I'm kind of sad Chameleon went away, but it was a little ridiculous to enchant a 7-piece set to give >100% Chameleon...especially since the cost was negligible for a master thief.
I just kept myself completely invisible and walked around Oblivion, and never got hurt... ever... which was kind of lame. I think it is nice to have to work at the game not to die. But, I do notice that it is a little silly to be 5 feet in front of someone, standing in light, and they don't see me.
The other thing is the combat imbalance. I find it is pretty easy to kill a dragon, but nigh impossible to kill a frost troll. I can take the full onslaught of a dragon, but Gary McIdiot that wears rags and lives in the poo sewers can two shot me?
Aye, that bugs me as well. It would have been nice if there was a way to work around the issue, but seeing as the gameplay and story requires you to kill dragons throughout the storyline, it'd be hard to do.

Are you using fire on the trolls? They're a walk in the park for me once I cancel out their regen with fire.

Version 0.2 is now up.
You may now choose a desired effect instead of choosing a base ingredient.

I was thinking that just the other day when I took Shadowmere to High Hrothgar. Up the mountainside.

but does that full set of nocturnal armor also endows you with the dual identity of the gray fox? I dont think it does :P, therefore the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal > Armor of nocturnal. It was fun to be the gray fox on oblivion, be able to head-shot someone, then remove the mask and have no bounty on me
To be honest, I never quite liked the dual identity thing. The point of being a good thief is getting your pockets packed and having 0 bounty. Having a need for the Cowl meant being a bad thief. Spoiler is about armor.
And the armor we speak of fortifies so many things that I would really not hesitate. The 50% frost resist I have been singing about a few times mostly, but also bonuses to thieving abilities and one handed damage.

Hmm. Frost trolls aren't much trouble for me. I remember meeting one on my way to the mage university and I just casually killed him. I also remember I met an Ice Bear after that troll, and that gave me a lot more trouble. The problem in my opinion is that Dragons spend an awful lot of time just looking scary, instead of actually mauling your face. Heck even after landing they first do some sort of a ROAAAAAR and then start hitting you.
The most troublesome monster for me so far is probably that frost spectre or what is she called. I have trouble with casters generally, but casters that move fast as hell and can slow me are the worst. Fireball spammers are pretty scary too. They can literally three-shot me, each and every one of them. And the AoE effect of their Fireballs makes up for my dodging. :-/

Thror, meh, the bonuses of the final armor of the thieves guild pale when compared to the dark brotherhood bonuses of their shrouded armor.
I mean seriously, double backstab bonus (stacks with all the other bonuses of sneak for a grand total of 60x extra damage) 20% more bow damage (Stacks with the archery bonus for a total of 120% extra damage) and 100% muffled sounds when sneaking meaning I can run up in sneak mode to my enemy and stab him or her without them hearing me, even at lower lvls.
too good to pass up.
and the mobs I have the most problem with are necromancers, I really hate them.
Its not that they can spam ice lance on me while backpedaling, as I can counter that with enough potions, its not that they can summon skeletons since yes they are annoying but they are also weak, its not that they hang in packs and love to ambush me, since I can kill them one by one even without backstab, its the fact that they can ress each other without a problem endlessly, and I ALWAYS SEEM TO MISS 1.
its not uncommon to spend up to 3 minutes chasing them and killing them only to find that I left one behind who ressed all the others..... UGH.

The thief armor has muffled sounds too. It's on the shoes. o_O And I still think the doubled backstab damage is completely unnecessary, since I oneshot everything with my daggers already anyway.
And I can make myself invisible for 180 seconds through gained abilities :]
I have only met 1 necromancer so far :O A single chick, she was leading some kind of a subdued imperial with her. Killed them both by backstabbing.
On the other hand, my most favorite monsters are definitely the Falmer. They are blind <3 Free sneak kills.
Btw I will probably side with the Nords in the civil war thing. I kinda don't like how the Imperials want to supress their culture.

Aye, but they have good hearing, so you'll need muffled boots to sneak up on them.

