I hope it improves the combat system.
On normal, it takes about 20 arrows to kill some guy in ebony/glass; and all the while, they're wailing on you for a lot more damage and healing through everything.
as the NPCs say:
"WHY
WON'T
YOU
DIEEEEE?"

They are making arrows do a lot more damage now, so if you get a sneak attack you will pretty much one shot somone. The trade off is that they are more rare now.

well, bows got a little reworked now.
They hit A LOT HARDER now, but take longer to fire each shot.
so the good news is, bows were upgraded from Derringer mini-mini-pistols, to 50-cal Barret Snipers, the bad news is, they went from semi auto, to bolt-action single-round magazines.
Fair trade really, if you put enough distance, the first shot will kill whoever you aim at, and you will have time for at least 2 more shots before the enemy is in melee range.
also bows can now be used as melee weapons if the enemy is too close, though natturally, they will deal less damage than by shooting.
a sneak-attack shot can 100% guaranteed kill everything in a single arrow.

morrowind
(7 - 5) * 2 = 4
Oblivion
(1 - 7) * 5 = -30
*nitpick*
I would also like to add that they enemies only get stronger faster than you if you don't level up correctly. Oblivion never really explained the proper way to level up, so most people are extremely inefficient at it and their characters are only half as powerful as they should be.

yhea oblivion was a game bugged as hell......
Heck, there's 2 points in the main quest where, if you leveled past 30, its IMPOSSIBLE to complete them unless you cheat and/or slide the difficulty setting all the way to the bottom.
And here is why: A big design mistake.........
as we've said before, mobs lvl when you do (Unlike you however, they upgrade their gear faster than you) but Friendly NPCs have a fixed level that DOES NOT increases AT ALL.
All guards in the game are lvl 25, some are even below that, so during the quests "Defense of Bruma" and "Light the Dragonfires" where you have to protect Martin or its gameover, if you are above lvl 30, its simply impossible unless you cheat.
Mobs basically will chew trough the guards like a hot knife through buttercup, and kill Martin in a heartbeat. Normally you'd help by mowing down the mobs, but when its so crowded that there is 15+ guards, and martin and the mobs, its VERY EASY to hit either of them with your sword/arrows/spells, thus 1shoting them in the process.
in order to save yourself some head-aches and exessive profanity spewing, just beat the damn campaign completely on lvl 1 and be done with it.
I still maintain that despite its flaws (and god knows it has MANY) oblivion is one of the most enjoyable games ever created, and thanks to a HUGE modding comunity, just about every flaw of the game can be fixed.
The butt-faces can be fixed with a nice addon, so can the level-scaling, the leveling system, the broken economy, the buggy AI, and a huge ect.
In fact Installing the popular OOO (Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul) mod, fixes 60% of all the bugs and problems of the vanilla game.

I spend months on vanilla Oblivion and then even more months on modded Oblivion. It's the game I've spend the most time on besides WoW, so I must admit it's my all-time favorite game together with Ocarina of Time.
I haven't pre-ordered Skyrim but I'll buy it on Friday and probably be dissapointed and go back to WoW as an emo. Too high expectations =(
Btw, I think pretty much every Elder Scrolls fan orgasmed at the Skyrim trailer, especially becaues of the music.

I have it as the ringtone of my cellphone :P every time someone calls me, the epic lines of:
Dovahkiin, Dovahkiin
Naal ok zin los vahriin
Wah dein vokul mahfaeraak ahst vaal
Ahrk fin norok paal graan
Fod nust hon zindro zaan
Dovahkiin, fah hin kogaan mu draal
sound at high volume like a blazing army of badass viking giants storming towards a battle.
BTW those are the official lyrics to the song in the trailer, the translation is:
Dragonborn, Dragonborn
By his honor is sworn
To keep evil forever at bay
And the fiercest foes rout
When they hear triumph's shout
Dragonborn, for your blessing we pray

I love the version with Swedish lyrics to the original song too xD If you search it on youtube you'll find it translated to English in the comments, but ofc it's more fun if you understand Swedish. =P

Like many other peopel who live in Western Mass I had no power for about a week (just got itback 2 days ago)
I honestly think I may have flipped out and gotten a group of other angry nerds and started pillaging had Skyrim come out last week and I was unable to play it.

maybe crasrer but remember, its the elder scrolls we're talking about xD
I've played Daggerfall, morrowind, and oblivion, so I can safely say I'm a big fan of the saga, and being familiar with being without electricity for extended periods of time, I'd be pretty pissed off if it had happened during or after skyrim's launch.
Enough to organize a barbarian pillage&plunder raid? who knows :P

I think that Oblivion gave me a little 'glimpse' into the future. It was one of the first single player 'open world' games I've ever played, with the feeling that much of the environment was interactable. I hope, that by my death, computer AI is more intelligent, clever, smarter, and creative than humanity. I'd like to own a PC that can provide me with a rich and immersive experience. I'd like to see virtual reality rival reality as well. I want to be able to walk through the virtual world, interact with it, etc, on a complete level, or one that rivals and exceeds reality. I want to walk into a tavern in Red Dead Redemption CCCLXXVII, and have the characters walk up to me, and be able to debate about the value of capitalism, or give me their recipe for Alfredo. I want each character to have responsibilities, fears, weaknesses, personality, advancing age, memory, beliefs, logic, etc... When will this happen? Will it hurry up?

One controlled by me, in which I can pause, or reset, or save, or load, or whatever... I get tired of Red Dead Redemption, I can pop in Just Cause 2 and do some parachuting, imagine a game like world of warcraft with that level of technology. It would still be crap, but ya know, immersive crap. Sounds stinky.
