one side or the other.
From what I gathered in-game Ulfric killed the king who was barely of age. So you know....
what u've gathered is wrong.
first of all, he didn't "murdered" the king, he challenged the king to combat, and won. That's how nords deal with challenges to the throne, a king that can't defend his crown in combat isn't really fit to lead the nation. As far as nord culture goes.
He challenged the king and the king accepted, and then lost (granted, Ulfric had a pretty big advantage since he was using the Tu'um, but still......, there's no rule that says anything about being forbidden to use magic, or any other means to win)
And second of all,
High King Torygg
was quite an adult by the time the challenge was made.
and third of all, Ulfric had some damn good reasons for challenging the crown, First off, because the empire did jack squat for the provinces (leaving Hammerfall to hang dry during the thalmor war, as well as high-rock and skyrim itself, not to mention that when the argonians invaded morrowind they also did nothing to stop them), then we get to the part where not only the empire refused to aid the provinces, they also surrendered to the enemy, and today pretty much are little more than Thalmor-boot-lickers, and yesmen, and then we get to the best part: The empire strolling down to skyrim, aided by the thalmor, and suppressing nord culture and religion, because the thalmor feel that Talos (The main nordic god) is offensive to them.
do you HONESTLY support a side like that?
The stormcloaks have their own skeletons in their closet (Fanatic nationalism, as well as high bigotry to non-nords being some of the worst) but they are FAR BETTER than both the Thalmor, and their yesmen, the empire.