Yep, at first I was gonna side with the empire, seeing as they are actually a benevolent empire, founded by a hero, and for 4 games they have been generally speaking a force of good.
but then, after reading more and more of the lore on skyrim, a lot has changed on the last 200 years, the empire is but a remnant of its former glory, with no septims on the throne, they have gave way to corruption and inefficiency, when the Thalmor Dominion attacked, the empire pretty much became their b1tches, and now seek to supress the worship of talos across all tamriel.
The Thalmor Dominion are FRIKKING NAZlS in everything but name. Think about it, they believe their race to be the one superior race in all of the world, they reject the worship of talos because for them, the mere concept of a human ascending to godhood is blasphemy, only elves should be gods after all, they subjugated and enslaved the kahjits and wood elves, they viciously attacked and tried to purge hammerfell, on their hour of greatest need, the empire left their provinces to fend for themselves, when they saw that no victory could be achieved against the dominion they chose to submit and obey them to the letter.
so, in resume we have: Eugenics, fascist government, perceived racial superiority, dissident stomping, secret police, contempt for non-aggression pacts... The Thalmor Dominion, are pretty much nazi elves. Even their robes have a certain SS/gestapo vibe to them.
Then we get to the part that out of all 10 kingdoms of tamriel, only 3 still belong to the empire (Summerset Island separated and became the Dominion, then they took by force Valenwood, and the Khajit kingdom, Morrowind was destroyed in about 70%, the other 30% was taken by force by black marsh which also separated from the empire, Hammerfell is still pretty pissed off that the empire refused to help them when the dominion attacked them and while they repelled the attack, they have now also separated, and High Rock is also fumbling with the idea of separation.)
this leaves with only Cyrodiil, Skyrim, and High Rock as part of a crumbling empire who is nothing more than the yesmen of a fascist aggressive racist group of cruel arrogant elves who think they have the right to kill anyone who rises higher than them.
Skyrim is better out of that crumbling empire
which is why I felt no remorse or regret when I ASSASSINATED THE EMPEROR on the last Dark Brotherhood quest

no it is not. Read the rest to find out why.
Seriously, people trow the nazi term so frequently that most dont even know its true meaning.
A nazi is by definition, someone who is a supremacist, fascist, and believes their own race and culture to be superior to all others, and then enforce this superiority by supressing other cultures under their military forces. This is what the Dominion is doing, and even their uniforms resemble the ones used by the Gestapo.
Edit: heck did you even read this line I said above? "so, in resume we have: Eugenics, fascist government, perceived racial superiority, dissident stomping, secret police, contempt for non-aggression pacts..." notice how all of those are actual part of the Dominion. Now, dont you notice a certain similarity to a certain real-life government that caused so many deaths a few decades ago?

Technically, the mention of the word Nazi does in fact qualify as a Godwin, even if it is appropriate to the discussion. This could be a thread about World War 2, and it would still count. I still think it's an appropriate analogy, though.

Godwin's law is an act of desperation on a debate, where one side compares the other with hitler/nazis in order to demonize them, or score some points, even if the other side has NOTHING to do with hitler/nazis.
In my case, the comparison between the Dominion and the Nazis is more than justified considering their uncanny resemblance in everything but name.

What happens if we're actually talking about Nazis?
Then you've already invoked Godwin's Law, and the chances are that
your thread isn't going to last all that much longer as a sane discussion.
Them's the breaks.

but anyhow, getting back to the topic at hand, yes, on the Empire vs Stormcloak issue, from Elder Scrolls 2 to 4 I supported the empire, but the current empire has almost nothing to do with the original, and by accepting all the conditions imposed by the Thalmor they are just selling themselves out to avoid anihilation.
On the quest "Diplomatic Inmunity" a Thalmor Justiciari (READ: Gestapo police in charge of finding Talos temples, priests, and worshipers, and BURNING THEM ALIVE) said that the current peace between the Empire and the Dominion is not due to 2 nations of equal strength trying to avoid an endless battle, but more of a calm before the storm, and that the storm will be dire indeed.
